Lesedi – The Place of Light - is a multi-cultural African village, an hour’s drive from Pretoria and Johannesburg. Guests are invited to the Ndebele Village where an additional welcome by all the people of Lesedi, takes place. The cultural programme begins with a multi-visual presentation on the history and origins of today’s rainbow nation. This is followed by a guided tour of the four ethnic homesteads – Zulu, Basotho, Xhosa and Pedi. As the sun sets over the African bush, guests are escorted to the boma for traditional singing and dancing (you are voluntarily requested to participate in this) depicting stories that date back to the days of their ancestors. The guests are then treated to a Pan African Buffet in the Nyama Choma Restaurant with delicacies from North, East and Southern Africa.

Thank you Ulysses Tours and Transfers! Respectful Tours Honoring Sacrifices made for All!
I was visiting South Africa for the first time. I am very pleased that I did. The experience was moving and meaningful to me. I spent three days on organized tours by Ulysses Tour and Transfer Company. My two tour guides were Aaron and Patrick. They were amazing! I learned so much with them as my guides. I would do the same tours and other new tours with them as my guides. I cannot go wrong with the two of them leading the way. The first tour I took was the half day Pretoria City Tour. It was my introduction to the history of South Africa. I learned about Paul Kruger his role in South Africa's history. The second tours I took were two half day tours. In the morning I toured Freedom Park. The tour guide, "Gift" was his name was very knowledgeable and respectful of the purpose of Freedom Park. The experience helped me to understand the sacrifice and commitment that those who gave their lives for those who came after them. Aaron and Patrick were the Ulysses tour guides whose understanding and sharing of the history and significance of Freedom Park was exceptional! I believe there were no better guides to lead and share with me the experience that was had by me than Aaron and Patrick. In the afternoon I took a tour of the Lesedi Cultural Village. It felt like being with family! Although I was on a solo tour during the winter season (It was very cold), anytime that a tour is offered it is very worth taking this tour. The dinner meal delicious, the drummer ( I drummed too!) was engaging and the dancers were incredible! I would love to see them again if they ever the states to performed shows! The final tour I took was the Best of Johannesburg Full Day Tour. I went to Soweto, Constitution Hill, The Apartheid Museum Mandela House on Vilakazi Street. Everything was wonderful! Again, Aaron and Patrick were the best guides ever! They make you want to return and experience then tours again! I would definitely take other tours led by both Aaron and Patrick. Thank you to them and Martie, of Ulysses who arranged all of the tours for me. I'm happy I had the opportunity to experience all that I did on those wonderful tours!

          Soweto and Apartheid Museum Tour
I booked a tour last minute through my hotel. It turned out really well. Khutso was our guide ( I did a group tour) and he was great. Very funny and knowledgeable.

          Great Service
We used Ulysses to transfer us (a party of 5 ) from Johannesburg Airport to Nyati game lodge 441km away , and a week later to collect us and take us to Sun City 567km away. Jameson our driver was a suburb guy , friendly, helpful and punctual . The mini bus was clean, tidy and air conditioned. I would certainly recommend this company and if we are back in Johannesburg we would definitely use them again.

          Thought-provoking tour
My wife and I and two of our friends did a tour of Soweto, including Soccer City, Hector Pieterson monument and Nelson Mandela House, with Lucky on 20 November. Lucky was an excellent guide. He knew his subject, was very happy to answer all of our questions, and was thoroughly good-humoured. A very thought-provoking tour, enhanced by Lucky. He was just what was required on the last day of our three-week visit to South Africa.

          Elephants and Monkeys, oh my!
Elephant and monkey sanctuaries at the same place, half day tour. The elephant sanctuary with rescued elephants was an exceptional, almost spiritual experience. I know the animals are trained to act in a certian way using food, but really, it is awe inspiring to stand next to these tremendous beasts and to pat its side. The monkey sanctuary is on the same property. They too are rescues. Prepare yourself for some live action with them. I won't be a spoiler, but try to remain calm! Overall super fun. There is a hike with 2 suspension bridges to walk across following the monkey interaction which some people found a bit scary especially due to the height and the swinging of the bridge. Just be aware that there is no turning back once you decide to cross the bridge. Those who didn't want to cross remained in a lower part of the area and met us after the hike. Those who do ziplines or are not afraid of heights will enjpy it. A three year old enjoyed walking along with her parents. Bo was our guide. He works directly with Ulysses Tours. He was very good at making adjustments in the schedule as needed. Very calm and knowledgeable and open to answering any questions about life in So. Africa. You should know that there are power outages each day, but the hotels all have generators to keep the TV and lights going. However, this electricity problem has a huge impact on the country as a whole. The second half of the day, we were going to go on the cable car, but when we arrived it was closed for maintenance so couldn't go on it. Instead, we went to the Voortrekker Museum. Not a whole lot to see except the frieze inside the oversized building which sticks up like an eyesore on a hill. I had mixed feelings seeing the monument to the people who eventually implemented the Apartheid system.

Where did we all come from?
This was a half day tour following the Lion and Rhino Reserve, The Cradle of Hunmankind where human life began. Unfortunately, the caves had been flooded so we couldn't go to them. The local guide at this site, Maropeng, was very, very knowledgeable. If you like anthropology this is for you. The guide told us about a Homo narledi pre Homo sapien that lived 300,000 years ago and purposely buried its dead implying a higher level of brain function than believed they were capable of. Wouldn't you know it, but a few days later there was a big article in the news about these same findings. We ate at the Carnivore restaurant which is a churrascaria style restaurant serving wild game. Go hungry, try things you'll never eat at home! We might have been packing a little too much in for one day since we needed to wait until 1 pm for the Lion feeding. That delayed things so our lunch to Carnivore was switched to dinner also because of driving logistics. We had to wait about an hour until dinner as the guide could only work so many hours and the tour company sent another driver to bring us home.

          Lions and Rhinos Up Close
Our guide, Stephen, was an independent guide, meaning he didn't work directly for Ulysses. Very knowledgeable, young guy, open to answering our questions about life in So Africa. The reserve was amazing!! The animals were so close to the car - zebra, ostrich, vultures, rhinos with babies, wild dogs, cheetah and 2 kinds of lions! We waited for feeding time - yikes - not to be missed if you want to have a feeling of being on the Discovery channel. We didn't have time to go on a safari, so this was a very satisfying substitution. The picture on this website for the tour is of a tiger which is not in the park.

          Soweto and Apartheid Museum Tour
Super all day tour including Soweto. At first I didn't want to go to both places, but decided to do both and I'm glad I did. Soweto is lively and historical, more like living history. The Apartheid museum is truly an emotional experience and very well done. There was a special exhibit about Archbishop Tutu and especially his work on the Truth and Reconciliation program. This was our second day with the guide, Bo. Really knowlegedable guide and open to answering any questions about his life and life in So Africa. I recommend confirming the pick up times with the tour company the day before or once you are in country because the pick-up times differed from their brochure. One day we waited for them to come to the hotel and another day we weren't ready and had to rush breakfast because the times were different.

          An incredible guide (very recommended)
We made the round trip from Johannesburg until Kruger National Park with George James. George was very kind with us, he showed us a lot of incredible places, and knew the story of each one of them. During the way back, we went through the Panorama Tour and he managed to show us incredible spots. He was very enthusiastic and knows a lot not only about the story of the places, but all the animals you can find in South Africa national parks. I can say that we go home with very good memories of all the wonderful places he made us visit. Also add that he picked us up super punctually and that it is appreciated that the car was so clean.

          George James
My guide, George James, should not take people on the Johannesburg and Soweto tour. He had nothing good to say about the city! He drove us through some areas where people are truly struggling and told us we can pay a guide to walk us through the impoverished area as if the people had their poverty on display. When asked, he stated there is NOTHING about Johannesburg he likes. He is not very knowledgeable about the area. I will not address the conversation where he defends the fact that a previous client called him racist. Some things need not be said! In fairness to him, he was placed on the wrong tour and the Apartheid Museum, which was supposed to be part of our tour, was closed. I explained to him, every city has poor communities and affluent areas. The experience left me with a very negative feeling toward George James and I would highly suggest that the management at Ulysses Tours, NEVER use him on a tour of Johannesburg.

          Nature & Wild life Tour
Was a very relaxing and informative tour, with the guide in the vehicle. He helped point out the animals as well as give a wider description of the nature of Southern Africa and Africa as a whole.
