A beautiful day in Ketchikan. From the first moment with Colt, he stimulated enthusiasm for the excursion. He is infectious and knowledgeable. Thank you, Colt, for a lovely day on the lake!
Ed, the bus driver was a hoot. Kept us entertained the whole trip. Loved the echo!

After a couple of days at sea, this was a good way to stretch out. It was a beautiful day out on Lake Harriet Hunt and the guides were very well versed, very informative. The paddling was a breeze and the hike was a little too short but, all in all, a great time was had by all. The salmon snack near the end was delicious!

This excursion far exceeded the description and we were pleasantly surprised. We first of all got a nice ride on a coach bus to the private lake deep in the Tongass National Forest. The lady who drove the bus was a wealth of knowledge and we learned a lot on the ride, along with some laughs as she had a fun sense of humor. When we got to the lake we were taken away by the beauty of being so remote and seeing the mountains and trees that surrounded this beautiful, private lake. We were fortunate enough to have Cole as our guide! He was so patient, and seemed so happy to be doing what the was doing. The wealth of knowledge he had was impressive. Guides like him are what make these that much more memorable. Such a fun and relaxing experience!!

If I was just rating on the quality of our guide and the delicious snack, this would be a 5/5. However, we were disappointed with this excursion and would not recommend.

The description is a little misleading. We thought we’d have some opportunity to see wildlife, though as soon as we got on the bus we were informed this would not be the case as not much wildlife is at this location. The carnivorous plant is probably cooler to see later on in the season, but when we went (late May), it was smaller than the size of a thumb nail.

The nature walk is good-hearted, and our guide, Colt, was incredibly knowledgeable about the forest and the different quirks. Probably great for kids. Not much that you can’t see walking into a local forest though.

The huge upside was Colt’s enthusiasm and passion for the area. It was contagious and we’re very appreciative to him.

Every person in your group is in the same canoe, so paddling can be difficult, especially when there are people who have never canoed before.

Overall, this experience can be had pretty much anywhere that has a small lake. Pass if you want something a little more true to Alaska/Ketchikan.

Bumpy road ride, almost no intro to the history of Alaska. Lake is serene, but local nature guide lacks nature knowledge and the forest walk was less then 5 min. Pretty disappointed at thr nature interpretation. Canoe ride was present and snak was good . But would not recommend .

After being on a cruise ship with 2000 people it was lovely to get out into the wilderness. About a 45 minute drive outside Ketchikan took us through wooded scenery to Harriet Hunt lake where we met Jesus and Doran our guides. After donning life jackets and picking up our paddles we climbed aboard. The paddling was very gentle, I'm not even sure that everyone took part. Doran was full of information about the lake and it's flora and amusing as well. We stopped on an island where Chuck had prepared a spread of,smoked salmon pate, bread, berry jam, clam chowder, coffee and hot chocolate, all very tasty. Before getting back in the canoe Doran took us on a nature walk pointing out more plants and trees. This was an ideal tour as we still had plenty of time back in Ketchikan to explore on our own.Highly recommended.

We had a blast! Doran was an outstanding guide. He was able to frame Lake Harriet Hunt and the Tongass Forest in a wonderful historical and ecological context and do so in an intelligent and entertaining way. We came away with an absolute appreciation for these untouched gems. Would gladly recommend this excursion to any and all!

It started with an engaging bus trip to the site. (Potties are available for one last pit stop before boarding your canoe.) I hope I remember the name of our guide correctly...Tyler (who had just graduated from Gonzaga) met us and got us ready for our trip. He was patient and helpful with getting my Mom in the canoe. She has limited mobility but he took his time to make sure she got in and out of the canoe easily. He was a wealth of knowledge about the area and what we were seeing. And he was funny too. It's a beautiful place! Our canoe trip took us into the Tongass National Forest where a yummy snack of homemade salmon dip, jelly, bread, chowder, coffee, and hot chocolate were waiting for us. It was all very good! We then took a nature walk within the Tongass and it was beautiful. I wanted to see more. Canoe trip back was fun and worth the sore muscles the next day.

Book this adventure...you won't regret it!

My wife (who is not a swimmer) and I went on this excursion. The tour guide, a young lady named Dakota, was an excellent guide. The canoeing was not too difficult with the other 4 couples. It was somewhat rainy and cool, but if you layer and wear appropriate clothing the weather won't matter. We had very good food (clam chowder, coffer, hot chocolate, etc.) and the nature walk was very informative. I highly recommend this tour.

We took this excursion as part of our Alaskan Cruise. We enjoyed the idea of a canoe trip on the lake and then a short hike learning about the flora and fauna of the area, and this tour totally came through with what was promised. Our guide Doran made this a memorable part of our vacation. He was a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm about the area and its history, and he kept us laughing with his jokes. It's clear he has a passion for what he does. Lake Harriet Hunt is full of beauty and really captures what Ketchikan is.
