      No forgiveness given
I am not reviewing the actual tour, but an experience I had with Seaside Tours. I had booked the "Ketchikan 4 in 1" Tour. I arrived by cruise ship and arrived at the meeting point early. The tour representative asked for my name, but couldn't find it on his list. We learned that by my own mistake, I had shown up on the wrong day...a Thursday instead of Tuesday. They told me if I had contacted them two days earlier, they would have made an exception. But naturally, I didn't because I hadn't realized that I had made the mistake until that morning! So, they said I couldn't go. I could understand that if the tour van going was FULL and they didn't have room, but there were only two other people going on the tour that day, and they had PLENTY of room. I just think it would have been good customer service and a good will gesture to let us board the van and go on the excursion, especially since we had already PAID for it! Just sayin.'

      Very happy with this tour!
This is a very good small-group tour. Only 6 of us! Tour guide was a local resident so he was able to tell us lot about Ketchikan and it’s residents. He really tried to find bears for us but we were unlucky. He was also very knowledgeable about the totems.

      Ketchikan highlights
Great tour of highlights of points of interest in Ketchikan. Nick did a great job, and even pointed out details of area plant life. Loved the beach.

      Uninformed and missed out
Do not book this tour if you are sailing to Ketchikan with NCL. We were not informed that the meeting place for the tour is a 20 minute bus ride into town from the port and then a 1/2 mile walk. By the time we disembarked the cruise ship, took the bus to town, then made the half mile walk, the tour was long gone. We requested a refund but of course we were denied. Really disappointed to miss out on touring this stop

      Wonderful tour and guide
Shane was very informative. He was very patient as we were running late because our ship docked in a different location. He gave us a lot of interesting info. Would definitely tour thru them again. He was willing to wait for the bears to show their face as long as we were willing to wait . An earlier comment made about not price matching was with trip advisor so we cancelled thru them and booked directly as trip advisor kept playing games in requesting the same thing over and over for proof. If going on the tour from a cruise ship just make sure it docks where he is located or you need to take the shuttle into town anlut 15 mins. and then walk about 10 mins to the meeting point. We learned the hard way but Shane was great in waiting the extra 5-10 minutes for us and another couple from another ship.

      Only One Totem Pole Park
The driver was very friendly as he drove our group around Ketchikan and the outskirts. He took us to a river with salmon swimming upstream to spawn. And we saw a bear in the distance! The tour guide mostly left us on our own to explore each location. He only took us to one totem pole location instead of the two that are advertised. And we were left to just wander the totems and figure things out for ourselves. He did give us a pamphlet that had brief descriptions of each pole. And we found another tour group that had a guide that knew the fun stories behind each totem so we joined with them for two of the stories.

      Great summary of the land
Shawn (forgive me if I got the name wrong) greeted us at the location that was described to me exactly to the tee. Another couple never made it so we had a private tour and our guide Courtney let us choose how long we wanted to stay at each stop. We even asked to cut it short slightly because of some shopping we wanted to do. Unfortunately the cruise ship shortened our time in a place that could have used several more hours. Even though we didn't see bears, eagles, seals or whales it was a great time getting to know lots about Ketchikan. I would highly recommend this tour. No need to book excursions from the cruise ships that are over priced and packed like sardines in a can.

      Disappointed with this Tour
This excursion started out later than expected due to tardiness of the driver. Once we were all in the van the organizer sent us off with what seemed to be an inexperienced guide. He took us around town and pointed out salmon ladder, Creek Street, community school, etc. then we made a stop at Rotary Park which had beautiful scenery. Next stop was a salmon hatchery for a few minutes then to a rather obscure waterfall. From there we went to Saxman Totem Park where we were given a brochure and about 15 minutes to walk around then back to the cruise port. Our guide admitted he was not well versed in history or the art of touring..I commented that this wasn't what the tour description stated and now I don't even see the "Ketchikan 4 in 1" listed. The folks on our cruise recommended tours that enabled them to view a lot of wildlife.

      Fantastic Ketchikan Tour
We had a fantastic tour thru Ketchikan that included the salmon ladder, an extensive black bear sighting, Creek Street, the totem pole carving site, and too many scenic sites to list here. Our tour guide was Ketchikan born and bred and she shared her extensive knowledge of the area with us throughout the tour. If you’re looking for a small group tour that will give you an insider’s view of Ketchikan at an extremely reasonable price, look no further — this is it!

      Choose another option!
It was a very dissapointing tour. We were very excited to get to Ketchikan and get to know its history and beautifull scenes. But we payed for a tour that it was practically a school bus where we were asked to get down from it and get on a few minutes ago with out any explanations or reviews from the place we were visiting. The little things we learned from Ketchikan were thanks to another tour guide that was working with another group and that we got to hear from the distance. CHOOSE ANOTHER OPTION, just think, WILL YOU BE ABLE TO COME TO ALASKA AGAIN?

I did not have an experience because it did not exist.
Bad!!! Wrong tour name and place. This did not existi.. I want a refund. False advertisement. I was told this does not exist and was put into a really boring walk that cost less than what I paid. It was not what I reserve.

Nice way to spend 4 hours
Really nice tour with knowledgeable guides. Meeting place is easy to find and basically right off the ship by the visitor center. You'll be in vans so it will be a small group. Lots of time to spend at the stops. It appears the tour write up is basically a guide, but can be modified based upon what is available. For example we spent a lot of time watching eagles over a Salmon river as the Salmon were running that day. Had to have seen 15-20 eagles - but it was that time of the year. Other times there might not be any so the tour could go someplace else. Regardless it was a good experience and worth the money. Only issue is the tour didn't provide any water. Might want to bring your own.

Loved the 4 in 1 Tour
Mike was an excellent guide & very knowledgeable. Our time in Ketchikan was limited & we saw several different things in a short amount of time (2-1/2 hours) which was perfect for us. We stopped at a beach to hunt for sea glass where my husband found a unique quartz rock & Mike found a tiny crab. During another stop we had a bald eagle fly directly over us. We were so fascinated watching that we didn't think about taking a photo. Our cruise ship didn't offer any tour like this & we're so glad we booked with Seaside Tours.

Ditched us at the pier, said he forgot about us. He was over booked and we got screwed. Look elsewhere so as not to ruin your day.

SO UNPROFESSIONAL! Consumer Beware!!! Had one of the worst experiences with this tour operator (Seaside Tours). Shuttle from cruise ship to meeting location was slightly delayed, so we called to see if it would be OK if we got there with a little delay (10-15 min). A male answered from the company and said that there were several people in the same situation and not to worry, that they’d wait for us. When we got there, they were no where to be found. We waited and we waited. After about 20 minutes we tried calling them at least a 1/2 dozen times and no one picked up. Finally, we went into the Ketchikan Visitors Center (right next to meeting location) and with their help, we finally got someone to answer. They said that they had to go get another group and just left. They said they’d be back. After another 30 minutes or so, they were still a no show. We were the only ones still waiting at the RainGage meeting point. I can’t tell you how many times we tried reaching them and no one answered. At that point, we called Trip Advisor to share what had happened and to request a refund. They rep seemed friendly enough and said not to worry, that they had to investigate formally and would be emailing us. It appears that the tour operator blatantly lied about what happened and said that we were the ones that didn’t show up. (They should request CCTV video of the visitor center area). Trip Advisor is believing their lies and we are out nearly $600. The business practices of this operator are shameful. Some local people there overheard our calls and said that this company doesn’t have a great reputation. I see why. Please be careful with your family and your money. They have no regard for professionalism or your hard earned family money. I am so disappointed as this was a special trip with our children Trip Advisor’s communication and response also leave a lot to be desired. Wanted to share an honest experience in the hopes of helping someone else be able to enjoy an excursion in Ketchikan and not fall prey to something like this. So disappointed.

Very personalized experience. Much better than going in a large group. We saw herds of people coming to the same place we went and they were groups of 30 to 50 at a time who were in a rush to leave. Shane picked us at the dock and waited for us till we made it there (unlike few other reviews that suggested they don't wait), he spent ample time to make sure we are able to get good bear sightings and also took us to few other places that gave us comprehensive Ketchikan experience.

After meeting at the rainfall gauge near the cruise dock we lucked out as there was just the two of us on the tour with Mason. He was cool with us modifying the tour and being a local he was so knowledgeable about the sites. We had a lot of laughs following the running salmon from the ladder to Herring Cove way upstream and spotted bald eagles, great blue herons, and a seal along the way. Mason even waded into the river to rescue a young boy's lure that he nearly lost. We were excited to visit the totem pole site and after asking the senior carver's permission he let us in the building where they were carving a new pole (great smell of cedar!).

My sister and I went on a cruise together and booked this tour together. Our tour was on a Friday but I accidentally booked mine for the day before and did not realize it until I checked my ticket the day before the tour. So, we went to the tour meeting place the day of and explained to the manager, Shane, what had happened and asked if I could go with my sister since I had already paid $95 for the tour. Shane told me no because I was a ‘no show’ the day before and I would have to pay for another ticket if I wanted to go. My sister and I both tried to explain what happened but Shane still would not let me go (the tour was not full that day either and he had plenty of room in the van). I didn’t want my sister to go alone so I paid an additional $70 (in cash, wouldn’t take a credit card) to take the tour with my sister. The tour itself was okay but not worth the money or hassle I had to pay. I think the whole situation was handled poorly by Shane. You would think they would want to to accommodate their paying customers and keep families together but this was not the case. I would not recommend this tour.

Wow, what a fantastic time we had on this tour! My daughter and I were the only ones on this particular tour which made it more personalized. It was great to see more of Ketchikan than just the port area. Shane was a great guide with much knowledge who seemed to really love the area and was very happy to show us around and experience as much as we could in the time we had. Seeing the salmon, bald eagles and the bear running through the water nabbing a salmon was an absolute highlight. Highly recommend this tour! Thanks again Shane!

Our tour guide shared a lot of interesting local information, and he listened to and responded to all of our questions really well. The tour van had definitely seen better days, and our tour guide smoked during every stop, so it was hard to enjoy the fresh Alaska air. The stop at Rotary Beach was unnecessary except for the fact that it offered a restroom. It would have been better just to spend more time at Herring Cove watching for bears. We selected this tour because it fit with the very specific schedule that our cruise experience dictated, but overall, a higher-end tour would have been preferable.

We had the absolute best time and Shane was fun, and extremely knowledgeable sharing a lot of information that only locals would know. We saw a mama bear and her three cubs as well as eagles, a beautiful waterfall, salmon leaping up the ladder and so much more. Definitely take this trip!

We had a one day stop in Ketichan from our cruise ship and there was nothing quite right in the shore excursions list so I booked this trip direct. It was fabulous.
We were not that lucky with the animal spotting - we didn't see whales or bears (but those came later in the week for us and we were very early in the season) but we saw lots of eagles (one VERY close up) but the key factor was our guide, Carson. He is brilliant - he knows everyone and everything about the area. He was brought up here and is now around 60 and has worked locally all his life. He even built the centre at the Totem Pole site - and knew everyone there, of course. The local knowledge and anecdotes he could add were the key factor in loving this trip so much.
