A Great Adventure
Darren, the owner drove me around on this safari. Darren is very knowledgeable about the wildlife. While driving with the windows down, Darren will detect their scent before you will, but once he mentions it, you will notice the scent yourself. By the scent, Darren will know what wildlife is in the area. I got to see four of the big five animals, plus many others. The only one I missed but was the leopard, but of course, nothing can every be guaranteed with wildlife in the wild unlike a zoo where it is always guaranteed. Craig who owns the campsite is very friendly and makes a good dinner and breakfast. We had lunch twice in the center of the park. The first day we watched the lionesses catch a warthog from our table overlooking the watering hole. The second day I tried the ostrich burger and found it was very good. I come to South Africa for an annual conference and will Darren's South Africa Adventures for very trip and will be recommending South Africa Adventures to other conference goers.

Eco safari tour
The safari in the open vehicle was great and we saw loads of animals. Unfortunately in the afternoon we had an enclosed vehicle which didn’t have air conditioning or windows that opened in the back so at 35 degrees made for a very up pleasant trip and we were unable to take any pictures.

4 day Drakensberg - Mafadi Summit
I would like to write and register my gratitude and appreciation for the excellent role that South African Adventures played during our recent 4 day Mafadi Drakensberg trek. All members of our group where highly impressed with the professionalism, patience, keenness to assist and friendliness displayed by your adventure guides, namely Thys Taljaard and Patrick Richardson. They provided valuable expertise, knowledge of the local area and motivation throughout our adventure experience, aiding in a successful summit of the highest peak in South Africa - Mafadi. Transportation provided to and from JHB was comfortable and safe, making the excursion more enjoyable. We are eager to book another adventure with your company soon and have no hesitation in motivating your business and recommending you to all our friends and colleagues. Once again thank you for the excellent service! Sincerely yours Safwat Dien Cape Town South Africa

3 Day Slackpacking and hike in the Drakensberg by South African Adventures
If you are looking to explore the Drakensberg by hiking with only a day pack then this awesome hike is a must. The guides of South African Adventures are so extremely knowledgeable and one gain so much knowledge for future hikes. The mountain scenery was amazing and the swim at the Gorge mountain pool was incredible. The food was great and evenings were spent around a camp fire chilling out. We were a small group which made it even better. A definite must for all that are new to hiking. We loved it and is very excited to use South African Adventures again for our next excision.

A wonderful experience
The one day safari was unbelievable. Close-up's with giraffes, zebra, wildebeests, warthogs, a HERD of elephants, kudu, springbok, and more. Cheetah and Rhino were visible but from a distance. Final encounter of the day was with a pair of lions from about 100 yards. The vehicle was in excellent condition, and our guide, Herman?, was wonderful. The only less positive aspect was the ride from the hotel to the park. First, it was more like 2.5 hours than the 2 indicated. The van was a little ragged and crowded. The driver was driving pretty quickly on very bumpy roads. Not for the faint of heart. But the ride was worth the final product. A once in a lifetime experience.

Lion walk!
What a fun day!! We were so disappointed when we could t get into Ukatula for lions but we stumbled across South Africa adventures and couldn’t have been happier. We had a lion walk at Colin’s and the place was great!! The food was delicious and there was a lot of lion interaction. Karissa was very knowledgable and kind. Darren picked us up and served as our guide- he was a pleasure for the day!! Funny and enjoyable. If you want a great day with lions book this!!!

Drakensberg Overnight - Amazing Adventure
My wife and I did the Drakensberg Amphitheater overnight backpacking trip in late August. It was truly an adventure and we had an awesome time. Mind you this trip may not be for everyone. We were camping in high winds below freezing temps. And the hike itself can be strenuous (especially if coming from sea level as we were). But our guides, Thys and Patrick, were super helpful and considerate. Thys provided excellent support and encouragement along with expert knowledge. My wife had been dealing with some fear of heights and we’d even thought of canceling our trip the night before. But she was able to go up and down the chain ladders, thanks in part to the support! It was also nice having Patrick along. He demonstrated a level of maturity not common in many young men his age. We appreciated his kindness and consideration, he was truly helpful but also brought some fun to the trip. We would definitely do a trip like this again with these guys. Though I’d probably prefer warmer weather next time! Only advice for others: if you’ve never backpacked or done something like this before, make sure you are properly prepared. They provide a lot of info on their blogs and we knew what to expect. They didn’t ask us much before we left to double-check our preparedness... so if we hadn’t been it would have been miserable. We’ll never forget our experience. Special thanks to Thys and Patrick for all you did!

Walk with Lions
We stumbled upon this excursion when we could not get a booking at Ukutula. We were determined to interact with baby cubs. Colin’s exceeded our expectations!!!!! Our friends who went to the other lodge, were not able to hold the baby cubs and did not have the non-commercialized environment like we did. I would definitely recommend this over the “typical” tourist attraction-like places. Darren was hilarious. The food was awesome! And the staff was extremely friendly. A MUST!!!!!!

Cathedral Peak Summit
Thanks to Darren and his team for such and incredible experience. Thys, Dean and Patrick were a great help throughout the trip. Their experience made me feel safe even during the scarier parts of the summit. The food was good and the people were even better. I can't wait for my next hike with them in the near future!

Cathedral peak hike
We had the pleasure of being guided by Darren and his incredible team to the cathedral peak summit. Unfortunately Darren was ill on the Saturday, but his incredible team, Patrick, Dean and Thys made sure we were safe all the way to the summit. Patrick was a great help on the way down. We will definitely join SA Adventures on future trips, and will recommend them to all.

Amazing Adventure!
We absolutely loved our two day trip with Shade to Pilanesburg! While every day and trip can be different, he catered to what our group was interested in doing and seeing. We were thrilled by the animals we saw (including a lion pride on a successful hunt and all of the Big Five) as well as the beauty of the park’s landscape and flora. Shade was knowledgeable, interesting and funny. We had a lovely night just outside the park at Base Camp where we enjoyed a delicious fire cooked homemade meal as well as breakfast. Sitting by a campfire with a glass of South African wine enjoying the beautiful evening sky was the perfect ending to our first day. The tents were comfortable and clean. Having a second day (especially the early morning ride) in the park is a must if you want to see so much more than a one day can get you. Shade picked us up in Johannesburg at our hotel and dropped us as requested at the airport with plenty of time to check in for our flight. We can’t recommend this trip enough and would definitely book this trip with Shade again!
