- Carol K0 contributionsAlberta is awesome!!We had a wonderful tour with Alberta who is a true native! She had many personal stories and explained the history of the area. Alberta knew just where to find a bear catching salmon! Enjoyed the beach and totem poles as well as lots of great information!! Highly recommend!!Written August 18, 2024
- Z2379FEpatc0 contributionsKetchikan Family ToourWe were a family of 6 ages 10-86. Our guide, Sidney, was amazing. This was our first stop on the trip and she made everyone so comfortable. She took us out to walk the beach at low tide, showed the kids special jelly fish than are non-stinging, found starfish, showed us her favorite waterfall where her children like to play and a special small hike up the mountain. We saw bald eagles and salmon - but unfortunately no bear grabbing the salmon. She engaged every family member. We went to the Totem Bright State Park and she taught us so much about the history and culture of the totem poles. Our visit to the Clan House was particularly significant when she played her drum and sang for us. Can't recommend this tour enough. One of the highlights of our Alaska visit.Written August 5, 2024
- Jim D0 contributionsWorth the money, good excursion, local companyLloyd was our guide, he was beyond knowledgeable. He took us to the totem pole park and he could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the poles sand the culture. His wife’s family was from one of the tribes. We were free to kind of do whatever we wanted , we followed Lloyd’s suggestions. We weren’t to the waterfall, the fish ladder and to town. We were only in port for 5 hours. But we squeezed everything in. Lloyd was also kind enough to send some pictures of our cruise ship as we steamed pass his home on the way out of town 👍Written August 5, 2024
- X7705MAallisonk0 contributionsTour of the totemsWe loved getting to see Ketchikan from the view of a local! She showed us all the best spots, even brought us to buy jam from one of her local friends and we experienced tons of wildlife and nature. The totem pole park was so cool too and we really got a feel for the culture of Ketchikan.Written July 27, 2024
- nupeb0 contributionsSid was PHENOMENAL. She has a deep understanding of the region and its culture. We left with a much better appreciationReally fun and authentic experience. As advertised. We were treated to a raging waterfall (beaver falls) and saw a baby black bear cub.Written July 23, 2024
- 67BarbaraC0 contributionsThe best tour of our week!Best excursion of our week long trip to Alaska! Sid was absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable!! She took us to see bears (they weren't out), to the beach where we saw jellyfish, crabs, bald eagles, quartz, and learned about kelp and how they make pickles and salsa with them. She took us to a beautiful waterfall where she picked blueberries and salmon berries for us to try. Then we went to the totem park, where she shared her extensive knowledge with us. She even emailed me a PDF she created about the totem poles. She climbed down the rocks to find a starfish for my kids to hold. She even played an Alaskan lullaby using her family's drum while we sat in the clan house at the totem park. Then she dropped us off downtown so we could shop after giving us the scoop about which shops actually have authentic goods. Small, Alaskan owned company with staff who are locals and actually know what they are talking about! I cannot recommend this tour enough, it was absolutely incredible!!!!Written July 20, 2024
- 00760 contributionsGreat day with great pictures taken by our guides. It was a fabulous tour. Our guides were the owners as they nicely had given their other employees the day off for 4th of July. All the guides live in Ketchikan and are very knowledgeable. We drove all over and learned about the town, totem poles, the different tribes and so much more. We saw dozens of eagles soaring over us. The high school basketball team flies to go play their games. I highly recommend this tour!Written July 12, 2024
- HoneymoonBC20100 contributionsGreat multi-generation tour, comfortable, clean, friendly and funWe were a family of 10 ranging from 4 to 74. We had a lovely excursion with Caroline. She was a great communicator, prompt, and drove the cleanest, most comfortable bus/van of our trip. They included a booster seat for the youngest one and had bottled water for everyone onboard. Our favorite stop was a beach at low tide where we watched locals catch, clean, and feed the scraps of fresh caught salmon to the many eagles perched nearby. We stopped at water falls, picked salmon berries, learned about totem poles, and really enjoyed being together in a lovely place.Written July 9, 2024
- jennifervH7129EB0 contributionsGreat tour!Sid was an awesome tour guide! She was very accommodating and made it fun for everyone - from age 4 to 77. She is very knowledgeable about the area and history, so we learned a lot while seeing the local sights. Thanks, Sid!Written July 8, 2024
- susanjeanc19660 contributionsA great way to KetchikanCaroline picked us from the Cruise ship and took us on a lovely tour. She had some very interesting stories to share about her native roots and she tailored the tour to meet our mixed group with varying mobility. She also provided a photography service ensuring we have lovely memories of our trip.Written July 6, 2024
- AlexandraB900 contributionsDon’t hesitate - book this tour for an authentic and amazing experienceWhat a wonderful and authentic way to experience Ketchikan! This tour and experience with the Johnson Family (a true local family business) exceeded expectations. They were incredibly communicative, responsive and even early to the pick up spot just off the dock. It was just our family of 5 in a very spacious van which provided such a unique and custom experience that they tailored to our interests. Learning about their clans and the history of their people and their home here in Ketchikan and hearing the stories of the beautiful totems was incredible. Their passion for their culture and the nature here was apparent and contagious. We saw bears, bald eagles and were taken to places where the large cruise tours never even go to like their local pool, a hidden waterfall and Totem Bight park. Skip the mass tours from the cruise and book directly with this wonderful group to make the most of your time in this beautiful place and learn about its rich history from true locals. This was far more than just another tour, it was a wonderful afternoon and highlight of our Alaska trip.Written June 19, 2024
- CatChicago_IL0 contributionsA great Excursion!I thought that with our large group of 8 that a private tour would be nice instead of being on a large bus tour with cruise passengers. This was perfect for us. Our tour guides, Lloyd and Sharon, met us right at the dock of our ship. They showed us the town outside of downtown and shared many local facts. Went to Totem Bight National Park and shared many personal stories as Sharon is Tlingit and Haida descendant. Very interesting!! They took us to a small park where we saw a momma bear and her cubs! I would highly recommend this private tour.Written June 9, 2024
- drjeff0 contributionsBest day of our Alaska TripThis was the best tour of our Alaska trip. We spent 4 hours with Caroline who showed us the highlights of the indigenous peoples of Ketchikan. She was waiting for us as we got off the boat. It was exactly what we were looking for. We loved seeing the clan house and totem poles. Caroline was both friendly and knowledgeable . This tour was so magical ch better than any of the ships tours we took for the same price. She also took us to the best store we were in during our trip to Alaska . Kevin the owner was very accommodating and easy to deal with. All in all a well run operationWritten June 6, 2024
- Inspire142495024250 contributionsOk tourWe could have easily skipped this tour. Our guide was nice, but we didn’t feel like we got a lot out of the tour. She drove us around and tried her best to show us the area, but we were pretty familiar with the area from driving on our own and it wasn’t very interesting. She brought us to couple of nice local stores. Overall, if you have an extra time to burn, you might want to consider going to this tour. However, if you are in the area for short time, it can be easily skippedWritten June 4, 2024
- mcgeez0 contributionsAmazing tour with knowledgeable native residentSid was an amazing guide for our group of 6 cruisers in port for a few hours. Scenic views, waterfall, Totem Bight park, immense local knowledge and history. Our group was a mix of adults and teens and everyone enjoyed it. Her educator background and passion for that area shone through. Thanks for a memorable visit!Written June 2, 2024

If you want to get back to nature, this is a wonderful trip and I would definitely recommend.
The weather was lovely and so it was fantastic walking through the rainforest and the guide vocalising the history on such a sunny day.
Bight park has lots of original totem poles and you receive all the history including their life span, very interesting.
You can do a lot of walking, however I fell within the public community building hence for me it put a bit of a downer on it (hurt my leg and knee).
This is something the whole family can do if you like being one with nature 😍

April, thank you for the review but we do not recall any of our guest taking a spill on one of our tours. I’m glad that it was nothing serious but please email me the details so we can provide a better service for our guest.

Thank you so much for the amazing time Sharon! I really enjoyed learning about the Totem's in Totem Bight and their connection to your family. I also loved all the pearls of ancestral wisdom sprinkled throughout the tour such as fearing the land otter, knowing to be more cautious of bears when the skunk cabbage is out, and all the insights of new learning about the historical practices of carving, preserving and returning the Totem's to the Earth. Your patience as our group would stop and talk and share, allowing us time for visiting and then picking up where you left off before we left helped me really enjoy my short visit - the pacing felt perfect. Loved the rich stories and learning of the cultural practices such as how the ceremonial house was used and that the family walked behind the Matriach - love it! This trip has been powerfully healing to me. If I were to capture a headline for this trip, it came from Sharon. "Finding my grandmother's voice," she shared, was a concept meaning really finding that deep connection to your roots, to who you are, discovering your inner wisdom. Wow. So powerful, and to return to my childhood home, so many memories - some good, some bad, so fortunate to have spent my extremely brief visit with Sharon. Her warmth, passion for learning and teaching about her culture really shines through. Sharon has such a wealth of knowledge about the Native culture, plants, wildlife and the Ocean. Sharon is a true Alaskan gem, one of the wise leaders among the indigenous Natives of Ketchikan, taking great pride and joy in teaching the culture as a way of preserving and protecting their history and cultural practices. Along with the wisdom from her elders, she shares new insights from what they are learning now about the history and restoration of these magnificent totems. I could listen to her share all day long! Thank you so much for making this trip so special Sharon!
