About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- steverA4031NF0 contributionsTurned into a Private Tour!My wife and I booked this tour directly (not through the cruise line), several months in advance. When we showed up for the tour (which was in the afternoon), the gentleman at the booth said that everyone that day had signed up for the early tour - and they would be running the afternoon tour just for us. Wow. We had a very nice afternoon with our guide who gave us a lot of history, as well some fun contemporary information about the town, real estate (which was really interesting), weather, etc. We learned a lot. Oh - we did see salmon running, eagles and bears.... which is why a lot of folks on these tours; as well as some excellent cultural spots. Thank you Norther Tours!Written August 27, 2024
- suecC9345LP0 contributionsExcellent Small Van Tour with Juan. Our van driver Juan was a wonderful guide! Ask for him for sure. We didn’t see bears because we were a little late in the day but Juan took us to a cove just dripping with eagles. Juan is a local and knows the area from growing up there, not just memorizing a script. We really appreciated all he shared! Thank you Juan!!Written July 1, 2024
- Vacation390943812700 contributionsA Tour to AvoidThis tour was highly disappointing and not worth the cost. The experience was far below expectations, taking us to some of the least appealing spots in Ketchikan. I strongly advise saving your money and considering alternative options.Written June 28, 2024
- 132douglasr0 contributionsAvoidWorst ever.. Visited places of minimal interest, and worst of all spent far to long at each; very poor narrotive; total rip offWritten October 1, 2023
- claude p0 contributionsKetchican van tourTypical Ketchican day. Lots of rain but Carson didn’t let it slow us down The streams were high and a bit late in the season so we saw salmon but no bears… however Carson was a great story teller and has lived here for years so he knew the good the bad and the ugly LOL We did not book on the ship so we saved a considerable sum. Even with gratuity it was under 100$/person where the cruise line is at least double We booked it where shuttle let us off Since we were all fairly wet Carson dropped us back at the ship so we avoided the shuttle back. Much appreciated Gave 4 out of 5 only because of weather which is not on the tour company Great ride!Written September 18, 2023
- davidbK3740OF0 contributionsMinibus tour of the city, wildlife and totem parkAn interesting and informative tour with an excellent and informative guide (Tyler). The bay and the waterfall were the best bits, saw seals, salmon, and eagles (and wanted to see a bear catching the salmon but none showed up!)Written August 17, 2023
- Lala_stephen0 contributionsWild life!Today was AWESOME! She was highly knowledgeable about everything on the tour and really took the time to show us around and we didn’t feel rushed. She was highly engaging and funny! She knew everything about the Totem poles and the history of Ketchikan. We saw a Bear, and a ton of Eagles!Written July 31, 2023
- 905marylouc0 contributionsGreat semi-private tourSeeing a flock of eagles. Carson was a great guide with local knowledge. Nice coach and better than a big bus tour.Written June 28, 2023
- 792wendelk0 contributionsPlease save your moneyThis was one of the worst tours we were persuaded to take. We left our ship to be greeted by a vendor flashing pictures of bears, salmon and other wildlife. We were loaded on to a small van. The tour consisted of a drive out of town to a construction site where we spent a half hour looking at a stream from afar. The only wildlife we saw were some birds. Then we were driven to the other side of Ketchikan where we were shown a run down park with some totem poles and an old native American house. The tour was not worth the time we spent which would have been better served by just walking around the city. I hope this review will save some people the money that regretfully we wasted on this tour.Written September 14, 2022
- Dorris W0 contributionsPotlatch Park TotemsThis tour provided an interesting overview of the Ketchikan area. Our driver and tour guide, Bob, was full of entertaining stories and information. He pointed out local spots in town and then took us to a wildlife viewing area at a river mouth to watch salmon spawning, eagles and do a bear search. Then we ended the tour at the Potlatch Park which was the highlight for me. The Totem poles and carvings were exquisite and the setting was really beautiful. Thanks, Northern Tours!Written August 21, 2022
- ginamarie920 contributionsDo betterMisrepresented the time on this tour. We told them we were looking for something 2 hours or less because of time constraints. They told us and others on our bus it was 2 hours. When others were told 2 1/2. In reality it was 2 hours and 45 minutes. While most might like more time, we were very limited on time. Also, our driver was nice but not very professional or knowledgeable. She kept complaining on the loud speaker about the way other people were driving. She hasn’t lived there but about a month and really needs better training. She also kept pulling over in places and saying this isn’t part of the tour but we will stop here. It would have taken longer than what it did but we finally complained to her about time. Oh and were also told tour started at 8;30, we didn’t leave until 8:45 and then had to pick up other people at another location. Not worth the money and definitely need to train their staff and do a better job of communicating and time management.Written June 23, 2022
- RobertL1660 contributionsNot worth it!!Save your money! Use another company!! This tour COULD HAVE been great But, out guide Ty seemed clueless… maybe it was his first day on the job, I’m not sure. But, even if that was the case, a few hours spent googling things probably would have been helpful for him. He might have known quite a bit about commercial fishing, which he apparently had done for most of his life, and probably should have stayed in that industry! Then again, it’s too bad that the owner of the company doesn’t bother to ensure that their guides/ drivers have some sort of a script, or more knowledge about the area, and attractions or points of interest!!Written June 12, 2022
- lrobertson0700 contributionsGreat whale watching experience!Excellent! Tad & Manny - our guides - were excellent whale & wildlife spotters. Boat was comfortable and great for viewing & picture-taking.Written May 11, 2022
- WinteringhamSteve0 contributionsBuyer bewareWe booked after a quayside haggle was kept waiting for 30 mins before getting picked up in bus, went to herring cove and totem pole park with tour of downtown too but must admit it was poor value for money. It was disorganised and felt like a bit of a scam to be fair.Written November 23, 2019
- 902terry0 contributionsAll in OneMy wife and I went on the All In One Tour on a wet day. The guide filled in the points of interest with a lot of anecdotal information about life in Ketchikan which was great. The Totem Village was very interesting and we were blessed with seals, heron, eagles, deer and a black bear at Heron Creek. We were then dropped off in the town centre to explore the township. All in all we had a great day.Written October 23, 2019

We recently visited Ketchikan and promptly looked for an activity that would show us around the town. As we got off our ship, we spotted the sign for Ketchikan San Francisco Trolley Tour.
The Tour offered a ride around town stopping to show some of the points of interest and possible animal sightings along the way.
Our Trolley was charming and authentic to the trolleys we had seen in San Francisco some years earlier. The guide was friendly and shared some insight on the local area.
We stopped at a beautiful little waterfall to get some pictures and the obligatory selfie before moving on. We drove through town, and we were told about the old buildings and seedy goings on many years before. The town has a quaint welcoming feel and is best seen on this tour to take it all in.
Our next step was at a creek that had lots of bald eagles fishing for salmon that you could see swimming down the river. Unfortunately, we didn't see any bears but as these things cannot be guaranteed, we were not too disappointed and instead enjoyed watching a mother eagle with her eaglet in the river paddling about waiting for an opportunity for an easy salmon.
The last stop was at the totem Park where we learned the fascinating facts about the totems and even got the opportunity to watch the master craftsmen who is world renowned, carving totems. This was a treat and an authentic Alaskan experience.
We were very happy with this tour and would recommend it to future visitors to Ketchikan with limited time to see the town.

We chose the Wildlife Trolly. Our driver was a very colorful person to say the least, but she knew all the good dirt about the area. We toured the area and stopped at several places where wildlife were known to hang out. Saw a bear in the distance, plenty of salmon.

The guide was good. This tour is essentially 2 stops with narration along the way. We saw a bald eagle. At the Creek we saw bears. Then we went to the Totem Pole park which provided another guide and then there was time to see additional totem poles. Only issue: our cruise ship was at position 4 and our meeting place was at Desk 17, position 1. No one there when we got there. They were picking up passengers at our ship! We had spoken with the tour provider in advance and let him know what ship we were on. A long, unnecessary walk and uncertainty once we reached the meet point.

I had high hopes. We bought this tour right off the cruise ship with the hopes of seeing bears. We'll, we didn't see a single bear. Our tour guide wasn't surprised either. When she noticed our disappointment, she offered to show us a video of the bears she saw last month, the last time she saw bears on a tour. They took us to a small pull off from the road, right in between a bunch of houses. I understand there is no guarantee that you will see bears, but they took us to the one place in town where there are no bears. The tour guide was not knowledgeable or professional.
I cannot understate how much I do not recommend this scam tour. Horrible.

If you have limited mobility and want to see venues outside the city shops, this may be the activity for you. Our driver was knowledgeable and very entertaining but this activity needs a little beefing up. We pulled over twice to look at waterways but did not get out. We stopped at creek bed near the drivers home but did not see bears. We were able to get out but could not walk on the board walk where other visitors were walking. At our final stop, we got out at a totem park where were informed we could not go into the building where artists make the totems nor the building used by the community. We were however given 15 minutes to go into the store to by trinkets.

Our family of 5 took this tour when we got off our ship in Ketchikan having not booked any excursions for this port. We wish we had stuck to our original plan to just wander the town because we (along with everyone else on the tour) felt we had “been had” spending $65usd per person for zero return. The tour was a total let down with a freezing cold 20-30 minute trolley ride to stand on the side of some random pond and see nothing at all. After that total disappointment we were driven to a “rainforest “ which was literally a short nature path adjacent to the car park. The totem pole park was also a major let down and we headed back to the trolley and waited with all the other passengers and discussed how we all felt so duped. We understand that seeing bears wasn’t guaranteed but we saw nothing …absolutely nothing. Do not waste your money on this toir.

What a waste. Zooming past the city and past small openings in the trees to "possibly" see whales. Off-season salmon runs so very unlikely to see bears. Totem stop with all varying stories from tour guides. Lies lies lies from the moment the sales pitch started.
He Said, "The fish Runs started early" I questioned him and he flat out lied.
"Because there are no guarantees"

It was fine. There was a mix up with the meeting place. We were given vague instructions on where to wait. No one around to ask for help and ended up missing the tour. Called the number and no answer, still no one to help. Finally someone called back and said the bus came and went. Someone from the company came and sent us out with a driver. Tour was okay, I would advise you to consider something else. The company was good about making up for the mix-up and we appreciated that.

Loved this tour! Our driver Jeff, was very informative and entertaining, as well as making sure we would see bald eagles and bears, which we did! The history on the totems was interesting, too. Nice mix of seeing and doing different things on this tour.
The trolley was fun and comfortable. Jeff even had blankets for us if we got cold, which we didn’t need. It’s not a completely open trolley, which helped to keep us all comfortable, and was a great way to see Ketchikan.

Colorful local giving lots of interesting information. He pointed out a bald headed eagle, seals and a bear in the water at Herring Bay. I found the totem pole info interesting too. We were lucky with a sunny day.

I took one handicapped person and my elderly mother with me on this tour and do NOT recommend it. While they can accommodate the wheelchair on the trolley and some of the stops, the guide gave no extra time for my handicapped person thus we were often left by ourselves.
