What to expect
  • During your port stay in Juneau, go deep into the Alaskan wilderness on this day trip to the Pack Creek Brown Bear Viewing Area, a wildlife sanctuary located on Admiralty Island. Called the ‘Fortress of the Bears’ by the indigenous Tlingit people, Pack Creek is home to the highest concentration of brown bears in the world. With one guide for every five people, enjoy personalized attention on this small-group tour. After convenient morning port pickup, kick off your tour with a floatplane flight over Tongass National Forest and the Inside Passage. Your pilot makes a smooth landing 25 minutes later on Windfall Island. Receive a safety briefing for your kayaking journey through Windfall Harbor, and then following your guide, paddle to the mouth of Pack Creek on Admiralty Island. Secure your kayak on shore and walk to prime viewing locations to observe grizzly and brown bears in their natural environment. Head over to creeks and streams to see them swimming or catching salmon, and climb up lookout towers to see bears romping around. Spend a leisurely three hours watching bears, before you kayak back to the floatplane site. Your shore excursion ends with van transport back to Juneau port. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required. Visitors to the Pack Creek Brown Bear Viewing Area must have a permit, which is limited in number and provided to tour operators only. As permits sell out quickly, make sure to book this tour well in advance. Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to the Juneau port for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-ofcall. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

Epic Experience
Jul 2018 • Couples
The float plane to and from Windfall Island was great. We had the opportunity to see bears from the plane. The kayaking was rather short; about 20 minutes. I would have preferred a longer trip. Unfortunately we went on a hot, sunny day and did not see any bears at pack creek. This was on July 13th and the salmon were not running either. We kayaked to the viewing area then sat and waited for 2 hours without seeing anything. Even though we didn't see any bears, the scenery was great and the guides was awesome. I recommend this trip for the plane ride and kayaking. With any animal viewing tour, I never expect to see wildlife because they are after all wild animals and unpredictable.

Thank you for your review!! You are absolutely right, you can't expect or be guaranteed bear sighting in the wild. It is always a roll of the dice, and the odds are good but not guaranteed. The biggest thing is the Pack Creek Bear Sanctuary is a stunningly beautiful ecosystem featuring all sorts of animals interacting with their environment, many of whom are bears. For a combo of flight seeing, wildlife viewing, and kayaking, this tour is fantastic! We are very grateful you decided to join us and thank you again for sharing your experience!
