- andresdO5911CX00An evening in San JoseA great way to start our visit in San Jose. Upon leaving the airport we met Angel in front of the green statues and walked our way over to el Mercado and national theatre. A fun and unique stop at Mr Sloth Coffee and a night walk through plazas and dinner at a unique place. The dinner was wonderful with other guests. The only critique is that the ice cream in the Mercado was so good we could have had more! A fun evening.
- Kiri O00A Great Intro to the History & Food of Costa RicaMy husband and I did this tour on our first full day in Costa Rica while we stayed in San Jose. It was a fantastic introduction to the history of Costa Rica and was an amazing way to start our trip and understand the way the country became the way it is today. I know many people skip San Jose for the beaches and volcanos, but you are missing out on amazing food we wouldn't have found on our own and an appreciation for the country's culture! We highly recommend this tour! You do a fair amount of walking on the tour so be prepared. You also don't eat until the very end of the tour, so you don't have to arrive hungry, you can work up your appetite. In addition, they were very easily able to accommodate gluten-free on this tour for dinner. The only downside was the bar we stopped at that only had local beers on tap, so there were no options for me there.
- juicyboifox00Absolutely AMAZING!What an amazing tour! Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. The group wasn’t too big so it felt more personal which was fantastic. We learned so much about Costa Rican history and finished the night with an amazing meal!
- Companion67129200Perfect beginning!!I was only in San José gir 2 days! This was a perfect way to begin my visit and get a brief peek of the things I wanted to go back and explore further the next day!!
- Trip4201810387600Guide needs a Quiet BoxThe guide was hard to hear and understand because of traffic noise. The company should invest in a Quiet box so that everyone can hear. Otherwise it was somewhat enjoyable especially the food portion of the tour
- I4039UAbethg00OOPS!I didn't actually get to do this tour. We were scheduled, had paid, and were waiting at the meeting point when a message came through via WhatsApp (Good thing I had downloaded the app for this trip!) one minute before the tour was supposed to begin. One minute! The message said that the tour guide had COVID and was unable to make it. The person sending the message then kindly sent some links to the places we were supposed to visit, and we had a nice walk ending in a nice dinner in the Barrio Escalante. Which was a very interesting and fun neighborhood. So, it's a mixed bag. I think it's quite poor practice to cancel that late--I'm not sure how that could be justified short of a car accident or whatever. But I did appreciate the links and we had an OK evening regardless.
- JoyceM293900In a nutshell, I recommend this evening walking tour. You’ll leave with a great appreciation of CR historyJorge was a very informative guide and great story teller. Passionate about his culture. Left enriched with Costa Rican history. Dinner was delicious. I have several dietary restrictions and the restaurant was very accommodating. Our group was extremely personable. Very pleasant evening! Thank you!
- otemankatia00A great way to see San JoseWe are really glad we took the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about San Jose and we learned a lot and saw neighbourhoods we wouldn’t have known about. I would have liked the tour to start a few minutes earlier to include the central market. The meal was a bit rushed and only two courses (not three). We didn’t really like the food.
- Satisfied63200Great walking tour followed by dinnerWe met at a local bar for a drink and introductions before heading off to see the main places of interest in the historic part of San Jose. Andrew was a great guide with facts and figures at his fingertips plus many stories of the history of San Jose and its development into one of the most stable democracies in Central America. Dinner was fun with great conversation and food.
- Zelda M00Exploring San Jose by night. We spent three hours work Andrew on a walking tour through the city. He's knowledgeable and a great guide. It didn't matter that it rained most of the time and we still had fun. The meal afterwards was lovely.
- MirandaW88600Great way to get your bearings in San José.Andrew is such a good guide. This is an easy walk through the city with Andrew explaining history, architecture and art. It rained but not a lot. We finished with a lovely meal.
- Sajani P00Actually a City Historical Tour with Dinner includedIf I had not already done a foodie tour earlier in the day, I would've been disappointed that we didn't try any food in the area during our walking tour. The guide is very knowledgable and sweet. She met us at a cute bar called El Social where we had a drink and even did some impromptu salsa dance lessons. Then we started our city walk and it was really nice. She knew all the history and was very sweet. Then we ended at a restaurant where we all enjoyed dinner. That's the food part of the tour.
- Marciugali00This is not a foodie tour, this is a historical tour!If you were looking for a foodie tour do not do this tour! While the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history in the area we were walking through we did not discuss food! We also felt like it was a bit of a race and at one point we lost the tour guide, standing in a corner lost! We were all mistaken what the purpose of the tour was. If you think this is one of the tours where you were sampling different foods you’re wrong. The whole tour group was under the impression that’s what we would be doing. They were three separate groups that participated. The dinner was not good and I could not eat my food it taste more like Mexican food. My friend thought her chicken was probably frozen fried chicken thrown into a salad. Very disappointed and sad! I thought they were supposed to be three courses but we only got two maybe that was enough because they weren’t good.
- patrickwbaker100Excellent History and Food TourThis experience completely changed the way I see San Jose. Our group was perfect and small and included myself, my grandmother, and one other tourist. Our guide, Vinny, was an expert in all things San Jose (and Costa Rica overall) and delivered a perfect walking tour of the cultural/political area of downtown SJ. We started with drinks (included!!) at a local bar, then spent roughly 2.5 hours walking at a slow pace throughout the downtown area while Vinny pointed out culturally significant buildings and monuments, before finishing at a wonderful restaurant in Barrio Escalante. Highly recommend if you are interested in learning more about the history of Costa Rica and San Jose and if you are looking to get a feel for what the city is really like.
- dubdoubleu00San Jose Costa Rica Night TourThis is a 2.5 hours walking tour. It was raining. No umbrella or raincoat provided. You have to bring your own. Not really much to see or explore around San Jose. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us different buildings. Stopped by a restaurant and food was great. Had to take a taxi to go back to our hotel.

As a non-coffee drinker, I was shy on taking this tour, but the tour is SO much more than I imagined. Eric is a terrific guide. Our first taste was a coffee, but made so uniquely, that I really enjoyed it. I would drink this coffee daily if we could get it in Colorado. We were offered a unique, one-of-a kind tomato juice shooter, then started our tour of the market. Extremely interesting and educational. We tried so many fruits that we hadn't even known existed. We had cheese empanadas as well. Eric toured us though the San Jose area, explaining history and architecture, as well as touring the theatre. Our tour ended after a brief walk over to a family owned restaurant where we got some traditional snacks and drinks. The Costa Ricans are very sensitive to the virus and have kept everything clean and safe. We never felt at risk. Again, Eric is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Great tour!

This is an awesome day tour to do if you want to get to know the downtown area and history of San Jose and Costa Rica. My wife and I really enjoyed walking around the central market and trying all the fruits and local popular foods. The tour guide Ernesto was great. You finish the tour at a cafe where you learn about how they extract the cacao and eventually make chocolates. We got to sip on some of the best hot chocolate and got to try some costa rican style tamales. Tour ended close to the National History Museum so it was perfect to walk over to the next thing.

There was no food. Paid for the private experience, and, apparently, the tour guide thought private meant only them--never stopped talking, and made us wait almost an hour and an half for the cup of coffee that's supposed to happen at the beginning. Took us to the market and described the food, telling us endless anecdotes. But, and I repeat, there was no food. Not that there was much sightseeing either, as I recall.

We met Eric at the meeting point which was literally at the front of the market entrance. Good thing he spotted us cause it is a busy pedestrian area. Eric took us around the streets of San Jose and was very knowledgeable about the history and the day to day of his Country and the people. We toured the market, a beautiful church, government sites and also got a chance to see how Chocolate was made. This was very educational and gave us a chance to mingle with the locals and sample tropical fruit and empanadas and some amazing coffee. He was very patient and stopped if we felt like we needed pictures. Fare warning it is a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes and bring small change to purchase fruit and souvenirs. I would recommend this tour to anyone in the city for a day, it's well worth it!!! Thank you Eric for being such a great host and teaching us about your beautiful country, Costa Rica.

I don’t usually write reviews but Gabriel is an exceptional guide.
My wife and I love to travel. During our travels we find guided tours to learn more about the history of the area and the locals. For the most part, we have enjoyed almost al of them. It’s the guide who can really make the experience memorable.
We recently took a tour in Costa Rica through Intrepid Tours and our guide was Gabriel. He was sensational! He is knowledgeable about his country and we could see how passionate he is about it.
He introduced us to fruit that is only grown in Costa Rica and gave us the opportunity to taste them as well. We were amazed with all of it.
¡Gracias a Gabriel e Intrepid Tours!
We hope others have the opportunity to tour with Gabriel.

I love this tour. It’s the easiest way to get to know San Jose .amidst all the negative reviews of this amazing city, what’s important is really how people shaped this gem with its architecture and food. Eric was a great guide as he took us to where local people go. The market was amazing . Learned some things I wouldn’t have learned otherwise . Met a few friends along the way too.

Eli was a great guide - he took us to both of the markets in San Jose and gave us opportunities to try new and local produce and foods. His knowledge of the history of both the markets and San Jose made the tour quite enjoyable and a great cultural experience. The only complaint, was that upon getting to our final stop (where you are able to try some hot chocolate and tamales), the employee at the chocolate shop was not there when we arrived, and we were forced to wait for him to come back. Overall, great tour, Eli was great, and certainly worth the time and money!

Great walking tour! Our tour guide, Eric, was very knowledgeable and very easy to contact. We got a bit turned around on our way to the tour, but Eric had provided us with his cell phone number when we purchased our tickets. He spoke English fluently. He also walked at a nice pace (since I was 7 months pregnant on the tour). He took us to places we would not have found on our own-- and they did not disappoint! We drank coffee from a couple different local roasteries, and it was delicious! We bought some to take home. And we tried all kinds of fruit and other small bites on the tour. We finished up at an adorable local, family-owned restaurant. Not only was it great to get to experience the local cuisine, but it was also nice to help small businesses who have really struggled during COVID. Eric also walked us over to the National Theater so we could purchase tickets for a tour later that day.

We did the free walking tour in San José on our first day in Costa Rica. Our Guide Steven was amazing! He told us so much about the city, the country and the culture and showed and explained us many plants. He took us to the best places and without him we would have missed the best of San José!
I recommend everybody to do this tour!
Thanks again to Steven!
