THE WORST TOUR OF ALL TIME
without a doubt the WORST tour i have ever done. would give this 0 stars if possible. they tell you they're taking you to a wildlife preserve but what they actually take you to is a pond just outside of a wildlife preserve and tell you that theres probably bears inside. we drove 30 minutes each way for them to let us stand there and wait 5 minutes before giving up and forcing us back on the trolley. we then drive to the totem city where we have an 50 minutes to look at 6 totems (why so much time, give us 50 minutes to look for bears instead of 5??). there was also a "rainforest hike" which was a 20 meter path through some trees next to a car park that just looped from where the totems were to the entrance of the car park. not a rainforest. we understand they can never guarantee you'll see bears but when they only give you 5 minutes in a 2 hour tour to look for bears in a spot where bears don’t go, you can guarantee that you WONT see bears. we were absolutely swindled by the people promoting this tour on the docks. DO NOT GO ON THIS TOUR.

Don’t waste your money on this tour - a total let down
Our family of 5 took this tour when we got off our ship in Ketchikan having not booked any excursions for this port. We wish we had stuck to our original plan to just wander the town because we (along with everyone else on the tour) felt we had “been had” spending $65usd per person for zero return. The tour was a total let down with a freezing cold 20-30 minute trolley ride to stand on the side of some random pond and see nothing at all. After that total disappointment we were driven to a “rainforest “ which was literally a short nature path adjacent to the car park. The totem pole park was also a major let down and we headed back to the trolley and waited with all the other passengers and discussed how we all felt so duped. We understand that seeing bears wasn’t guaranteed but we saw nothing …absolutely nothing. Do not waste your money on this toir.

Not good. Not good at all.
I had high hopes. We bought this tour right off the cruise ship with the hopes of seeing bears. We'll, we didn't see a single bear. Our tour guide wasn't surprised either. When she noticed our disappointment, she offered to show us a video of the bears she saw last month, the last time she saw bears on a tour. They took us to a small pull off from the road, right in between a bunch of houses. I understand there is no guarantee that you will see bears, but they took us to the one place in town where there are no bears. The tour guide was not knowledgeable or professional. I cannot understate how much I do not recommend this scam tour. Horrible.

      Great wildlife and culture
An excellent tour with a very friendly and informative guide, Jeff. We were lucky enough to see several bald eagles and a black bear. The totems were also very interesting. Thoroughly recommend this tour.

Not worth the money. We saw no bears, no wildlife. The older gentleman at the both was rude and our tour ran over.
The older man at the booth was extremely rude. We saw no bears, no wildlife. The tour ran over and we had to rush back to the ship. Not worth the money to basically go for a long drive.

      Awesome day and tour
The guide Jeff was really knowledgeable and helped us see tons of wildlife. The trolley was awesome and they had blankets and binoculars we could use the entire time. It was a great day in Ketchikan.

Fun and unique tour in Ketchikan!
We had an amazing time! The reservations were easily made, and the trolley was a fun and unique way to get around. We especially loved getting to see a bear and tons of eagles. The stops were beautiful and perfectly timed, and our guide Jeff was super knowledgable and funny. Overall we had the best time and highly recommend this fun tour of Ketchikan!

      A Tour to Avoid
This tour was highly disappointing and not worth the cost. The experience was far below expectations, taking us to some of the least appealing spots in Ketchikan. I strongly advise saving your money and considering alternative options.

      Waste of time
What a waste. Zooming past the city and past small openings in the trees to "possibly" see whales. Off-season salmon runs so very unlikely to see bears. Totem stop with all varying stories from tour guides. Lies lies lies from the moment the sales pitch started. He Said, "The fish Runs started early" I questioned him and he flat out lied. "Because there are no guarantees"

      A great tour
Having only a limited time in Ketchikan, my sister and I booked this tour and loved it! A cable car is fun anytime but the driver/guide was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. We stopped a few times for photo opportunities and never felt rushed but certainly saw the area around Ketchikan. Terrific and would recommend.

      Wildlife!
The guide was good. This tour is essentially 2 stops with narration along the way. We saw a bald eagle. At the Creek we saw bears. Then we went to the Totem Pole park which provided another guide and then there was time to see additional totem poles. Only issue: our cruise ship was at position 4 and our meeting place was at Desk 17, position 1. No one there when we got there. They were picking up passengers at our ship! We had spoken with the tour provider in advance and let him know what ship we were on. A long, unnecessary walk and uncertainty once we reached the meet point.

      Worth doing, great mix!
Loved this tour! Our driver Jeff, was very informative and entertaining, as well as making sure we would see bald eagles and bears, which we did! The history on the totems was interesting, too. Nice mix of seeing and doing different things on this tour. The trolley was fun and comfortable. Jeff even had blankets for us if we got cold, which we didn’t need. It’s not a completely open trolley, which helped to keep us all comfortable, and was a great way to see Ketchikan.

This tour provided an interesting overview of the Ketchikan area. Our driver and tour guide, Bob, was full of entertaining stories and information. He pointed out local spots in town and then took us to a wildlife viewing area at a river mouth to watch salmon spawning, eagles and do a bear search. Then we ended the tour at the Potlatch Park which was the highlight for me. The Totem poles and carvings were exquisite and the setting was really beautiful. Thanks, Northern Tours!

My wife and I booked this tour directly (not through the cruise line), several months in advance. When we showed up for the tour (which was in the afternoon), the gentleman at the booth said that everyone that day had signed up for the early tour - and they would be running the afternoon tour just for us. Wow. We had a very nice afternoon with our guide who gave us a lot of history, as well some fun contemporary information about the town, real estate (which was really interesting), weather, etc. We learned a lot. Oh - we did see salmon running, eagles and bears.... which is why a lot of folks on these tours; as well as some excellent cultural spots. Thank you Norther Tours!

Our van driver Juan was a wonderful guide! Ask for him for sure. We didn’t see bears because we were a little late in the day but Juan took us to a cove just dripping with eagles. Juan is a local and knows the area from growing up there, not just memorizing a script. We really appreciated all he shared! Thank you Juan!!

Save your money! Use another company!!
This tour COULD HAVE been great
But, out guide Ty seemed clueless… maybe it was his first day on the job, I’m not sure. But, even if that was the case, a few hours spent googling things probably would have been helpful for him. He might have known quite a bit about commercial fishing, which he apparently had done for most of his life, and probably should have stayed in that industry!

Then again, it’s too bad that the owner of the company doesn’t bother to ensure that their guides/ drivers have some sort of a script, or more knowledge about the area, and attractions or points of interest!!

We were on a cruise ship and wasn't sure what to do. We took a short walk and saw this tour company. We decided to take the tour. Our tour guide Alfred was so knowledgeable. He was raised in Ketchikan, we enjoyed his stories. You could ask him any question and he was able to answer us. I would highly recommend this tour.

The Potlatch Park was very disappointing. A few totems on private property that wasn't well maintained. Heavy equipment haphazardly placed around the totems and the buildings. Then we were told to shop in the gift shop.
Our guide was worthless in his knowledge. He told us " The Iditarod is a big deal here. It is something like 1000-2000 miles" Seriously? If it's a big deal, you would think you would know how many miles! For our second stop he took us to the side of the road to try to see a bear in a wildlife sanctuary. Meanwhile, we were watching people walk on a boardwalk in the wildlife sanctuary... I can't believe we paid money of this.

We are sorry if you were disappointed at the park. Unfortunately we have no control on when they feel they need to maintain their poles. Since you did not tell us who your driver/guide was we can offer no explanation as to the misunderstanding of the Iditarod which is a big deal in Alaska. As far as the boardwalk that is on the other side of the creek, that happens to be a much more expensive tour then we offer.
