      Memories were Made!!!
Had an amazing time with ChumFun! Family owned/run and perfect for those who have a few hours to do some fishing without having to jump on a boat/float plane and burn a day/ton's of cash! Located maybe 5 minutes from downtown Juneau and they come and pick you up right at the docs or even possibly hotel as they did for us! Your fishing within 10 minutes and they supply everything from rod/reel/tackle and even rain gear. They worked with our children to get them up to speed and had them casting like pro's in no time. We hit a couple spots and caught Salmon/bottom fish at both places. A hatchery tour comes with the experience and is very impressive/informative---super cool! Afterwards they cleaned/prepped the fish (eagles took care of the scraps as they're all over the property!) and sent it to a packing house to be shipped home to us when we get back. Can't recommend them enough, Paul and Michelle are the best!

Learn about AK salmon and try your hand at the sport with an amazing and knowledgeable Alaska born and bread family!
We met Chum Fun at the port for the last tour of the day. The fog had lifted and the tide was coming in. We enjoyed a guided ride from the port to their dock where we filled out forms for fishing licenses. They had loaner sunglasses and wind breakers, which were handy. The day was warm but the sun and wind were strong. From there we took the a minute ride to the hatchery and received a guided tour provided by Chum Fun, where we learned about the salmon and other underwater wildlife. I wasn’t necessarily looking forward to this component, but was pleasantly surprised. After about 30 minutes, we returned to the Chum Fun dock and began to fish. The dock was very large and spacious. Our family of four was on this excursion with four other people and there was enough space for everyone. After a brief overview of the best way to fish, we each took a rod and began to cast. I was impressed by the equipment, which was different than the rod I was accustomed to. After about 15 minutes, each had perfected their cast and reel techniques, actions that were complicated by the wind and water speeds. My son, who is the primary fisherman and experienced a shoulder injury a few days beforehand, did not last the entire time allotted for fishing. As he began to fade, we followed him to a nice area set up for bonfires with cozy seating. He needed to head back to rest and an Uber wasn’t handy. One of the family staffers, realizing he wasn’t comfortable and we were attempting to get back offered to transport us before the designated time. We accepted and were thankful for this unplanned additional service. The family is lovely and caring, in addition to being wonderful hosts.

      Fantastic Experience!
Amazing company! Although we didn’t catch the salmon we came for we all had a great time. The experience from what to book to booking to the fishing activity we all had the “Best” experience. Love how michelle was super nice on the phone, how responsive she was. Her husband Paul and family member Noah taking us out fishing. We had a family of 9 people from 12yrs age to 50 and all had the best time. Would totally recommend them.

      Great Experience, Fantastic Company
A great family owned and operated business! Seriously, these people are so kind and fun and knowledgeable- it was a great experience! I was nervous nervous about missing the meet up spot (I’m known to be poor with directions) so I called a few hours before meet up to confirm and Michelle was so helpful and kind. Premium customer service! I had so much fun! Fishing was fun and much easier than I expected, a perfect activity while taking in the sights and seal sightings.

      excellent, friendly, funny
we enjoyed our guide and even though we didn't catch anything, the tour of the hatchery was very interesting and educational and we got to fish with seals waiting for a catch of their own.

Absolutely Worthwhile Whether You're a Beginner or Expert
We booked Chum Fun for the salmon hatchery tour and shoreside salmon fishing through Princess in Sept 2019. I was expecting it to be crowded and impersonal. In reality it was a small group, personalized and I was very pleased with the quality of the experience. The excursion description doesn't do it justice. Paul the owner was our tour guide and he was personable, helpful and experienced. He spent time teaching me how to fish, while just giving my expert fisherman husband a few tips on his technique so hubby could just run with it. We both had a great time and I highly recommend that you check Chum Fun out. Thanks Paul for a great experience and a couple of fish to brag about !

Great fun even if we didn't catch any salmon.
We booked this on short notice for 3 of us. Paul and Michele were wonderful and very helpful. Paul took us to shore fish. My wife never used an open face reel before so Paul patiently taught her what to do. She learned quickly. We had a great time, Paul was very informative. We saw salmon jumping all over the place, but unfortunately, we didn't catch any salmon. I was nice to be able to be active in the fishing rather than sitting on a boat waiting for something to happen. I would recommend this to anyone.

      Best Excursion of our trip!
We found out about Paul during a whale watch excursion from one of the mates on the boat. When we got back to shore, my friend and I called Chum Fun to see if we could get in on a trip that day. The office staff said that the last charter had gone out already but they took our number and said they would call us back. Five minutes later the phone rang and it was Paul himself (the owner!) offering to come and pick us up for a few hours of fishing before our ship left port. Paul picked us up at the dock and took us back to the shop to fill out the paperwork and get us outfitted. The fishing was amazing. Plenty of fish between my friend Joe and I. Certainly more than we could have asked for. We are still talking about this last minute excursion. Totally unplanned and worth every penny of it. Can't say enough good things about Paul and his company. I wish him the best and will certainly look him up when we get back there in a few years! Thank you Paul!

      Our Best Excursion in Alaska
We got picked up right on time by Tom, his daughter Courtney, and Evan. They took us to the salmon hatchery and gave us a very informative tour of the facilities and showed us all the help the place does for the salmon population. The tour really gave us a nice perspective before we went over to the small dock to fish. At the dock, we met up with Paul and the whole crew got us outfitted with rods and reels. They were very patient in teaching us newbies on how to fish this particular waterway. After about ten minutes our group started landing large chum salmons. It was a total thrill to see my 11 year old son battling the resilient chums and he had THE BEST time holding them and then releasing them back in to the water. It was my wife's first time fishing and she was landing the biggest ones in the group. We were fortunate to run into Paul later on in the day and it was an honor to talk with him about life and family. The whole crew were just good, honest people and that's who you want fishing by your side. At the end of our Alaska trip my son was asked by several people what was his favorite memory. We had driven speed boats in Ketchikan, flown on helicopters & rode sleds in Juneau, and went rafting in Segway but he always answered that salmon fishing with the Chum Fun crew was his favorite.

      great option for families
This is a great time! Paul is very patient and kind with novice fishers, and is great with kids too. No boat rides to make you sea sick, no gear to pack and no stomping around in waders. Walk out on the pier, cast your rod into the water and catch fish. Everyone in the group caught at least one fish, and a great time was had by all.

      Fun Times!
I’ve lived in Alaska since 1993 and have fished many ways and have had many charters, Chum Fun was like no other. First off, Paul & Michelle are wonderful people and hard working Alaskans! They are why I love Alaska. Down to earth and true, genuine folks! We fished from the dock and it was a great time. We landed chum and some king salmon. The fish were jumping all over the place. We had some friends up from Michigan and they had a great time fishing. We met some people in our group and they were great too. Great value for the money and they provided boots, rain gear and all the fishing gear, not many others do that at all. We will be back for the coho run later this summer. Thank you for a great time! Shore Fishing
Tom and his daughter Courtney were a lot of fun. They took us to the salmon ladder which was super cool to see, and Tom told us about the process. The hatchery was closed which I was disappointed about - it wasn't Chum's fault, but the cruise excursion info really should have told us that if you went on the last excursion of the day that you won't get to go into the hatchery. Tom is a great guide. We fished off the dock and several of us had trouble hooking the fish, but Tom caught them in 1-2 casts and let us reel them in which is way harder than I would have expected. Doing it that way we all got to catch a fish! Courtney is a cute, sweet kid. I enjoyed talking to her though she was trying to help my daughter a bit too much given her age and frustrated a couple of the adults in the group. The fishing equipment wasn't exactly top of the line, but like I said, it seemed to be no issue for Tom who hooked fish easily. One other note that the cruise excursion desk didn't tell us - we were really hoping to take home some salmon and while we caught several big fish we didn't realize that in that area and at that time of year the fish we were catching wouldn't be worth keeping to eat. Tom said that Chum salmon ready to spawn are mushy and won't cook well. He explained that locals use them for dog food. So....we threw everything back and came away with some cool pics, but no fish to take home. Again...not Chum's fault, but worth noting here b/c we really wished we'd have known before booking.

      Chum Fun is Some Fun!
We had a great time with Chum Fun! My 13 year old daughter really wanted to fish for salmon but I get horribly seasick. We booked this not knowing wholly what to expect except the reviews were great and I wouldn't have to go on a boat. We ended up having an absolute blast. She caught a ton of salmon! The crew was knowledgeable, fun, and helpful. In addition, there was an older veteran with some mobility issues in our group and they went out of their way to make sure he was safe and had fun in a way that wasn't patronizing or obtrusive. I would recommend this to just about anyone!

What a great experience! Michelle was so sweet and kind. Thanks again for squeezing me into the group! I was a solo fisher in town from a cruise. Michelle connected with me before I arrived to make sure I was all set and knew what to do when I arrived. She also connected with me the day of, when I needed to be updated on the meeting point. First class and VIP treatment all the way from Michelle!

My guide was JP. He was so great! Very relaxed and completely made me feel like family. He knows his stuff and makes sure you have an amazing time!

Great family run business. If I'm ever back, you know I'm going here!

Great fun for our family (kids and adults). Derek and Noah (guides) were excited, attentive, and all around awesome. We were there in mid July. Snagged chum, which we released as one does. Caught a king, but season was paused so couldn't keep. Overall a great adventure. The youngest called it "fish-tastic"!

Late review but we LOVED our experience in August 2022. We were visiting on the Radiance of the Seas. Very easy pick up and drop off; they even scooted the entire reservation up 30 minutes to help accommodate us getting back to the ship. We unfortunately didn't catch any fish but still had an excellent time.

Six of us had signed up for a fishing charter with Chum Fun Charters 8,17,22 out of Juneau during our recent Alaska cruise in August. Our ship was coming in late so the owners did modify our starting time. I made it very clear to Paul, the owner, upon booking that we did not want to visit the Hatchery which was part of the tour because we have done it before. I was told that this would not be an issue and we did not have to make this stop. As soon as we loaded into the van, JP the tour guide, had told us that another individual was added to our tour and highly stressed no more than three times the importance of the Hatchery Tour. The new person added to the tour was not interested in visiting the Hatchery either. All guests felt pressured with his insistence.

Unfortunately, two of our party had to cancel last minute for health reasons. The tour operators did not express any concern what-so-ever despite the fact that their fee had already been paid.

The tour guide never asked names of 3 individuals in our party. I had suggested 2 spots to fish at that I had been successful at before, however, was dismissed by the guide. We started fishing on-site at a small dock where the water was muddy and the dock space was congested for the 5 of us.

Later we moved to another location within a 2 minute drive away. We had to walk down over steep rocks which led us to a small point where there were at least 100 dead salmon that gave off a putrid odor. Dying fish were swimming all around. This area was also very muddy and had lots of seaweed. Not a great fishing or scenic area by no means. The guide was reluctant to relocate to a better location. He offered limited assistance to the 2 novice fisherman that were with us. What he was for dinner seemed to be more important than concerns of his guests.

Needless to say, I will never use this company for a fishing tour again. These complaints are only some of the major issues. Again, I have fished this area with an other tour company and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. I would not recommend this company to others or any cruise line.
