We chose the Wildlife Trolly. Our driver was a very colorful person to say the least, but she knew all the good dirt about the area. We toured the area and stopped at several places where wildlife were known to hang out. Saw a bear in the distance, plenty of salmon.

Colorful local giving lots of interesting information. He pointed out a bald headed eagle, seals and a bear in the water at Herring Bay. I found the totem pole info interesting too. We were lucky with a sunny day.

This excursion delivered exactly what I expected. It was very low key, and our guide Jessica made it awesome. She was engaging and the history about the town and totems was so good! I did not love the gift store by the totems- overpriced and PACKED shoulder to shoulder with people. It seemed odd to sell replica totem poles with “made in china” stickers. I wish that part was more authentic. That said- don’t skip the experience because the gift shop isn’t great.

Pleasant and informative 2 hours spent with Jeff - very knowledgeable tour guide.
Learned a lot about Ketchikan. Fascinating to see totem poles being made. Sadly we didn't spot a bear but we did see salmon and lots of bald eagles. Trolley car was fine to ride in too.

Pleasant and informative 2 hours spent with Jeff - very knowledgeable tour guide.
Learned a lot about Ketchikan. The Totem village. He played a lot of trivia games to see if we were paying attention.

Hilarious fella Jeff.

The tour was not what we thought, we were looking forward to seeing wildlife and thought the Saxman Village Totems tour would allow for more inter-active with the natives, but it didn't happen. The tour guide was knowledgeable about the totems, but because of the tour we were own we were not able to go inside the building and watch the native show. We were allowed to go in after the show and fortunately some of the performers were still inside to take pictures and talk with us. We did see a bald eagle and our guide tried really really hard to show us other wildlife but with no success. I think knowing what I know now, I would have stayed in town and visited the shops or taken the other tour that would have allowed access to the building and go inside the shop to see the carving of the totem pole.

I am writing to say how disappointed I was in this tour. I took my elderly mother and handicapped friend on a three week vacation to Alaska. We tried to enjoy an excursion in each port we stopped. Before purchasing any excursion I would discuss the limitations of my friend in order to see if was reasonable. I was assured her use of a wheelchair would not be an issue. While she could ride along and get to each destination we were left behind as the guide did not allow for any extra time for her or my slower mother. We didn't expect to hike the trails, however, at the stops with even ground where she could have enjoyed the talk he was pushing forward. So, based on my experience if you are traveling with elderly or handicapped - don't waste your money.

Ok so my husband and I are divided on this. he would give it 4/5 where I gave it 3/5.
The guide was good and well informed. The wildlife just didn't play ball. not his fault. That's wildlife for you.
We saw more bald headed eagles in random places ( off the stern of the ship ) than we did on this trip and we didn't see any bears. They appeared at random times too. Nature at its best LOL!
We enjoyed what the guide had to share about the totem poles. Enough info without creating back pain from standing too long. You could ask more questions if you wanted. We did get into the native building but after the 'show' so a bit of a let down.
Depends what else you have done or are going to do. Average trip but guide was good.

This tour was alright however if you stop in Sitka first and do the Raptor and Bear tour, this is a repeat without the stop at the refuges. I would have skipped this tour and spent more time viewing the town.
