      Great flavors
Visited them to get a taste of their cocoa products after visiting a similar place in Valladolid Mexico. Their products were rich in flavour and history. Highly recommended.

Proprietors Caroline and Jenny are lovely people with a passion for the history of chocolate making by the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica and the world. We got to see and taste chocolate in all stages of production from the raw fruit to the completed product in contemporary artisanal production, as well as sampling two cacao based drinks from times past. Overall it was so interesting and informative that we didn't realise that 2.5 hours had passed and we were almost late for dinner, but the hosts were still inviting questions and passing on their extensive knowledge and enthusiasm not only for chocolate but for organic food production in general. Simply a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

I visited San Jose thinking that I will not find much to do, I love chocolate so I wanted to find a good experience to learn more, little did I know I will find this workshop, I could not call this a tour, it is a beautiful experience, they have a cocoa tree that just flowered so we got to understand the beautiful process of pollination from the beggining, I cant imagine how much care this tree has to be able to grow a flower in an urban environment and that is exactly what you feel of this experience CARE, Carolina and Jenny are great hosts who care about people, food, education and by far they make the best chocolate I have ever tasted. If you are looking for a non touristic real local experiencem this is for you! Thank you girls I take you in my heart and memories. FYI I bought a lot of chocolate to take home :)

I've been in CR for almost 10 weeks now and this was by far my favorite experience yet! Today, I was fortunate to see and learn about chocolate making and it's impact in Costa Rica, Europe, and the rest of the world. From it's inception among indigenous people to the dark delicious bars we see today, so much work goes into making just one piece. I am beyond thankful that I could visit botanica chocolate today and experience something so magical, my appreciation for chocolate making has gone up 10000% since today. Swipe to see:
    1) Raw cacao seeds encased in pulp
    2) Different prepared types of seeds
    3) Ground and shelled cacao seeds
    4) A very bitter chocolate drink with 100% cacao and no sugar, holy moly
    5) The European way of drinking chocolate. Much less bitter
    6) Chocolate mixing machine!
    7) Real raw chocolate
    8) We were able to make our own flavors of chocolate via taste test
    9) The chocolate from the spinning bowl
    10) Made my own chocolate heart!

Such an amazing tour, 100000/10 recommend!

Two very passionate young entrepreneurs run this chocolate business and do tasting tours several times each week. I didn't make a reservation I took a chance and turned up and luckily there was a space for me. Don't try to find the place. It's not signed and impossible to pick out. About 2:45 one of the women keep an eye out for visitors.

The 2 hours was really jam packed with information and passion. See everything from the whole raw fruits to your own finished piece of chocolate. No words can explain how good this event was. Just get there.

It's estimated that 1 billion people eat chocolate every day. This is one of the best places in Costa Rica to learn about the history, growth, and production of Cacao. I had an awesome experience - delicious chocolate, the staff was great and may I say what a beautiful building... if you visit San Jose, this place is definitely a must.

I attended with a group tour and had a great time! They are gracious, professional hosts who love sharing their knowledge of chocolate with guests. It is also, of course, some of the best chocolate I have ever had, without question. I cannot wait to go back to CR and take the tour again!

I loved the location, the building is beautiful and it's located in a very central part of San José, you can find it easily. The guides are wonderfully kind and friendly, they explained everything clearly and made really fun activities. It was a super entertaining and educational experience, apart from the exquisite chocolate that we made. I'd never taken one of these tours before and I think that I had the best first experience I could've ever hoped for. I do recommend making a reservation previously, because I think that otherwise you may not benefit completely from this amazing experience.

I've taken other chocolate tours in CR, which, although good, are very similar to every other finca chocolate tour available. There is a twist to this Botanica Chocolate tour which adds magic to the whole experience. From being in the heart of San José in a 1900 house, to the history we go through, I have never experienced something like this before. The girls are amazing, the house is charming and the tasting is out of this world, . I definitely recommend this place, it put a big smile on my face :)
