Without the convenience of a guided tour, you’re likely to miss the beautiful Irazu Volcano with its lagoon-filled summit and the surrounding historical towns of Orosi and Cartago. A guided tour from San Jose eliminates the hassle of slow public transportation and shows you the top sites in the area in just one day, plus provides useful information from your guide throughout.
  • Tour Irazu Volcano and the Orosi Valley in just a day
  • Travel far from the hustle of San Jose on a time budget
  • Private transportation is reliable and comfortable
  • Guide provides information you wouldn’t get on your own
  • Lunch at a local restaurant included
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off from San Jose included
What to Expect
Begin your tour with pickup from your San Jose hotel. Travel in an air-conditioned van through scenic countryside en route to your first destination at Cartago, situated at the base of Irazu Volcano. Upon arrival, tour the Basilica of Los Angeles, an important pilgrimage destination famous for its shrine to Black Madonna. Next, drive up Irazu Volcano to admire its gray slopes and crater lagoon at close range. Descend on the other side into the quiet town of Orosi, where a city walking tour highlights the colonial architecture, natural surroundings, and one of the oldest churches in Costa Rica. Eat lunch at a local restaurant (included). Your last stop is at the Lankester Botanical Gardens. Your guide tells you about the tropical orchids that make the gardens popular. Tour concludes with drop-off at your San Jose hotel.

Pretty easy-going half day trip, nothing amazing, the Lankester gardens are nice, not much time was spent there.

I took this tour on my first full day in Costa Rica and enjoyed seeing a variety of sites. It can be cold up on the volcano, so you may want to wear pants and bring a jacket. We couldn't really get a good view of the inside of the cathedral because we were there on Sunday and

The driver and guide were very nice! We learned a lot about the region while driving. Seeing volcanoes and the craters is always a cool experience. It was cloudy since it was rainy season, but the clouds were moving so we managed to see the lake in the crater, which was
