About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- tasharanurse0 contributions10/10 highly recommendI had an unforgettable experience on this tour! Even though I was the only participant due to a last-minute cancellation, it turned into a private tour, and it couldn't have been better. I was running late, but the company was incredibly accommodating, which I greatly appreciated. My guide, Joe, was exceptional—his deep knowledge of the history and culture of the areas we visited made every moment fascinating. He also shared insights from his life in South Africa, adding a personal touch that I loved. Exploring different neighborhoods, admiring the local art, and learning about the origins of each area was truly enriching. The food stops were fantastic—every meal was delicious, with generous portions that will definitely satisfy your appetite. Just be sure to start the tour on an empty stomach! My only wish was for a dessert stop to complete the experience. Overall, I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to dive deep into the local culture and history. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss!Written September 3, 2024
- Keith C0 contributionsAmazing experience!Amazing experience, our Guide Malone took us to all the hot spots in Joburg, he was amazing and my brother and I felt safe the entire time. I could not recommend this tour enough if you want to experience night life in Joburg. If you can request Malone, please do amazing guy. Will absolutely do this tour again next time I'm in townWritten August 25, 2024
- Mikebjroberts0 contributionsDishonest, unprofessional, put travellers at risk, poor communication and after 3 months still awaiting a refundDO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THIS COMPANY FOR TOURS As a party of 5 we purchase 2 tours on Johannesburg and were offer free transfers. There tours were Johannesburg and the food tour. The 2 trips were a disaster and despite promises of a full refund we have not received it after 3 months with excuses such as the bank has lost it and it’s not my job to do this Day 1 1. Romeo our guide picked us up with another person in the passenger seat and offered no explanation of what was due to happen 2. He dropped what now appeared to be a friend off at work extending our journey into the city by 30minutes 3. We arrived at the apartheid museum with the explanation I will pick you up in 3 hours. Nothing further was added 4. Outside the next museum we asked him some questions and were promised he would look these up but never did 5. In Seweto he dropped us of and then moved the bus without telling us leaving us roaming Seweto on our own until he found us 6. His driving through was erratic and one one occasion nearly cashed into an oncoming car. 7. He got lost on the way back to the hotel and requested to use our mobile phone data at a cost to us in South Africa as his phone had died 8. He offer a snack as agreed but due to his driving nobody felt well enough to eat 9 he got lost searching for a mining museum 10. The vehicle needed a jump start DAY 2 NEVER TURNED UP until 2 hours after pickup Since returning the apparent CEO has promised a refund and has sacked Romeo but has name still appears on reviews. There has been numerous excuses for the refund but after 3 months I am still waiting IN SUMMARY Dishonest, unprofessional, poor communication and put travellers at risk DO NOT GO NEAR THIS COMPANYWritten August 2, 2024
- lisacL2317XV0 contributionsWalking tour of street art, with great foodWe thought this would be a food tour so I am writing this review to clarify others expectations. I think that a food tour should be all about food, including learning about the ingredients or food culture. This was not what we experienced, if a walking art tour with food stops is your jam, you might love this. Part 1. Stopping at various shops to encourage you to buy from local artists Part 2. Walking around Maboneng to see the many beautiful murals. Part 3. Stopping at “hole in the wall” restaurants to eat where locals eat. Excellent food. We stopped at three restaurants: Nigerian, Ethiopian, and Egyptian (but ate Zulu food). Nkosi, our guide, is Zulu. We enjoyed learning about that culture and my daughter loved the language lesson as he taught her how to say word with the “clicks”. I was disappointed that when I asked about food, ingredients or recipes, I was told to google. I think this was a great experience but should be described differently on trip advisor.Written July 28, 2024
- ElizabethMaryaB0 contributionsA Missed OpportunityI wanted to go on this tour, but it was challenging and kept falling through. The tour indicated that the price included pick-up and drop-off service. I registered for the tour on a Tuesday evening (around 6:00 p.m., as I remember it). TripAdvisor confirmed my registration. Unfortunately, the next morning, the tour operator emailed me and said that the tour was already "full" and they couldn't accommodate me. They offered to add me to Thursday's tour. Unfortunately, I already had plans for Thursday. We agreed to transfer my registration to Friday. It all seemed good. I asked to confirm that they would pick me up at my hotel (I had already supplied the hotel's name when making the reservation for Wednesday's tour). I did not hear back from the tour company. When Friday morning arrived, I received another email saying that, unfortunately, their vehicle had broken down in the early hours of the morning and that they were unable to provide transportation (as specified in the tour and price details). They asked if I could Uber to their location. I felt uncomfortable with this because I didn't know where I was going and because transportation was included in the price. All in all, I felt that two negatives were happening with the tour company (i.e., their inability to fulfill the confirmed Wednesday tour and then asking me to provide my own transportation for Friday.). Accordingly, I asked to cancel and to have a refund issued. TripAdvisor notified me quickly that the request for a refund was being processed. I am sorry that I missed this potential experience, and it might have just been a series of bad luck circumstances, but it didn't inspire me with confidence, nor with a sense that the tour operator was "on top of things." That said, all of the email correspondence was polite and clear, except for the non-response to my asking them to confirm transportation earlier than the day of the tour. Because they didn't respond, I didn't have a chance to set up a different experience for Friday on my own. That was very disappointing.Written July 28, 2024
- olivercv70 contributionsA small touch from Africa!! Food from Nigeria, Etiopía Ganna and ZuluThe driver and tour guy were great, we walk to this different Africa countries small restaurants, share with the people and drink an excellent beer !Written July 14, 2024
- jenniferbB163CN0 contributionsGreat group of guysThere is a lot of poverty in South Africa. This group of gentlemen have worked to start this business and have a great story. They take you through a neighborhood that is being revitalized. There were four different cuisines. The food was okay. The restaurants were a little shady looking. Very much hole in the wall joints. It was interesting to learn the history of the neighborhood.Written July 7, 2024
- HLSESS0 contributionsGreat experience!Found this tour on TA and booked it after texting them on what’s app. Driver arrived on time and off we went. Eunice was my guide but driver tagged along and was so fun. Really enjoyed hearing about Maboneng etc. We saw lots of art murals and tried food from Nigeria, Ghana; Ethiopia ; and South Africa. Great experience for my first day hereWritten June 27, 2024

Lesedi Cultural Village was a beautiful experience with wonderful performances and informative displays, Wow. And our guide made sure we were well taken care of throughout the day!Written June 6, 2024
- X4769YTjacobs0 contributionsA wonderful experienceThis was a Great day out! The safari was incredible, though we didn't spot a leopard. The cultural village was a delightful addition, showcasing the diversity of South African tribes. The lunch provided was excellent, and the transfers were seamless. A well-organized tour that’s worth every penny.Written June 6, 2024
- 215businessh0 contributionsAmazing experience! This tour was a fantastic way to experience the essence of South Africa in a single day! Pilanesberg National Park was breathtaking, and we were lucky enough to see all of the Big Five. The visit to Lesedi Cultural Village was equally enriching. Our guide Franck was knowledgeable and friendly, making the whole day enjoyable. Highly recommend this combo tour!Written June 6, 2024
- Travel421755291310 contributionsDishonest and Unresponsive - AVOID Honest Travel Experience!Dishonest and Unresponsive - AVOID Honest Travel Experience! My experience with Honest Travel Experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. I booked festival tickets for Swaziland, and Tye assured me everything was set. When I asked Tye on Friday if our tickets were secured, he didn't respond. It's now Tuesday, and he still hasn't replied. He just reads our messages and leaves us blue-ticked. We’ve tried reaching out to other representatives in the company including one of the owners Franck, but they are equally unresponsive. This is beyond frustrating. I have so many questions and no answers. We don't even know whether to start packing or not. Why are they doing this to us? 💔☹️😢 This lack of communication and respect is unacceptable. My anxiety is through the roof, and this whole ordeal has been incredibly stressful. Honest Travel Experience is anything but honest. 1. DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY: They are unreliable and disrespectful. 2. ZERO customer service: They ignore your messages and provide no support. 3. Tye is a joke: His unprofessionalism and lack of response are appalling. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. They are a complete scam!Written May 28, 2024

- Tour6371600 contributionsYou MUST book at least 1 tour!I did a few tours with Honest Travel because I had such a good time and the staff was so kind and welcoming. I was mostly with Malone & he made sure I had the best time. I’d do it again and again. As a solo traveler, this tour was amazing alone with the sunset dining and African food. I loved it all♥️♥️♥️♥️Written April 12, 2024

First weekend experience was such a very informative tour around Joburg. Franck who was our guide is well informed about the history of the places he showed us. I'd recommend it to my friends because I had a great time.
