About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Phillip M0 contributionsBook this for sure Helicopter and Glacier TourHelicopter tour is A Must Do Adventure!!!! Great experience, pilot and staff were extremely nice. Views are amazing from both sky and on glacier.Written September 8, 2024
- hbhakh0 contributionsGreat experienceWe have visited Alaska several times. Looking for something new, we decided to try the helicopter tour. We made our reservation through Alaska Shore Excursions. It was easy and they provided all of the relevant information. As we approached Juneau aboard a cruise ship, the weather was poor and we thought our trip might be canceled (the ship tours did). Fortunately, the weather cleared as the day progressed. The representative from Coastal Helicopters met us near the pier and advised that the conditions were good. He took us to the airport where we were issued ice boots and briefed on the flight. The staff were efficient and very nice. Our helicopter held 6 passengers. It was a tight fit but fairly comfortable. The pilot was very good. He not only flew the aircraft but gave us a commentary as we flew over Juneau and the glacier. The landing was very smooth and we had about 20 minutes on the glacier. Our pilot acted as a guide and pointed out a number of things we were seeing and made sure everyone was safe. The flight back was very smooth. The staff shuttled us back to downtown very promptly. While the flight and landing are fairly short, we thought the opportunity to see the great views from the helicopter as well as the chance to walk on the glacier was a great experience. We highly recommend Coastal HelicoptersWritten September 8, 2024
- robertlZ4319QR0 contributionsGreat tour / Great Great guidesAmazing tour.... must if you're in Alaska. It's a once in a lifetime experience. From the very start all the staff were really helpful and interactive. Our pilot spend lots of time talking and answering questions while out of the helicopter on the glacier. I highly recommend this trip. Felt the company was well prepared and well informed. Don't miss this experience.Written September 6, 2024
- Stleonardmom0 contributionsAmazing experience!Very well organized. Excellent pilot who was super helpful in pointing out how to safely explore the glacier. Dress warmly, but don’t worry about boots as they provide boots for walking on the glacier that fit right over your shoes. Flight was smooth with beautiful views. Well worth the price for this once in a lifetime experience!Written September 2, 2024
- MelissaM38470 contributionsThe Most Amazing Experience Ever!!!!!My family did the Icefield Excursion with Coastal Helicopters on 8/16/2024. It was amazing beyond words!! If you are reading this review and considering booking with Coastal, just do it! I did extensive research before booking with Coastal Helicopters. I looked at several other companies and excursions before we booked with Coastal. I also researched Herbert Glacier and knew that it was the glacier I wanted us to experience! Coastal had great customer reviews, and I really felt confident booking with them. From start to finish, the whole experience was perfect! Every coastal employee we interacted with was friendly and helpful, and they all seemed to enjoy working for Coastal! You could tell by they way they acted and interacted with the customers. The helicopter experience was incredibly! It was a smooth, beautiful ride with incredible views! Our pilot was Nick. He was very friendly and informative during our flight and during the time on the glacier. He gave us great information and answered our questions. He also spent a good amount of time talking to my teenage son, who wants to fly helicopters as a career. This was the most amazing experience! We will remember this day forever! Thank you, Coastal Helicopters!!Written September 1, 2024
- suekU6742ZR0 contributionsOnce in a life timeMy Husband and I were planning an Alaska trip for our anniversary. This excursion did not let us down. It was wonderful! Breath taking views from the helicopter and to say that you walked on a glacier! It was a great experience. The ride on the dog sled wasn’t long but it was fun.Written August 22, 2024
- Cxs6180 contributionsBEST Excursion in Juneau! Must do for all ages, your mind will be blown!!!Excursion of a lifetime. We went on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Alaska. After reading reviews, we decided to book a trip with coastal helicopters for a helicopter tour and guided ice walk on a glacier. It exceeded our expectations! We met at the Cruise Ship port and were taken to the airport. The company was very professional, staff super friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us some special boots and we were off. We had a group of 3 kids (9,11, 14) and 3 adults. The helicopter ride to Herbert Glacier was spectacular. The glacier landing just blew our minds, the pictures don't do justice. We had some glacier water, heard the history, asked questions, and took pictures. You have no idea the size and enormity of the glacier until you land. This trip was a 10 our of 10. We will definitely go back to Juneau and will definitely book again with Costal Helicopters!!!Written August 18, 2024
- ronaldf9200 contributionsBeautiful Scenery and Fun Dog Sled RideThe view of the glacier and surrounding area was amazing. The dog sled ride was a lot of fun and Sam, our musher, was very knowledgeable and interesting to talk with.Written August 15, 2024
- HillsonHopes0 contributionsDog sledding in the snowA dream come true being on a dog sled in the snow. We had the opportunity to do dog sledding on grass but there’s nothing like the real thing. You come in by a fantastic 20 minute helicopter ride with the pilot giving you a guided tour. We were lucky enough to see moose. My husband is a very nervous flyer and the pilot gave him the heads up when it would be bumpy and why, this settled him greatly. Then you land with all the dogs and their amazing mushers and go on a ride stopping to pat the dogs it’s fantastic. Then it’s time for a 10 minute helicopter ride back it’s all wonderful. Ps they do have a weight limit but don’t weigh you.Written August 10, 2024
- jennas3260 contributionsA MUST doWhat an experience!! Just wow. From take off to landing and everything in between it was something I won’t ever forget. Our pilot gave amazing facts on a stunning flight to the glacier. (I believe his name was Nicholas). Then seeing the camp and dogsledding was phenomenal. Willoe answered all our questions and gave facts and details throughout the trip. I absolutely loved it. Experience of a lifetime.Written August 4, 2024
- Explorer383468564340 contributionsGreat views, tons of dogs, even some sleddingVery prompt trip from the port to the airport. Standard check in, weigh in, and safety video to get started. Staff was very friendly and easy to work with. They lock up personal belongings and give you boots that go over your existing shoes. You could take a phone or camera on the flight. Helicopter ride had great views of the glaciers, but our pilot didn’t have much to say. Would have appreciated more information about what we were looking at on the way to the dog sledding. Joey was our musher and was very personable. They take you on a long loop around the camp, but we (and the dogs) wanted to do more than we could. They don’t want the dogs running near the helicopters so the amount of sledding is limited. We spent more time petting the dogs than sledding. An experience we won’t forget!Written August 2, 2024
- Erin G0 contributionsUnforgettable glacier walkIncredible experience taking a helicopter to Herbert glacier. The helicopter ride was super fun, felt safe, and provided great views. The glacier walk was spectacular and it was just our small group. We know the weather doesn’t always cooperate and felt so fortunate to be able to do this - unforgettable experience. The entire staff was friendly & helpful, extremely well-organized tour.Written August 2, 2024
- MBKimmy750 contributionsTake the flight to the top!!!On our day in Juneau we took a tour with Coastal Helicopter. We had a group of 8. We chose the icefield landing tour. We were split into 2 helicopters and were promised that we would land together, this was important since we were split up. I was the unlucky one and didn't get to ride with my immediate family (son, daughter and husband) but I was put in the helicopter with 2 friends, so it was okay. Lucas and Max were our pilots and both were phenomenal. Both were knowledgeable of the area, and we were even lucky to visit a part of the glacier they had just found the day before. It was beautiful! This was the most expensive tour we did on our cruise and it was well worth the money. I would do it again in a heart beat. Big thanks to Max and Lucas for all your interaction with our crew, we had a great day.Written July 23, 2024
- joannd3830 contributionsOut of this world experience! This was an incredible experience. If you are on the fence about this experience, please go! The helicopter ride is so smooth and beautiful. Herbert glacier is incredible and you feel like the only person on the glacier. Nico, our pilot was the best! Out of this world experience, and Coastal was great, they flew on a day with cloud cover, when other tour companies cancelled. It turned out to be a great day and so appreciative of that. I booked direct with them. Pick up from town was super easy!Written July 17, 2024
- oaklet0 contributionsBucket list Dog sled on Mendenhall Glacier.Truly once in a life time opportunity!! If you are thinking about going, do it!!! Bucket list for sure. The weather was perfect. The helicopter ride was smooth and beautiful and the pilot had lots of info about the mountain ranges and glaciers. Upon landing you are mesmerized by the environment, the mountains, the snow, ice, no pictures do it justice. Incredible and awe inspiring. Our musher was so great! He let us ask any questions we had and we had such an incredible experience. The dogs were all so loving and fun. What made this tour even better was hearing the love for the dogs, and how every single item is bought up by helicopter then taken away at the end of the season. Nothing is left on the glacier. Not even the dog poo. Its an incredible story to hear. I wore a beanie, a hoodie and a rain coat and I was more comfortable. I would recommend gloves if your hands get cold! In saying that though it did get warm during the dog sled. We loved the sledding but it is a lot of hard work staying on the flimsy sled. We did nearly topple over which wasnt good but luckily between out musher the ones on the back and my hubby we righted. The sled ride is 1 kilometre, which was enough for us. Seriously, if you are debating on going, DO IT! It’s worth every cent!! Yes its an expensive tour, but will you ever get another chance on Mendenhall Glacier?Written July 16, 2024

Pickup from the ship began this exciting day. At the airport you were provided with boots to cover your foot ware. Watched a short training video and off I went. The helicopter 🚁 ride was smooth, you got your headphones and you got to see the awesome views of the glacier and the city of Juneau. Major fun flying in a helo on a clear day. I arrived on top of a glacier Wow❣️the majestic beauty of the mountains stretched as far as the eye could see. The sun came out and warmed the air all around me and lit up the sky. Our pilot was extremely knowledgeable about the glacier, its formation and properties. He spoke with such awe and passion. Our pilot located running water spots so that I was able to fill my flask with freezing cold crystal clear glacier water. After walking around the glacier for a few it was time to go dogsledding. We boarded the helicopter for some additional sites and returned to the dog sledding camp. Meg assigned me to ride with Wades team. Wade was awesome, spirit filled, a calm gentle soul who relayed that he raised his team of energetic dogs from pups. I went on an adventure, gliding through the snow with happy, energetic , playful dogs loving the snow. Next you get to hold the cutest pup new to the team. Photos were taken throughout all you had to do was ask. I spent more than enough time to take in all of God’s beauty on this majestic mountain. After several hours for the entire journey it was time to return to airport and get our van back to the cruise ship. Valerie was a patient driver and offered information about the wildlife. Once I returned to the ship I pondered on how much I enjoyed this excursion and was so impressed with every aspect of this day, I certainly recommend this excursion. This was worth every penny ($700 +) and I’d do it all over again, next time I’m in Juneau. Kudos to the Coastal team, staff on the glacier mushers and all the warm ppl I met on my journey. Ciao for now🥹🫶🏽

5/5 Bucket List Adventure!!!!
We had the greatest time. Upon arrival at Juneau, we met up at the appointment time right in downtown Juneau and checked in with the Coastal Helicopters staff. We were then picked up by a Private van and taken to Juneau Airport to Coastal’s Hanger building. We were checked in, weighed for the helicopter, shown safety videos, and fitted with Glacier boots. Each employee was more friendly and professional than the last!
We were then escorted safely outside and into the helicopter with our pilot, such a gentleman! We took off and flew and saw the beauty of Juneau on such a clear day! We were in awe of the views! We landed 10 minutes later at the dogsled camp. These dogs are so well taken care of and so happy to see you. And all they wanna do is pull, pull, pull!!!! They want to show you how strong they are! The Dog Trainers/Mushers showed us around, showed us to our sled and then we were off! An unforgettable experience.
After sledding, we took pics with the dogs and hung out with them for a bit. We were then picked up again by now a female pilot in another helicopter who took us to an iced over portion of glacier. We landed right on it. We got out and the pilot showed us all around and gave us some interesting facts about it. We got to drink fresh Glacier water and take beautiful pics again. After about a half hour on the glacier we then took off and safely returned back to Coastal HQ where we were then happily taken care of, and returned back to downtown Juneau in the van! The absolute best Excursion I have ever been on. This trip with Coastal Helicopters is worth the trip to Alaska all on its own!!

Phenomenal. Best excursion ever. Coastal Helicopters was a first class operation and the dog sledding on Herbert Glacier was the best experience ever. The second glacier landing was unique and seeing the crystal blue glacier ice was magical. I would recommend this excursion as the best in Alaska.

One of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. The helicopter ride was great but riding a sled pulled by 11 Alaskan huskies on the Mendehall Glacier was really amazing. Our musher Dobbs was very fun and enhanced the experience.

We booked directly (not through our cruise ship) and the excursion was overall seamless and enjoyable. Our party of six occupied all the seats in the helicopter. The views from the flight were amazing! We lucked out with beautiful sunny weather which I don’t believe is the norm. Our kids loved the dog sledding, taking turns as the secondary musher, and loving on the sled dogs. One downside to our experience was our family size, requiring us to be split (for the dog sledding) into one party of 4, with the remaining two combined in with another family. We would have preferred two groups of 3, since the photos will now have strangers in them. Still, we give a consensus thumbs up for this company and the adventure they provide.

Was just in Juneau & did the dog sledding excursion & additional glacier landing/tour.
Amazing excursion!
Very professional organization and feit very safe & organized and cognizant of cruisers and return time.
Dog sledding was an incredibly unique experience that's worth doing at least once. Can be very cold on the glacier - bring warm & waterproof/water resistant clothes.
The extra stop landing on the glacier was even better than the dogsledding. It does add expense, but you can't really understand glaciers until you've walked on one. Just do it!
Finally, we had a minor issue & the company did a great job solving our problem.
5 stars & would do this excursion again!

This was an awesome experience. My family and I were on an Alaskan cruise, but I self booked this excursion. From start to finish the trip was fantastic. We loved our pilot Harley and Ashley our dog sledder were the best. I loved the fact that it was not crowded at all, we had the dog camp and glacier to ourselves. I will recommend this to anyone I come in contact with.

5 Star excursion! Nico was our pilot. He drove so smoothly and really made this tour an unforgettable experience for our family. The area the dog camp was in was breathtaking, located right beside a glacier. We drank glacier water (bring an empty water bottle to put it in) and walked around an icefield. This started off our cruise vacation in the best way ever. Thank you for the incredible memory our family got to share together.

An AMAZING experience! Worth every penny and I would do it again. Very well organized from beginning to end and responsive to my messages. The crew….from the person who gathered us at port, to the driver, to the staff at the airport, the pilot and the musher….. everyone was very informative and helpful. I can’t say enough about this excursion. Definitely worth doing!! Safety was a priority and I felt 100% comfortable at all times.

Hi Thinking of booking the Juneau Helicopter Dog sledding with Extra Landing. Can anyone say approx. how long you get on glacier and about how long you get to spend with dogs and or how long you get to run with them? Understanding it is a matter of opinion: Is it better to do two trips or will this one combo be enough? Thanks
Written June 10, 2019
We took this with Coastal Helicopters. Toiled over which to take. Talked to them several times. We wAnted to see Mendenhal but wanted to do the extra landing. We were told we would still see Mendenhall and that the extra landing was great because you got to drink from a glacier pond. Disappointed. We did not see Mendenhall and our 2nd landing consisted of our pilot letting us ond that was it. No info and no glacier pond. We could see one a little ways away but she did not land by it. The sled ride was awesome but we were stopped longer than we actually were moving. I would not spend the money on the extra landing or go with a different company who didn’t give false information.
