Juneau Private Tours by David Harman
In August of 2024, my husband and I toured w David Harman’s Juneau Private Tours on what was only 1 of 30-35 sunny days in Juneau. He was our guide himself. It was a stellar tour and we recommend him to anyone. We were in port on a cruise ship and could have taken a complementary tour but my husband had just finished radio-surgery for lung cancer and I didn’t want him to be plagued w 10 other travelers.
David’s communication was timely and helpful. We were so comfortable just communicating long distance with him, we felt like he was an old friend. In fact, we invited his wife to join us for the tour and dinner afterwards as our guests. She had a conflict and my husband was done, (as in stick a fork in him,) when the tour concluded, so it worked out though.
We had a few specific places we wanted to visit and David graciously worked them in. He stopped when requested, for us to, “flatten our bladders,” and “round them out again” with cold bottled water along the way.
He gifted us a package of fudge, from the Alaskan Fudge Company on South Franklin Street in Juneau. Delicious stuff, which we loved so much, we wished we’d have been up to going to the shop near the wharf to buy more to take home to our friends.
David Harman of Juneau Private Tours is an experienced and thoughtful host, who quietly ensured my husband was comfortable, but didn’t feel like he was given special attention for being frail.
We saw amazing creatures in their natural habitat and learned much from his exceptional knowledge and vignettes that brought the city, the Alaskan Rain Forest, the glaciers, the lifestyles of the locals, and the native peoples, to us with a deeper knowledge than we expected.
He knew where to pull off to get incredible photographs and offered to take them for us. As I flipped through those pictures from from our day there, my husband laughed over and over as I stopped on several and commented on how stunning the scene was, or how perfect the light was caught, and how clean the perspectives were. Then I’d state, “Oh, David took that one.”
He has an avocation and future as a photographer that will match anyone showing in any gallery around the world.
We were thrilled that we had him and no other guests on our tour. With the time saved by not de-boarding and rebording a crowd, he was able to take around the sites to give us a view others on our ship did not get to see.
We could not have put a price on what the tour was worth to us. It was the highlight of our cruise and we look forward to returning to Juneau to see him and new sights again.
We heartily recommend him to any travelers, e. g., young families, elderly people, groups traveling together; and do so without reservation.

We had some definite sticker shock with some of the other excursion prices, and it felt so limiting to only pick one or two things. Dave drove us around to all of the best places in Juneau for a great price and was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, stopping often to let us take photos. He also has a great eye for wildlife and pointed out some critters we would have never noticed - a black bear, deer, a marmot, and TONS of bald eagles! It felt just like a friend who lives in another city takes you around to all the cool spots, very low key and great to get away from the crowds. We left Juneau feeling so lucky we got to see so much of this beautiful place!! Highly recommend Dave.

This private tour was a highlight of our Alaska trip. Our driver/guide David was able to adjust pickup and drop off places and times to fit our schedule for the hours between disembarkation from our small ship and our arrival at the airport for our flight out. He kept the pace suitable for our abilities and interests and provided fascinating information about history, culture, and nature. We saw and learned so much. Highly recommend this experience.

David was an amazing guide. He was patient with our group and very flexible with his itinerary to fit our needs. He is very knowledgeable and knows ALL the stories about the sites we visited. He was actively engaged in explaining the different vegetations and the local special spots along the way (LOVE THE MINIONS!!!). This was a very easy excursion even for those with walking aids. Thank you for a wonderful tour which gave our family a very memorable experience.

Fun experience for Juneau excursions. We have a party of 5. So it worth it to have a private tour rather than bus tour, which costs about $130 each. David was a very nice and knowledgeable guide. I learned a lot about Juneau’s culture, wildlife, and scenery. We went to all the places on the itinerary except for the glacier park, due to flood closure unfortunately. But David still managed to drop us off at the nearest trail end, so we could walk to a view point to snap some pictures. The tour started and ended on time. David actually gave us extra time but still no risk of missing our cruise.

We loved our 11-passenger van tour! We arrived at the Juneau port and most of our cruise excursions were cancelled due to rainy weather, so we were pretty bummed. This afternoon tour made our day! We saw some highlights around town and went to the chapel to look for whales. The sky cleared and we were able to enjoy some sun and whale watching. We stopped on the way back to the port and tried to get a glimpse of Mendenhall glacier, but it was too foggy/rainy. We all got back in the van and then our tour guide noticed that the sky had cleared a bit. He sent us quickly back out to the point and we had about a one minute chance to view the glacier. Without his experienced eye, we would have missed out! We loved the tour and would recommend this company to anyone wanting a taste of Juneau!

It was raining and the town was packed with passengers from the cruise ships so we were more than glad to hop on this private tour to venture out of Juneau town.
Dave was fantastic and provided us a lot of info on Alaska and the wildlife. We love the grounds of Shrine of St Therese, it was so peaceful and beautiful. We spotted bald eagles, wild salmons, marmot etc. Unfortunately weather was bad and we couldn't view the glacier but Dave drove us to a few scenic spots which we absolutely love. With aged parents who weren't able to walk far, this tour took us to places which we otherwise wouldn't be able to see on our own. Do note this is a road trip, not some 'action-packed' itinerary tour. So just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Top Notch. We felt as if we were visiting an old friend who took us to secret local places.
Dave was a great conversationalist, who was knowledgeable and great at avoiding touchy subjects (my travel companions like to chat politics etc) he was grand at redirecting them with diplomacy.
We went to a couple of places and despite there being 4 cruise ships at port, we never found a crowd, much less 3-4 other people at our stops.
I cannot express how much all three of us enjoyed this tour.

This tour was amazing! Our guide was a very experienced local who knew all the cool and interesting spots to go to AND he was able to tell us stories about all our stops! Loved it! We saw glaciers, whales, salmon running, eagles along the shoreline and a BEAR EATING SALMON! Kudos to this guy, so nice and polite and knowledgeable! I wish we had gotten his name. Since it was a private tour he would stop anywhere we wanted to get photos, the van was very comfortable, easy in and out and it was a great way to get to know more about Juneau without 20 other people hanging about. Loved it. Private tours all the way for us now.

My two sisters and I were looking for something fun to do in Juneau that was accessible since 2 of us use walkers. The weather was foggy and raining but Dave was an excellent tour guide! He got us out of the tourist trap and showed us the beauty of Alaska. We found dear, eagles, squirrels, waterfalls, parks and nature and history we could never have imagined in town. Sadly no glaciers or whales but the others from our cruise missed out too thanks to Mother Nature but we were warm and enjoyed the experience! Dave was amazing and this is great if you have any trouble with walking.
Scooters and wheelchairs don’t work but walkers do fine! Thanks Dave!

Would this also include a stop at the Whale Statue for pictures? Are admission to the glacier/hatchery included?
