Amatungula planned a route that took us from sophistication to pristine nature. He went the extra mile to show us the expansive and intimate views of the breathtaking Namaqualand in bloom. Our accommodation varied from spacious and lovely guesthouses to farm stays in the middle of vineyards and the expanse of the vast Karoo. He is a guide who covers history, legends, flora, fauna and other interesting topics with flair. He managed our group of varied and strong characters with firm empathy and understanding, while still taking the lead in all circumstances

We Enjoyed the four days. Simon was really accomodating and was flexible to our schedule. We were lucky enough to see the big5 in the first two days and we did a few extra game drives in the park were we saw plenty of other animals. We stayed in different lodges throughout the park and the food is great, plenty of options. The panorama route was also very nice to experience. Would recommend this tour!

We booked a custom transfer and mini-tour with Jakes & Amatungulu Tours in August 2023. We were picked up from the Johannesburg airport by one of Jakes' colleagues and driven to the town of Sabi. Delightful conversation and a pleasant drive, after our long overseas flight! Jakes met up with us at our bed & breakfast, and we finalized our plans for the next day. Jakes drove us through the Panorama Route, making stops as we requested and providing local history and stories. He then dropped us off, as planned, at our safari destination in the Hoedspruit area. Jakes was very responsive throughout the booking and planning process, and we would definitely recommend Amatungulu Tours!

We enjoyed spending a day with Jakes in Johannesburg. He was kind and patient as we went shopping and stopped at a few places. I would highly recommend him if you are just in town for a day besides his longer trips.

Jakes was an excellent tour guide! He made the experience better than expected. He provided tons of information about South Africa and Kruger / wildlife. Tour was great! Opted for the extra sunrise game drives, very affordable, and had ~20 hours of wildlife viewing. Highly recommend the sunrise tours for the views alone. The sunset tour was also great.

I am so glade that we spend our 4 days with Jakes! he is an amazing storyteller, a careful driver, helped throughout our entire trip and told us a lot of facts about the country. If you doubt whether it’s worth going on a trip with him, don’t hesitate!

From Kruger Park to Capetown, over a period of 13 days, Jakes treated us to the best that South Africa has to offer, in a most professional and informed, but casual, comfortable, and flexible manner. I just can’t say enough great things about Jakes. He took fantastic care of us and he made sure our experiences throughout South Africa were top notch. He’s very flexible. He would often say “ it’s your decision it’s your holiday “. He is very knowledgeable about the history of SA, the culture, the people, the animals, the agriculture. And he has a great sense of humour. It was hard to say good bye at the end of our almost 2 week tour with him.

My wife and I travelled with 2 other couples. Our guide, Jakes, was always on top of things. When anything came up (e.g. a museum was closed when we wanted to visit) he always offered an alternative. In addition, he built flexibility into the schedule to allow us to take advantage of the weather (e.g. going to the beach on the day with the nicest weather, and a surprise wine experience). We travelled from Kruger to Cape Town and saw a lot of South Africa. Accommodations ranged from amazing to eclectic - we loved them all. We can't say enough good things about this tour. We travel about 6 months of the year, and this was the best tour that we have experienced.

Our guide Jake's was extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful and had a great itinerary that covered everything that we wanted to experience. He accommodated our group of 6 with ease and booked excellent accommodations, many beyond our expectations.

We flew in from Canada and spent a wonderful few days touring the Kruger Park with Jakes who was a very friendly, knowledgeable tour guide. We drove through the park and almost saw all of the Big 5 including many different animals along the way. Jakes was helpful, personable and thorough. We enjoyed our time with our family and went on a morning and night drive where we saw many more animals and had a magical Bush Braai which was the hilight of our trip. It was an amazing 3 days going from Sandton City to Pilanesberg & Sun City. The views were amazing and driving around the reserve was a once -in -a -lifetime experience. Our guide Jakes was very experienced, and he knew where to look for the animals. His eyes was also very sharp...he can spot animals from a mile away. Overall was a very interesting tour and we were well taken care of.

We had an amazing time , i had my 9 year old boy with me. He enjoyed it so much would 100 per cent go back.
