      Lovely peaceful experience
Beautiful place … a true labor of love as the owner has to transplant the plants into the greenhouse every winter and replant them every spring. The upside down trees are especially imaginative. Your guide takes you in a cart through the forest providing nature education along the way. The view at the top is spectacular. Sone of the plants are not native to the area and the same as what we grow at home in Alabama, but overall it was a lovely experience.

      Quite fun
This was the first part of a cruise excursion, which also including Mendelhall Glacier. It's a bit of a hodgepodge - partly driving through the forest up a steep hill with some commentary, partly walking through a small landscaped garden, and partly stopping at a viewpoint over Juneau - but it was fun. The view over the Juneau and the valley extending to the north from Juneau was quite spectacular, and was the highlight for me.

      Bald eagle views, anyone?
Our visit to Glacier Gardens was part of our ship's Juneau excursion package. Once we arrived, my wife and boarded a golf cart while a guide explained the features of the Garden as we drove up several hundred feet. One of the more interesting features are the reversed trees, where the trunk was in the ground and the roots were on top. This was performed by the owner of the Garden and provided some unusual views. At the top of the mountain, we were able to see the Juneau airport. Of more interest were the flying bald eagles. I missed my chance to get a photo of an eagle up close.

      Garden trip
This is a nice place, however is is really nothing more than a ride up a mountain thru a forest in a passenger mover. The driver Bill was entertaining but a lot of lore along the way. If you have nothing else to do, this is ok

      Amazing place
What an amazing place. The view from the top of the mountain was spectacular and the commentary by our guide was informative. The upside-down trees were truly interesting and quite beautiful.

      Amazing!
This was an amazing visit! It was a testimony to the vision and work of one fine Alaskan man. Visitors ride up the mountain viewing the constructed areas and planters all the way up to a viewpoint and down again amist the natural rainforest. The vehicle carries several people and feels like a large golf cart. It is magical for garden/landscape lovers like myself. The tour ends at a visitor's center and cafe. Recommended for nature lovers.

      Well worth a visit!!
We were really looking forward to this visit off the cruise ship to this glacial garden. The entrance promised much with lots of upturned trees with flowers and the history behind why they are as they are. We then got into a buggy and were driven up some steep and windy paths with a very competent and knowledgeable driver who made us feel safe and really knew her information about the rainforest and all its surroundings. Not so much colour on the trip up and down but there were some lovely ponds with planting around. Lovely greenhouse back at the entrance with a gift shop and a coffee shop too. We enjoyed it!

Not Sure That This is a Garden
I was very disappointed with the few minutes of the tour in what I would count as a garden, which consisted of some lovely planted upturned trees and almost nothing else. The adventure part of the tour consisted of a guide driving us up to the top of the hill through the forest on a difficult, steep and winding path - sometimes with one hand as she held a coffee in the other. Some nice views at the top but disappointing overall.

Great views from the top, not much more for us here
The view from the top was great and quite a steep climb in the shuttle. Besides that and the area with the upside down tree plantings, not much here.

      Interesting Garden
This is a private garden that is unique for sure. It includes a tram ride with some very funny and interesting commentary about everything surrounding the garden

      Disappointing for the Money
I think these trees (which the owners of the garden placed upside down in the ground and did not fall in this position from the landfall) are pretty but not worth the money to get in. They have vehicles that took you on a ride through the forest but maybe only 20 trees that were placed upside down. Disappointing for the money. I would not recommend

      Beautiful garden!
It was very beautiful but you had to be in a cart the whole time which I understand why but I prefer to walk, or hike so that I can enjoy my surroundings and take all the beauty in.

      Lots of Unexpected Fun
I thought we would just be wandering through a garden, but the open vehicle transport up the mountain was a great ride. We saw beautiful views, and the upside down trees were amazing!

      It was ok!
The upside down trees are really cool! I’ve never seen anything like that before. I enjoyed the history of how the gardens came to be. I was hoping for a bit more areas to explore. You cannot get off the tram or explore by foot anywhere that the tram goes. It makes sense, but leaves for limited area to spend more time once the tour is over. The people were generally friendly. One man was not friendly at all - everyone in the tour said hello to him and he didn’t not response back once. I would still give this as an option for someone visiting Juneau.

      What a View!
It was very interesting the history of the grounds and the people who created it. But the upside down trees with the gardens planted on top or a marvel and search ingenuity and creativity! Taking the ride up the mountain was exciting and history and identifications all along the way our tour guide was wonderful!

This experience was a disappointment! From reading the brochure provided by our B+B, we expected something more. I should have checked reviews before spending the $60 for two of us. We were given a 45 minute tram ride through the rainforest, with a stop at the top for a view of Juneau. Seeing the rainforest, and the flowers planted along the path, was a nice experience and would have been fine if the price was more reasonable. There were no gardens or trails to walk around. The entrance had some seats, a small gift shop, and hanging plants. Once the tram ride was over, there was nothing else to do.
Our tram driver spoke the entire time, giving us the history of the garden, all about Steve, the owner, and all of the work he did since buying the land- building the roads, digging out the ponds, planting the flowers, turning trees upside down and planting flowers on top of them. That was interesting and he obviously loved the rainforest and admired Steve. The rest of his talk involved comments about the government, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, the park service, local Alaskans not understanding the rainforest, the government relocating the bears and native Alaskans, and on and on it went. He told us he’s allowed to say whatever he wants to, and he did. It was just too much, in my opinion. It would have been nice to have some quiet to enjoy our surroundings. We were sorry that we spent that money when it was all over.

We booked an excursion to Glacier Gardens through our cruise line (Princess) while we were in port in Juneau. We arrived at the gardens and were welcomed by Star who was extremely energetic and outgoing. She made us all feel welcome!

The mountain side was beautiful and we loved the uprooted trees used as planters however, our tour was ruined by the rude tram driver (not Star). There was a total of 10 people in my family on this excursion and the second we started getting seated on the tram ride for our tour through the gardens the tram driver came across aggressive, angry and rude.

The tram driver spoke rudely to an elderly couple waiting to get on the tram and also spoke rudely to the bus tour guide that was with our group for the entire day of the excursion. The tram driver was extremely rude and disrespectful to our entire group. The entire experience had a dark cloud over it due to the horrible attitude of the tram driver. To this day, I still do not know what set the tram driver off to start our tour off on the wrong foot and what the reason was that she was so rude to our group.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the 10 of us and our time spent at Glacier Gardens was the worst experience we had on our entire Alaskan cruise. I regret the amount of money that we spent to take the tour at Glacier Gardens, for the 10 of us it wasn't cheap!

I am so sorry to say that I cannot recommend visiting Glacier Gardens as they have an employee that treats visitors so rudely.

The Glacier Gardens has a wonderful entrance and green house with gift shop. It was amazing to see the large trees stuck upside down in the earth with their root mass sticking upward and lined with moss, dirt, and an incredible variety of flowers in a myriad of colors. However, after a short distance from the parking lot the beauty was less and less spectacular. There were a few ponds with some plantings and a couple of rocky circles with some plantings but nothing like the entrance. We were taken up on a poor "road"by a golf cart that broke down as we neared the top of the 600' climb and had to wait for another cart to come to our rescue. We thought we were traveling in a larger covered vehicle but were told that because we bought our tickets independently on-line we considered a small group. They placed us with a drive/guide and one other couple in this old cart. The owner has a wonderful concept but it appears to be too big a project for one person. It certainly was not worth the money we spent or time we spent getting there since we were cruise ship tourists. Go there, park, visit the gift shop, marvel at the entrance, buy a treat, and save the tour cost!

We had a lovely experience touring the gardens with their upside-down trees and the super steep ride up the side of the mountain. One thing we learned is that the tree roots don't go too deep into the ground. Instead, they are interconnected in a shallow web of roots, and they stay upright by holding each other together. I just love that!

The garden was wonderful. They take you on a covered cart and drive you around to see the rainforest on steep gravel roads. It was so beautiful at its summit and walking around the entrance and greenhouse was magical! I highly recommended this tour. They are short staffed so the tour took a little longer then we expected to start but they have comfortable seating and a small cafe to keep you busy. All in all worth the stop. Be sure to snag a few wild blueberries!

Overpriced. Gouging tourists by charging $30 per person for a short ride up 500 feet through spindly trees with a driver who talks incessantly to an outlook. This tour would be better priced at $15 per person. The gulf cart is uncomfortably crowded because they seat 4 adults across when it is made more comfortably for three. The upside down trees are cool but the first thing you see when you get out of your car in the parking lot is signage saying, "Don't take any pictures until you have paid admission." Would not recommend this activity. Save your money and do the cable car up the mountain in downtown to get better views.

I purchased this ticket knowing that I may have to get to the meeting location but had no idea that the meeting point was about 16 minutes away and by taxi/Uber it will cost 26 dollars. By public transportation it will be 45 minutes before I would get to the starting point. They do not tell you this in the description of what not included. It’s not fair that I was not informed of this by the tour operator. It was the day of when I call them because they had not contacted me with any information and I learned of such cost and time of providing my own transportation to the starting location. I ended up losing the cost of the tour $58 because I couldn’t cancel it the day of. No good business practice. No good if the tour company is not going to be honest of the additional cost for transportation and long commute to the starting point. I don’t recommend this tour!

We don't mean to be dishonest and try to say that guest who are independent travelers come by City bus or Taxi. I have given refunds to other guests who couldn't get transportation, if you ask I will give permission for a refunds for guests who couldn't find a good way to come to the Gardens. We hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your Alaskan experience.

If you love plants and flowers, this trip is a “must see”. It is a family owned business and the owner has poured his heart and soul into making this little corner of paradise into something incredible. The tour started at the bottom with a brief walkabout while our tour guide (Melissa, the owner’s daughter) told us about how Glacier Gardens was created and how it has evolved. Then we hopped onto a shuttle driven by Melissa’s brother who gave a very interesting and entertaining commentary. As the shuttle climbed the winding road 600 feet, he explained how the road and the reflection ponds were built and also told us all about the plants and trees that we saw along the way.

Not only is this extremely budget-friendly, but the tour guide was phenomenal. He is knowledgeable, funny, and clearly very passionate about the National Forest and its preservation (as he should be!). The view at the top of the attraction is unbeatable, and the entire experience was simply beautiful. They have done a really lovely job there.

My group of friends and family were pleasantly surprised by this tour. The gardens are beautiful and the upside down tree gardens were unique and refreshing. The property is immaculately managed, with beautiful thick forests and an abundance of wildlife. You can tell a lot of love and hard work goes into this garden. While the tram is a bit bumpy, I think it actually adds to the experience. The viewpoint offers a spectacular photo opportunity all the way down to the water in all directions, and should not be missed.
Both of our guides were quite nice, and incredibly informative. We really enjoyed hearing about the history of the property, the owner, and we learned a lot about the management of the forests, the edible plants, the animals, and some of the challenges the gardens has faced over the years.
The gift shop, while small, is impressively decorated with vines and topiary hearts. Their staff inside the gift shop and cafe were incredibly sweet. We found many unique treasures to take home with us.
When you're traveling, there's nothing better than supporting local!
