      Expensive Plane Ride
I found this rather expensive for what it was. Yes, it was great taking off and landing on the water. Once in the air, there was not really that much to see. The pilot gave us some commentary on the history of the area where you get views of the wooded hills and fjords. If you are lucky, you might see some whales.

      Highlight of our Cruise!!
Booked through Ruby Princess and was not disappointed. The flight over was amazingly beautiful. When we arrived at the landing point in Neets Bay we had a greeting committee of a mama and her cub and another bear scavenging for salmon on the beach. We were able to watch them for a bit before walking a short distance on a forest trail past the salmon hatchery to the main viewing platforms. At the viewing platforms we were able to view 2 different bears fishing in the river for salmon. We were also able to see a couple of eagles.

Wait on hot shuttle to be cancelled.
Cancelled after waiting in hot shuttle bus. Arrived at dock at 10am. Did extended checkin on shuttle bus with no ventilation, drove to terminal, sat on hot bus again to find flight canceled due to mechanical problems. Another ride on hot bus back to the boat. Understand they can have mechanical problems but they should have been able to tell us at the ship where we had a chance to make an alternative arrangement. Instead, whole day is blown.

      Otter or Beaver?
I took a Float trip to Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island for business. Due to poor weather, this was my fourth attempt. Taquan very graciously rescheduled 3-times without charging me. The pilots are experienced, and the de Havilland plane float planes are in great condition. No white knuckles here.

Float Plane ride over the Misty Fjords
Nice flight, but difficulty hearing the pilot's narration as the headphones did not work well, but the views are always breathtaking....we were fortunate for good weather.

      Amazing
We took the flight to the Tongas rainforest to see bears fishing for salmon. The flight was great and our guide to the viewing platform was knowledgeable and friendly. We came across a bear on the path, Mark calmly made sure we stayed safe. The sight of a bear with a salmon was truly wonderful.

Best trip of entire land trip and cruise
We took the floatplane to see the black bears catching salmon in the Tongass National Forest early September 2019. We had already done a similar trip to the Misty Fjords eight years previously. I just want to say how great Ed, the pilot and Mark, the guide were when we took the float plane to see the bears catching salmon this time. Mark spotted three whales and pointed them out - he made the flight a real adventure both ways and was polite but funny. We took different routes each way. Mark was great, especially when there were no bears at the site when we arrived. He spotted them arriving so we could watch their progress to the river. He was Enthusiastic and informative, even at the end of the season. This was our favourite trip after 9 days travelling around Alaskan lodges (including Denali) and a week on the ship. Thanks guys!

Fantastic from start to finish. Smooth take off and landing and our pilot gave us a good commentary of the environment we were flying over.

We had a beautiful day which helped. Our pilot, Jake, was fantastic. Take off and landing was very smooth and the sites were breathtaking. Totally worth the money and our time. Would do it again in a heartbeat!!

      Fun.
We visited Ketchikan and did the seaplane excursion with Taquan Air Tours only about a month after a couple of highly publicized accidents involving the company in the summer of 2019. Even though the accidents occurred in close succession, it is important to understand how many of these excursions the company flies each day, each month, each year when no such accidents occur, and to consider how many automobile accidents happen daily on the interstate within just a few miles of ones home, or even at a nearby intersection, I think that the excursions do come with an element of danger, but not a ton more than driving to work each day. It seemed to me that our pilot knew his job very well, and that the plane was well-maintained, and that every precaution was taken to ensure a safe flight and landings. Having said that, this was, of course Ketchikan, Alaska, and the estuary/bay where we took off did have a small number of logs floating around that posed a potential danger during take off and landing, due to sometimes being visible only at the last moment. In fact, out of concern whether we may possibly have clipped one such log during take off, our pilot requested another pilot who took off shortly after us to fly by our right side to visually affirm that that the pontoon on that side had not taken any damage that might affect landing, which in fact it had not. During the flight to Misty Fjords, the scenery was beautiful, and it was fun to land in one of the bays there and step out onto one of the pontoons for photos, which the pilot happily took for us. In my opinion, all of the best adventures involve at least an element of danger, and the choice taken to avoid one perceived danger is all too often the choice that leads to a different totally unexpected accident, due to an overly-comfortable illusion of safety/security. This excursion was one of our trips highlights. We enjoyed it a lot, and believe most visitors would, too.

Amazing Seaplane ride and breathtaking views of Misty Fjords
My wife and I booked our tour to Misty Fjords through Princess Cruise. I had mixed feeling about the tour because we could only get space on the first flight out of the day and I was not sure if we would be able to see much in Misty Fjords. There is a reason it is called MISTY Fjords. Ketchikan is surrounded by rain forest and it rains there all the time. We were told that if there are clouds our flight might not happen. When our cruise ship reached Ketchikan it was party cloudy. The forecast had slight chance of showers. Well by the time we boarded the small 6 seater seaplane sun had come out. It was our first time in a seaplane. Taking off from water was an interesting experience. Our pilot was experienced and knowledgeable about the area and shared interesting information through the whole flight. However, there were no microphones in our headset. so we could only hear our pilot but could not ask him questions. The headset were old also and at times there were lot of noise. The experience would have been much better if we had better (newer) headphones with microphones. By the time we reached the fjords, the clouds and mist had cleared and the views were breathtaking. Our pilot flew the plane low enough through the fjords to really enjoy the spectacular scenery. We landed at a remote spot in the fjords and stepped out of the seaplane for about 5 to 10 mins. On the way back, our flight path was different than the one we took flying in to the Misty Fjords. We saw many bald eagles. Overall an enjoyable experience in a seaplane.

Neets Bay Bears - Experience of a lifetime!
What an amazing experience! I will admit I was more than a little nervous about this excursion. My husband and I were on an Alaskan cruise to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We decided to splurge and purchased the excursion with Tiquan Air to take us to Neets Bay to view bears. It was the hightlight of our trip for sure!! Our pilot, Jake, took extra effort to make me feel comfortable and safe in the plane. After a beautiful and smooth flight we landed at a remote location and was met by our guide Mark. Mark was AWESOME! He is the "perfect guide". Mark obviouly has a gift for educating people about the Alaskan wilderness and bears, and no doubt he loves his job. He took us to the most beautiful overlook so we could see bears feeding. I noticed that Mark was constantly surveying the area and making sure we were safe. At one point one of the bears came ONTO THE VIEWING PLATFORM with us! I watched as Mark slowly positioned himself so that he stood between us and the bear all the while letting us know that he was going to keep us safe. The bear trotted off up the trail that Mark led us on down to the platform. If one is traveling in this area of Alaska - this tour is a must! It is amazing and worth every penny!

Fantastic Way to see a Beautiful Country
This was my first time in a seaplane but it was the most fantastic experience of my life. The plane is big enough for 6 passengers and the pilot, with good views out of the windows regardless of where you are sitting. Our pilot,Jake, was very courteous and helpful and explained everything to us in a relaxed manner which put me at ease. Music was played on our journey that enhanced the experience greatly. There was a stop off at a jetty in the middle of the fjords where we were lucky enough to see otters at play. Then we flew back on a different route.

On 7/25/2023 we took the Misty Fjords flight seeing tour. There were a total of 8 passengers on a well maintained DHC-3.

The best I can say is that Taquan Air completely mailed it in. For the price it should have been significantly better. Buyer beware and spend your valuable money on other activities.

The total cost for all 8 was close to $3,000 for which we got a seaplane flight that fell well short of how it was hyped by the cruise line or on Taiwan Air’s site.

We expected that there would be narration by the pilot pointing out landmarks and notable features. The pilot didn’t utter a single word after boarding. Instead there was a cheesy pre-recorded narration that was spotty and difficult to understand. Passengers shouldn’t ask, “ are we at the Misty Fjords”.

The pilot, although clearly proficient, was going through the motions and was clearly disinterested in anything except for talking to his fellow pilots in the radio.

This was the only regrettable experience of the 2-week Alaskan experience. Don’t do it!!!

We had a great trip out on the floatplane. We had to reschedule due to cloudy weather. I appreciate that they really wanted us to be safe and have an enjoyable experience. Our pilot was great and was able to give us informational commentary on the trip. We flew over amazing landscapes and mountains and landed on the water near Misty Fjord. We were able to get out there and take pictures of the amazing scenery.

We booked this tour through Disney Cruise. We were transported from our ship to the sea planes by shuttle, just a short ride. We were loaded in the plane by size for balance. My son was in the co-pilot seat. Can't take very good pictures in this seat, though. The plane is hard to get in for us big people, but we managed. Everyone is friendly and the pilot informative of what we were seeing. We were provided headphones for communication. The flight was fun but a little bumpy. This is a unique experience we will not forget. I would recommend taking a bottle of water with you. The hour long tour was just the right amount of time. The tight quarters makes it hard to see out other windows.

The take off and landing from the water was different and the sites were ok. BUT, no pilot narration… in fact he didn’t speak after takeoff once. There was a bogus recorded voice that intermittently cam I’ve the headphones to point out a couple things about a few areas. TOTAL RIP-OFF. We should have asked for a refund. There were four of us. 1500+ for a quick hour tour of some ok mountains. Research before paying.

We booked tour months ago for our first Alaskan Cruise. Had been told seaplane tour was incredible and not to be missed. We arrived dockside at meeting place. Had to wait 15 minutes past scheduled pick up. Then when bus didn't arrive, operator liasion asked us to sit down it would be another 10 minutes. Then they asked us to walk to to different cruise terminal as the bus was still on way and it would be easier for driver to pick us up there. Someone asked about what if couldn't walk that far. Said could make the driver come, but would take longer. We got to the next cruise ship and bus wasn't there yet. When it arrived, the bus unloaded some passengers. Driver was talkative but not about Ketchikan or Alaska. He said we were lucky because he had left passengers at station to come get us. Laughed about it and said they'd have to wait. Arrived at station to find out that one plane was taken to the hangar due to mechanical issues. Asked for six volunteers. After rearranging dinners for some passengers, we were told they would go on 5:30 flight. Okay, then we were told by Tiger that he needed two more volunteers because if weight limitations. We volunteered as other remaining passengers were celebrating or had second tours. We were told we would go at 3:30. After group was called for boarding, Tiger said it was the 4:00 departure. Why he lied inexplainable. When I asked him why he lied, he said that was "tour" time. He said he couldn't control the planes and he couldn't control the FAA safety regulations. Said if we had booked directly, he would be able to do something, but since we booked with cruise line, he couldn't compensate us for the wasted day. Still waiting for the tour. Will post if we ever make it to the seaplane.

My husband is a pilot and we love flying no matter the type or size of the airplane. This was our first floatplane flight ever and it totally exceeded our expectations. We were with four other passengers and were comfortable and secure. Our pilot was a retired air line pilot so anyone who worries about the experience of the pilot-relax, he had thousands of hours of flight time. We took off and flew right past our cruise ship and then headed for Misty Fjords National Monument. Our pilot had a perfect balance of commentary and quiet, accompanied by a great playlist for our time aloft. The scenery was beautiful-rugged mountains, pristine lakes, lush forests, and waterfalls. We flew past an eagle soaring-amazing! We landed on a lake in the middle of the mountains, stood out on the pontoons for a bit, reboarded and then took-off again. Our flight was about an hour and we would have been happy to stay up longer! We look forward to returning to Ketchikan and doing this again and maybe staying in a cabin for a week or so!! Thank you Taquan Air!

We booked this tour through our cruise ship at the last minute and we re all so glad we did. We were nervous about being on a small plane, but the pilot was reassuring and we did something we will probably never get a chance to do again. Thrilling! It was worth the money.

I was as facinated by the float plane as the magnificient views in Misty Fjords NM. Dave was an excellent pilot. Smooth takeoffs and landings. The weather was clear. The water in we flew over was glass smooth in places. The cascades were so beautiful. I was a facinated by the plane, a six seat Beaver. The controls were simple. Dave explained them. We flew about 80-85 knots. Dave was often talking with other pilots in the area. I did not want the flight to end. I could have flown for hours at the slow pace and beautiful scenery. This was one of the best flights of my life.
