          Alfie is the best!
Alfie is truly a delight, both as a tour guide and as a person. He was entertaining, educational, and very accommodating. We spent 11 hours together, and it went a by in a breeze! He showed us many lovely places, including beautiful views, exclusive animal sightings, and delicious food. We really can’t recommend Alfie enough!

          Great day’s Birding!
I came across Alfie’s link on a Cape Bird Club Facebook page and tried his Bird ID email and then did his Udemy Advanced Bird Identification Beginners course. I have just started bird watching in the last month and was struggling to see & ID birds. He joined a local birdwatching outing and I could see he knew his stuff but there were too many people to really learn all I need, esp. with COVID-related distancing requirements. So I arranged a private tour to Kirstenbosch. It was extremely good value. I personally saw about 25 birds, most I had never seen before. If Alfie has not been there I would have missed most of them! I also know he saw even more birds than I did! He is very knowledgeable and was also very patient with my beginner skills in both spotting and photography. We spent over 4 hours and he would have been happy to spend longer. What a wonderful day out in such a spectacular setting. Highly recommended for both beginners (even non-Birding tourists looking for something different) & experts (gave helpful advice to some other experts we met along the way).

          Cape Peninsula Tour
Alfie came recommended to us and we are so glad that we took up that recommendation! Myself and my boyfriend wanted to explore the cape peninsula during our time in Cape Town and Alfie showed us as many highlights as he could in one day. We can highly recommend the shipwreck walk - there was no better way to spend a Sunday morning than on a practically deserted beach with amazing white sands and impossibly blue sea. As soon as Alfie knew we were both ecologists,he took time to show us different birds and plants that we saw along the way - and put up with our excitement at even some of the more mundane birds! Alfie was also hugely flexible with timings to fit in with our needs and making sure we ticked everything off that we wanted to do. The snacks and drinks provided were an unexpected, pleasent bonus as well. We cannot recommend Alfie enough - particularly if you are interested in the spectacular nature that the Cape Peninsula has to offer. Thank you again! Ella and Rich

Alfie is a Wonderful, Flexible Guide
We decided last minute that we wanted to use a day of our time in Cape Town for some structured touring and to see more. We were referred to Alfie who came recommended, and he was available even though it was 2 days out. We mentioned some of the sights we would want to see so that he had some time to think in advance. We met in our hotel lobby for a quick conversation and we were off. We went on a glorious drive to check out the vistas along Chapman’s Peak with the goal of making it to see the penguins, which we did! We got to stretch our legs, learn a little from Alfie, and take many photos. Our next stop was in a fishing village and we got to see some seals. Alfie then got us to a vineyard just in the nick of time to see the running of the ducks. After a wine tasting, we went to a larger vineyard for lunch and a walk. We covered a lot of ground in not a long day! He even offered to drop us at the Table Mountain Cable Car since we had yet to accomplish it but we had an early dinner reservation to make. The best part about our tour with Alfie was that he was friendly, knowledgeable, and open to share about his own experience as well as the history of Cape Town and South Africa. We felt comfortable asking him questions, learned a lot, but at no point were overwhelmed or bored by the information he was sharing! We would highly recommend that anyone who is looking to get a thoughtful and flexible private tour of the Cape Town area to connect with Alfie!

Alfie Curling is incredibly knowledgable about all things South Africa. His background of growing up in Kruger and his current location in Capetown add to his vast knowledge of S.A. Birds, mammals, and culture.
I spent the last 11 days on tour with Alfie as our guide and it was completely enjoyable. He is one of the friendliest people I know, and also keeps it professional at the same time.
I highly recommend all things Alfie Curling!

My wife and I engaged Alfie Curling (Alfie’s Adventures) for several days of travel support while we were in Cape Town, South Africa in early September 2019. We wanted a combination of guiding for out of town destinations, in addition to car and driver help for transfers between our lodging and points of interest within the greater Cape Town area (e.g., airport, Kirstenbosch Gardens, V&A Waterfront). Alfie’s services were a perfect fit for us. He possesses good knowledge of Cape Town and regional attractions, and his casual but professional style suited our needs very well. Spending as much time as we did with any guide can be challenging if personalities are not well matched, and we felt very much at ease with Alfie’s ability to engage as needed to provide good service, but without over-reaching or becoming obtrusive to our agenda.

Highlights from Alfie’s involvement with us include the following items.
        - Punctual, always on-time for agreed pick-up schedule; very good at monitoring a daily schedule to ensure that all items on the day’s intinerary were covered
        - Flexible, able to adapt to and accommodate changeable schedule details and shifting priorities
        - Expert birder - this is a personal passion of Alfie’s, and he has positively identified many species in South Africa alone - so he brings this wealth of knowledge to any outing
        - With a background as safari guide in the Kruger area, Alfie has a very high level of knowledge regarding South African flora and fauna in general (we learned much about the fynbos plant communities on our visit), and he's expert at spotting and identifying species endemic to the South African cape
        - Good at explaining South Africa-specific cultural details: settlement history and economic development, post-Apartheid politics, current events affecting regional economy (influx of workers from adjacent countries, local reactions)
        - As a client, your agenda is his agenda: very good at tailoring discussions and excursions toward those topics that we specifically identified as areas of personal interest

In addition to in-city transfers, the bulk of our time with Alfie was associated with the following destinations, where his guide services and knowledge of flora/fauna were extremely valuable.
        - Tour of Table Mountain (Cape Town regional overview, natural history of the area, fynbos)
        - Tour of West Coast National Park (wild flowers, fynbos, wild life viewing)
        - Tour of Hermanus area (Harold Porter National Botanical Garden, Betty’s Bay penguins, wine tasting, whale viewing)
        - Tour of Cape Peninsula (Muizenberg/Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town/Boulders, Cape Point)

Alfie, thanks much for your assistance and insights during our visit to the Cape Town area, your involvement was instrumental to our enjoyment of several key destinations on our trip!

I have been out with Alfie a number of times. I am also a tour operator and have booked Alfie to guide many of my guests around Cape Town and the Western Cape. The feedback from every one of them has been nothing but exceptional. His many years of guiding experience have given him the skills to be able to read his guests well and predict their needs. His friendly and honest personality makes him easy to deal without compromising on professionalism.

I think the biggest testament is from the number of guests who have initially booked a simple birding afternoon or hike up Table Mountain, and after some time with him have immediately secured his services for the rest of their time in Cape Town.

To top it off, he is ultimately knowledgable on the birds and other animal and plant life in the area. You can't go wrong booking him and I can 100% endorse him. Your expectations will be exceeded.

I was very lucky to have found Alfie. He is extremely passionate about birds and his enthusiasm and deep knowledge in them shines through during our tour to the Rooi-Els and the vicinity. I saw 40 lifers including the near threatened Cape Rockjumper and Ground Woodpecker! It was a very good trip and I wish I had more days to go birding.

If you’re a birder or a bird photographer, I highly recommend Alfie to be your guide. You will not be disappointed.

Alfie was great. He was on time and went above and beyond what I expected. He knows the area and we got additional info about the Cape as we were driving between bird locations. I highly recommend that you make use of his services.
