About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- richardzB3488JW0 contributionsTremendous Experience - Highly Recommend It!!The Glacier and Dogsled tour (2 stops) was definitely the highlight of our Alaskan trip. The dogs are awesome and the musher was very informative and entertaining. It was a smooth helicopter ride. Pilot was super friendly and very professional. Don't worry if the day is not totally sunny. We had a high overcast day which meant no blinding sunlight and better appreciation of the blue glacier ice.Written March 14, 2025
- Y5157QUemilyk0 contributionsAwesome tour, awesome pilotWe had the best time on our Helicopter Trip! Sam, our pilot, was very knowledgeable and gave us a great tour. We saw a lot of things on our weeklong trip to Alaska and this was definitely the favorite, we're still talking about how awesome it was. Although there was some cloudiness and rain, it made the glacier so bright blue which was awesome to see in person. And we saw a moose while flying over a section of lower forest! The highlight was definitely walking around the glacier and drinking water straight from the glacier melt/runoff. Thank you!!Written March 6, 2025
- Penny H0 contributionsWhat an amazing experience!!More beautiful than I expected! I am so glad we did this tour - it is such a neat experience! I hope to see this all again sometime.Written February 28, 2025

- eldavid510 contributionsBest excursion in Alaska!!!We went on June 2022. One of the best experiences that we have on our trip. Great helicopter ride with incredible views, dogslead experience was great, the place we did the sledding was unreal, and finally the glacier landing was amazing.Written October 30, 2024
- Ionel_Rode0 contributionsDo NOT skip this activity. It is very unique. This must have been the best thing we had ever done in our lives so far. Everything went so smooth: from the helicopter rides flying over the glacier (very clean and well maintained I might add, friendly pilots, too), to jumping into the cold water, paddling around and squeezing thru the icy walls, the company we had with our guides, the tips, the tricks, the laughter, the little education we received, all together made the perfect experience. Kate and Heather (our guides) were absolutely amazing, so much fun to be with, so engaged with us making sure our adventure was going to become one of a kind, unforgettable. They took us literally hundreds of pictures :-) Thank You guys. I know this review is way overdue, but that day is not forgotten. There was absolutely nothing we did not enjoy about that day. You guys rocked! It was beautiful all around. Johnny - I recommend this experience, this adventure to anyone 100% with no hesitations. All thumbs up !!Written October 19, 2024
- amandacS9996DE0 contributionsDog sledding and glacier landing a must do in AlaskaWhat an amazing bucket list experience. Don’t have words for how beautiful the sights. Pilot Shane Cottom was fantastic and took us to the most gorgeous glacier, so worth the expense.Written October 16, 2024
- 104kennya0 contributionsNot worth the priceThis was our second helicopter tour in Alaska, and compared to the first tour with a different company, this one was by far the worst experience—from beginning to end. First, they told us we needed to pay a $150 surcharge because one of our five friends weighed 268 lbs, which is over the 250 lb limit. When I booked online through Viator and confirmed over the phone, I was told the surcharge would be around $20, not $150. What upset me even more was the reason for the charge. They claimed it was because they couldn’t sell another ticket due to the total weight limit of 600 lbs per helicopter. However, here’s the issue: the booking rules state that you can’t book the tour as a single person—you need at least two people. We were a group of five and booked two helicopters for the same time slot, so they wouldn’t have been able to sell any additional tickets anyway. They also mentioned that the total weight for each helicopter couldn’t exceed 600 lbs for three passengers. However, our group’s weights were 101, 110, 117, 149, and 268 lbs. Even with two helicopters, none of the combinations would have exceeded the 600 lb limit. It seemed like they were just trying to take advantage of us for extra money. Charging $150 just because one of us was 16 lbs over the limit is not a fair resolution. After this experience, I checked with the previous helicopter tour company we used and another company we booked for the next day. Both have a 290 lb per person limit, and as long as the total weight for three passengers doesn’t exceed 600 lbs, there’s no surcharge. That’s the fair rule they should be following. And this was just the beginning. After the flight, the guide hardly interacted with us or provided any explanations—it felt more like a taxi ride than a tour. The landing site, which was the most important part for us, was also a huge disappointment. It was nothing like what we had experienced on other helicopter tours, hikes, or boat tours, where the guides were engaging and informative. We were also supposed to have better helicopters, but they told us they didn’t have pilots to fly them, even though we paid for the top-tier experience. One extra tip: always ask the guide how long each landing will last so you get the maximum time you’ve paid for. On our 2-hour tour, everything felt rushed, and they didn’t even explain the itinerary properly. Please do your research before booking this tour. There are much better options in Alaska with more reasonable prices and a better overall experience. I will definitely never book with this company again, nor will I recommend them. For $3,600 plus a $150 surcharge, this was the worst experience we had in Alaska. We drive 4 hours round trip hoping for the best experience and turn out the worst experience. The only positive point of this tour was the smooth piloting of the helicopter itself.Written October 16, 2024
- Tour428020685300 contributions10/10 This is the way to see AlaskaJaw-dropping views and lots of wildlife! Soaring over these glaciers is really the way to experience them. Our pilot, Cody, flew the helicopter with skill and ease. He was friendly, engaging, knew all the answers to our questions, and tailored the tour to suit our interests and needs.Written October 7, 2024
- 942shihok0 contributionsAmazing views and epic timesThe views were absolutely spectacular! Our pilot Cody was super knowledgeable and informative about the glaciers. I learned so much! He also made us feel safe on our ride and planned an awesome flight for us! We got to see goats from afar, eat blueberries, and see epic views. Not to mention the helicopter ride itself was so cool!Written October 7, 2024
- Myra C0 contributionsBucketlist. This is one of my bucketlist that is way up on top.To see the glaciers and walk on top of it.The helicopter ride and seeing the glacier from above was breath taking and being able to walk in it is surreal. It was definitely a a goosebump moment. An added bonus was it was fall season. We were able to see the trees change colors on our ride back to the base. Everyone that comes to Alaska should do this tour. Its worth every penny. You will not regret it. And of course our pilot Brian who is a pro at what he does.He was very nice.Written September 30, 2024

This was a 45 minute cab ride from Anchorage to the Alaska Glacier Lodge (Tour provided the nice air conditioned van at an extra cost). On arriving we were put into groups and given a short safety briefing after which we went to one of a few helicopters outside. Ours sat 5 put the pilot. I was with an adult family of four and it was cozy but not uncomfortable. We took off very smoothly and flew about 10 minutes to a glacier where our excellent pilot Michael, landed gently on the ice. We exited, walked around for about 20 minutes and then returned to the lodge.
During the flight and on the glacier, Michael gave us information about the area, about glaciers, and about the helicopter. He was a terrific pilot and guide. I would recommend this short trip to anyone looking for a helicopter ride that isn’t too long and the experience of walking on a glacier and drinking some pure glacier water. (Note: nice clean bathroom facilities at the Lodge, as well as a small gift shop and a grill-type restaurant upstairs. If you Uber to the lodge on your own, make sure you can get a return ride because there may not be Ubers in the area).

We had an unforgettable experience with Alaska Helicopter Tours! It was the first time I had ever been in a helicopter and I was a bit nervous eat first. Upon arrival the staff made us feel very comfortable and their professionalism was obvious at each stage of our experience. Our pilot Bailey was a world class pilot and he took care of us. The day we flew the weather was a little windy on a few planned landings of our tour. The group at Alaska Helicopter Tours informed us that 2 of our 3 landings would be impossible that day and they quickly offered to reschedule us for a future day, refund or go out for a single landing. At first, we were bummed we couldn’t visit all three planned landing but we can’t control the weather, I was just pleased that the company choose our safety over profit that day. We ended up choosing the one landing option and that flight was more than anything we could have imagined. The helicopter ride was incredible. We flew through the canyon, mountains and landed on the glacier. Walking around on that massive block of ice was like a scene out of a scifi film. I’ve never seen water so blue and a landscape so vast. I highly recommend this tour to everyone. I cannot wait to go again!

After checking in at the Knik River Lodge, we were loaded into a 4 passenger helicopter and introduced to Bailey, our charming 22 year-old pilot. With departure from Knik Valley, the Knik Glacier pops into view immediately. After about 15 minutes, we land right in the middle of Knik Glacier and spent about 30 minutes exploring which included a couple of slides down a massive hill.
After returning to the helicopter, Bailey takes us over the azure blue lakes with crevasses made by the wind flying low enough to take it all in. We eventually spot moose and Dall sheep before returning back to the lodge.

From the moment we met the friendly mini bus driver in Anchorage, this trip was so well organised and professional. We felt extremely safe in the hands of our pilot Christian who was very competent. The office staff were very thorough with their pre flight safety instructions. We had originally booked to also do dogsledding, but on the day we were pre-warned that there was low cloud and it was unlikely we would be able to get there as it was a higher altitude to the glacier. Christian checked the visibility as we began to fly up the mountain but, yes, it was definitely unsafe to go any further, so we just landed on the glacier. We'd taken a water bottle to fill up with the crisp, cold water from the glacier. The same day, they promptly gave us a partial refund for the dog sledding portion.

The whole experience of Talkeetna Air Taxi was awesome. We went in June-July of 2021. Upon arrival they gear you up with shoe covers and weighs you. Leave your belongings in the car. Then they put you in a plane based on the group of people and weights. We were a group of 6 people . Our pilot was a guy from New Zealand ( sorry forgot the name) The air taxi takes off as small plane with wheels and flies close amidst the high glaciered-mountains and the beauty of it is just unbelievable. Below you can see mountaineers and glaciered rivers . We land amidst the glaciers. There are landing spaces for planes landing on the glaciers of Denali National Park. The landing wheels change into skaters. Standing amongst the great peaks and glaciers offers a perspective that is inspirational and unique.
A highly recommended thing to do if you are visiting Alaska.

Words cannot describe the amazing experience my son and I had on this trip. From the friendliness and professionalism of the staff the, the excellent condition of the Helicopter, and the shear beauty of the glacier everything was perfect. Exploring a glacier was a bucket list item for me and our pilot, Hayley Kline did an amazing job delivery a memorable experience. Besides being a great pilot, she was engaging and knowledgeable which added to the entire experience. While I know these trips are not low budget items they are worth expense, and Alaska Helicopter Tours goes above and beyond to make it a special event!

Took the one hour helicopter flight to Knik Glacier. It was a wonderful experience.
The landscape starts to get yellow leaves at the lower level, and full of green forest when we get higher; we would cross valleys to see mountain goats and wet land with moose; finally we would reach the endless glacier field, where you would only able to access with heli.
The pilot was super skilled and she was able to getting super close to the ice well as passing narrow valleys. With the full window panel, the sightviewing is truly a feast. Initially we were considering two hours or four hours trips, but due to the limit time schedule we ended up with one hour. It turned out to be perfect! Tasting the flight on glacier and making one stop to explore around is just right amount of adventure for us.
It would totally be worth your money for the trip! If you ever would like to do a Heli tour, do it in Alaska glaciers

Fantastic trip to see the glaciers!! Shawn Cotton did a great job of sharing information about the glacier and was more than helpful getting me out of the helicopter to see the glacier. Our grandson hiked all around the glacier for the half hour and loved it. Even drank some glacial water!! Also, the gals who help get everyone in the helicopter were sweet, pleasant and helpful. Worth the cost, an experience of a lifetime!!!

We took the Alaska helicopter glacier tour. The tour started with the shuttle pickup by Kevin and continued with Shard piloting the R44 helicopter to the glacier.
The entire experience was great. Shard made it a great and safe experience. He is an amazing pilot, making the entire flying seem so easy and safe. We had great views of the glacier and even landed in a safe spot as the last few days weather made it possible to land safely. He also shared lot of interesting information about the glacier and made sure we could experience some of the best views and the animal life around the place. Kudos to him for the great family experience.
Kevin was again really fun to talk to and shared lots of insights about the anchorage area and what makes it unique from a cultural and economic perspective.
I would highly recommend this tour for the professional skill and great culture of the entire team.

We were promised two helicopters for six people, where everyone in the party gets a window seat. We learned that all six of us are going on the same chopper when we arrived. People in the middle seats really couldn’t see much.
We were also late for the check-in time(30mins before departure). Because they were fully booked that day and have another tour after us, we kindly asked for a flight without landing. The pilot agreed to do it and only took us out for less than 20mins and no refund was given, which we understood.
When finished our tour, the pilot did not go out for another tour for like 30 mins(we were shopping for souvenirs during that time). It was our last day in anchorage and we were extremely apologetic and begged for a flight that was closer to the 1-hour we originally booked. However, the members there showed 0 sympathy and did not apologize for giving us one helicopter instead of two..

Thank you for your review, We love these types of reviews so we can help educate potential future bookers.
Alaska Helicopter Tours never promises any specific helicopter type unless you purchase a private tour. Due to routine maintenance we run on our helicopters to keep them running smoothly and safely, we never know which helicopter type we have until the day of. This is also stated in the documentation.
Yes, Check in is 30 mins prior to the departure time, You arrived 20 mins AFTER your tour departure time. Luckily we had another pilot still onsite but we were booked, we gave you the option to reschedule however you did not have this option. The tour was non-refundable so we gave you the option for a shorter flight which you agreed to.
To those looking to book, please read your documentation prior to and after booking. If you do not understand or need clarification for any policy, please feel free to call us directly at 907-272-7777
