Enjoy wine tasting, cheese tasting and cellar tours all while gaining knowledge about some of the most unique wines in the world Enjoy a unique ride on the vintage-style Franschhoek Tram, passing through breath-taking views and vineyards - one of the best ways to explore the true beauty of Franschhoek Visit Paarl and its vibrant Afrikaans culture, and the Drakenstein prison, where Nelson Mandela last stayed before being released Winelands Full Day Visit Attention wine lovers! Tantalise your taste buds and brush up on your wine knowledge on our Full Day Winelands Tour. Enjoy three wine tastings at award-winning wine farms, accompanied by a cheese assortment and cellar tour, an exciting ride on the Franschhoek tram, and a visit to the Drankenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela spent the last part of his captivity. Stellenbosch We start the morning off at the Stellenbosch winelands, only 20 minutes out of Cape Town, which offers a majestic scenery that is entirely different to the Cape Peninsula. You will discover different grape varieties that grow in the area such as Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, and the uniquely South African Pinotage. You will also learn about the Méthode Cap Classique developed in the region, that emulates and rivals the very best French champagnes. Stellenbosch is a small but very lively town with a famous university and numerous activities such as wine cellar tours and tastings, museums, galleries and strawberry picking. You will have the opportunity to purchase wines to bring back home to enjoy the region's delightful vintages after your visit. (1h45) Franschhoek We then head to Franschhoek - a wine-lover's dream destination - also known as "the French corner", an old Huguenot village. With its numerous streets and estates with French names, the town will make you feel completely bewildered, feeling like you were in France in another era. You will be completely enchanted by the town's charm and its peaceful environment. You will get the chance to taste the region's delicacies, cheeses and its best wines. Since the 1st of October, we are very proud to take you on an unique ride on the Franschhoek Tram, journeying through beautiful vineyards, breath-taking scenery and award-winning wine farms. Bonus - our guides are fluent in English and French!
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- John C0 contributionsManage your expectationsThis is a short cut way to see the big 5 . Good lunch included and some wine. However, it’s not a great experience. The National Parks are so much better. 10,000 hectares is very small for game and the lions, a pride of 4, are segregated by electric fences ( in case they eat the other game!!!) The dirt roads are in a terrible condition and the ride was incredibly uncomfortable. So its not a don’t go but manage your expectations.Written February 1, 2024
- Dreamer5607120 contributionsHORRIBLE FIVE PALM SOUTH RESIDENCE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!The FIVE PALM RESIDENCE SOUTH was absolutely the WORST, WORST experience . No wash or hand towels, rusty bathroom trash cans, dirty and stained indoor and outdoor furniture. Hair dryer could NOT be plugged into bathroom outlets, No extra toilet paper in drawers in bathrooms. Had to ask repeatedly and was left with a roll of Paper towel instead. Customer service is HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE and 100% unacceptable. DO NOT RESERVE or BOOK with this management company. They lack basic customer service.Written November 27, 2023
- 750solangeg0 contributionsWORST EXPERIENCEPlease stay AWAY from this company. I booked this tour via Expedia on May/26. I tried contacting them many times by email, whatsapp and calling and no available. The day before my tour i received a message at 2AM for my tour to start at 9AM. The guide arrived at 9:45AM, he was nice but had NO knowledge of anything about the tour. the tickets were included when i booked, but when we got to the table mountain and botanic garden we HAD TO PAY again for the tickets. then the robben island tour was cancelled since 2 days before which is understandable but the owner/manager had NO idea about the cancelation?? what kind of tour operator is this?? DO NOT use this company.Written June 13, 2023
- steingadnerin0 contributionsEnjoyable trip to see the Big 5The Matadi Team was great helping with an alternative to the tour I had initially booked, which was to another game reserve. The day trip to Aquila was very enjoyable, and we saw 4 of the Big 5 plus giraffs, ostriches, and many others. Our driver was also very accommodating by taking my luggage with us to drop me off at a different hotel upon returning to Cape Town in the evening.Written February 9, 2023
- 814karen1680 contributionsFantastic experienceFrom pick up to drop off our 2 night stay at Aquilla was fantastic. We stayed in Rm 9 which we'd highly recommend waking up to see elephants, baboons, rhino's, ostriches and wilder beasts from your balcony was amazing. The rangers were fun and knowledgeable. The food was buffet style and we enjoyed what was on offer and for each of the 2 nights a different menu. The spa was lovely and relaxing as we're the massages and it isn't often you're visited by a peacock when your chilling in the pool. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend.Written February 1, 2023
- Curlz850 contributionsGorgeous timeAmazing time. Definitely do quad biking. If going in the winter period, bring trousers and a jacket. Loved the stop off in the middle of the safari to have wine. Bring a rucksack and don't take expensive valuables on safari as you might not be able to get them.Written October 21, 2022
- pjs20050 contributionsOUR DRIVER WAS NO GUIDEFrancis was a charming young man who was a wonderful driver but was greatly lacking as a guide. He didn't know even the most basic information about Cape Town or the sights he drove us to. There were 8 of us, each paying $140 ($1120). For that kind of money I feel Viator should insure that a knowledgeable guide is provided.Written October 16, 2019
