      Brilliant
Full day tour from our cruise ship. Picked up for our 6-7 hours day excursion. Our guide was great, full of information as we headed to a canal and saw lots of wildlife, then a fruit stand where we bought pastries and tried a small banana. The main highlight ended at cahuita national park where we saw sloths and monkeys in the trees and skunks running about where we then walked back on the beach followed by drinking a nice cool beer at the bar ending a great day for $95 per person.

One of the best tours of the cruise
It is 3 months since we took the 'Around Limon Excursion' with Relax Day Tours, but it is never too late to leave a good review. A very interesting day - lots of places visited, with heaps of information on the local culture and wildlife from our very knowledgeable, amusing and helpful guide Larry. A very nice lunch at a lovely beach bar was one of the highlights, as well as a little river boat trip to spot wildlife. The driver was also excellent and amazing at spotting wildlife in the trees and on the verges, that we might otherwise have missed. Good value for money and we would definitely return for another tour with Relax Day (and Larry!)

Puerto Limon Bonita Beach tour (from the cruise port)
From the cruise port in Puerto Limon, we (approx 20 cruise ship people) met our tour guide Larry and boarded a small, yet comfortable, bus. It was an awesome tour lasting about 5 hours. We visited the city, banana plantations, church, countryside market stop and Playa Bonita Beach for a drink and something to eat. Larry was an awesome tour guide and really entertained us and enlightened us regarding life in his country. I highly recommend this tour

      Pura Vida Costa Rica
We had a great shore excursion tour in early March with Relax Day Tours. We chose the 4-hour Around Limon Tour with Larry our tour guide and Giovanni the bus driver. It was a nice group size of about 12 on a comfortable small bus. We visited a beautiful church in Limon before heading out to the countryside to a fruit stand, banana plantation, the Tortuguero Canal boat ride and the Playa Bonita Beach. Larry was so interesting with a wealth of knowledge of flora and fauna. Both he and Giovanni were excellent at spotting wildlife along the ride. The boat ride was amazing with all the wildlife viewing of monkeys, sloths, a caiman, and lots of birds. We were glad we chose them and definitely would recommend them.

      A great day out!
Frederico Schuster of Relax Day tours is the best! This was my second day out with Relax Day and the second time was as good as the first! I am disabled with limited mobility and rely on an electric scooter to get me around. I was able to do everything! We were met on time at the port; my buggy was stowed and we had a small tour of the town. Then it was off to the canal and the boat. I was helped onto the boat and we had a great time - seeing so much wild-life. We then had a short loo and coffee stop at a great place before going on to the National Park. With my buggy I was able to go about 1 1/2 miles down the rough path - with wonderful views, monkeys, snakes, etc. A stop at the local supermarket for ice-cream and then we were taken back to the ship. It was a fantastic day. The driver and guide were good and the organisation superb. I highly recommend Relax Day tours.

      Outstanding in every way
Our day was fantastic and so much fun. Our guide Larry was so knowledgeable and entertaining. Our driver Giovani(?) was incredible at spotting wildlife, both driver and guide were top notch. Pickup was easy and we could find Larry quickly and as expected. One of the highlights was the boat trip, where we saw lots of birds, sloths and iguanas. The time spent at Playa Bonita was very relaxing. This was a great excursion and it exceeded our expectations from start to finish, we saw a lot of things a were dropped off back at the cruise terminal with plenty of time to do some shopping. Thank you to all the team at Relax Day Tours for this wonderful day. 5 stars+!!

A Must Do Tour In Puerto Limon With Relax Day Tours
This was one of the best tours we had on our cruise. Relax Day Tours was easy to find when we got through the port. Larry met us and got us on the ac bus. Larry was very knowledgeable of the trees, plants, wildlife and the town. We would be driving along and he would have the driver stop to show us a plant/tree. The driver was very good at seeing things in the trees that we cold not see until he stopped. Sorry we don't know the driver's name but he and Larry made a fantastic pair for this tour. They took us on a boat tour and we saw birds, alligators and iguanas. They took us to a banana plantation and explained the operation. We stopped at a fruit stand and sampled the bananas. We also sampled other fruit and coffees. He took us to Playa Bonita where we an optional lunch and drinks overlooking the beach and waves. We were able to stick our toes in the sand. We ended our tour at the grocery store where we were able to purchase coffee, rum, beer, or anything we needed. Overall, we could not have asked for any better excursion. We not only saw everything that was listed but we saw much more as Larry would point out plants and trees used for healing and minor medical treatments.

      Perfect excursion!
We booked the half day tour and this company was excellent from beginning to end. Communication was clear, friendly and really helpful with our questions. Our guide and driver were just wonderful! They are very knowledgeable of the area and wildlife. The boat ride on the canals was great too, we got lucky and saw many sloths which I loved!! This was a very fun tour and we felt very comfortable, this was definitely the highlight of our trip. Highly recommended!

      Great Tour in Costa Rica
We loved this tour and learned so much. Larry was a very good guide and had many interesting facts to share about Costa Rica, it's sights, plants, banana plantations and wildlife. We would definitely recommend Relax Day Tours in Costa Rica and would use them again.

      Amazing tour!
Whether you’re here from a cruise or staying in the area this tour is a must! We covered so much ground in this tour! Our tour guide was wonderful and really loves showing off Limon. From spotting animals for us, letting us try local bananas, explains the local spices, fruits and vegetable. He even had us singing!

      Exceeded expectations!
This was a great excursion for us! We saw tons of wildlife everywhere we went. Our guise, JC was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about all of the wildlife, from fauna to birds to mammals. He gave us lots of information about Costa Rica as well. This excursion exceeded our expectations.

      Disappointed!
Just returning from a Panama Canal cruise and booked this tour a year ago based on reviews here. Was very disappointed in how it turned out. First off, Larry was Amazing and so was the guy who drove our boat on the river. Where the review doesn’t get 5 stars is when we were made to sit on a bus for 45 minutes waiting for 3 missing people. Then Larry is finally told he can leave. We visit the church. Then Larry says he’s sorry but his boss called and the 3 ladies showed up and we have to return and pick them up. This made everything rushed as we were late an hour! At our final destination we are told to enjoy the beach and order food and drink. We follow the directions and order. Drinks show up. Larry proceeds to come over and tell us he’s canceling our order because people want to get back to shop. We weren’t given a choice in any of it. We pile back on bus, not happy at all, and proceed to wait 15 minutes for the 3 late individuals to get back on as they are enjoying the beach. If a tour is described it should be done as stated. If people were upset and wanted to shop they could have bought a taxi back to port. As for the 3 ladies, everyone else got off boat fine and as instructed and left behind as no shows. No we would not recommend! It was not anything related to Larry or our driver or the boat driver. It’s all on upper management.

A fun, relaxed day for our family to get the local feel for Costa Rico
This was a great day with a small group, including lots of animal sightings in the Tortuguero Canals and along the road; and a fascinating walk in Cahuita Natural Park first through the rainforest and back along the beach. Juan Carlos (JC) was a great guide, full of knowledge and pride in Costa Rica. Our driver (? Donelo) was great at spotting animals and brought his daughter Dana that day and she was a fun addition. Our family included three young adult children and parents. JC was so encouraging of our son who is a passionate animal lover. Highly recommend this tour.

You meet your driver once you exit the port and find him in the crowd of folks waiting. That went quite well. The van was pretty good with AC. The drive to the rain forest was about an hour and mostly on good roads. Nice local scenery and villages along the way. The rainforest itself was disappointing. You only walk about a 1/2 mile. The cage ride down the mountain at the top of the forest was good. They take you to some building which I did not care for (snakes, lizards, frogs, etc...). After the rainforest we were driven to the canal. (we did receive water and juice once we asked for it.). At the canal, it was very disorganized. We ended up on a boat with a full group of German tourists (no English explanations). The canal is just ok. Saw a couple of animals and birds.

We are sorry to hear that our services were not to your liking. We cannot respond for Veragua Rainforest, as it is a private ecological reserve, and the exhibits are only a part of the attractions they offer. Many guests are very satisfied, a very small minority like yourselves apparently do not find it interesting. But we do take responsibility for the boat tour, it was a mistake to put you with a group of Germans, we told the German speaking guide to speak English as well, which apparently she did not. That is why we offer you a 100% refund per our satisfaction guarantee, as the tour was not satisfactory for you. Please contact us as soon as possible. Our sincere apologies.

Spent the day with "Steven" (Esteben) on our day excursion. He was awaiting with an engaging smile when we left the terminal, that was easy and our day began. Throughout the day, he was cordial and informative. Went to lunch at a local venue that tourists would not know about (perfect) and he provided an experience only a local could provide. A real gentleman. Feel like we got a lot of bang out of our buck. (The rainforest admission cost was a tad steep, in addition to the cost of the tour, but we knew that " out of the gate").
Would highly recommend this day tour.

We had the pleasure of doing a tour last week with Relax Day Tours. Federico and Jorge were amazing!! Federico was so personable and spoke English very well. He was excellent at explaining animal habits, the culture of Costa Rica, and farming techniques and information.

He was there at the dock exactly where he said he would be, holding a sign. His directions for us to follow to find him were perfect. Jorge was great at finding wildlife on the sides of the road and also while in the canal.

The first thing I told Federico when we got in the van was that I really wanted to see a sloth. Well, they made that dream come true! I saw several. It was truly amazing to see them in person. They were high in the trees and most were sleeping, but we were lucky enough to discover one in the canals that was crawling around in the tree!

The Veragua Rainforest was breathtaking. FYI, your Relax Day guides do not accompany you into the rainforest. You are handed off to the guides that work for the rainforest and they will accompany you through the area. But, Federico walked with us to the entrance, introduced and handed us off to our guide there, and he was right there waiting at the exit as we left. So much beauty at the rainforest, as well as many different types of small wildlife.

In the Tortuguero Canal, we took Federico's boat and found iguanas, many bird species, sloths, and even a howler monkey or two. Again, Jorge was great at spotting things and Federico was great at making sure we got up close to see the animals and get some photos.

Not only did we go to the rainforest and the canals, but we did a little mini city tour, and he took us to a restaurant up on the hill overlooking the bay and the ship. Amazing photo op there. We relaxed and enjoyed a beverage, and then he also stopped at a supermarket in town where we could stock up on a few things to take back with us on the ship. Oh, and we also stopped for a few minutes at the beach to enjoy the beauty. We could have stayed longer, but we just wanted to get a quick picture. Federico never once made us feel rushed during our day with him, and he was eager and happy to tailor anything we wanted.

This excursion was the highlight of our 17 days on the seas. I cannot recommend this tour company enough. The next time we find ourselves in Puerto Limon we will definitely contact Relax Day Tours again to do a different excursion with them.

Book a tour, you won't be sorry!

We had such a great time and ended up with a private tour with Esteban. We watched the people from the ship experience the same things, only in a large group with lines and a crowded bus. We also paid less! We saw sloths and toucans. Highly recommended! Ask for Esteban. He told us so much about the local area and had a great sense of humor.

We booked via Princess so I hope this review is about the right company. This the tour we took and we enjoyed it immensely. The guide, Edrei, was informative and engaged. He moved to tour at a decent, but not rushed pace, provide good narratives and was very good. The Rainforest portion of the tor took the majority of the time and included two long bus rides over some bumpy, narrow, winding roads. Our driver was (thankfully) very skilled and Edrei helped pass the time well with stories and demos. A spoiler, if you have him, you may never view chocolate quite the same again. The time at the rainforest included a couple of brief lectures by staff / scholar / naturalists with real insight into the ecosystem and the University Foundations efforts at preservation and conservation. We toured a large number of exhibits, had a nice tram ride down and back up,(thank goodness!) about 3300 feet to a small creek and trail leading to a waterfall. My wife took the hike to the falls and reported they were quite pretty, but assured me I made the right choice to rest and watch a toucan in a tree near the tram station. Tour included a decent lunch. From the Rainforest we made to the journey to the Canals for a pleasant ride on a boat - spotted several interesting birds, a couple of sloths (one a mother with a baby) and a few monkeys - no caiman or crocs. The ride was pleasant and a good ending to a long day. We returned to a welcomed, refreshing array of fresh fruit prior to the short drive back to the ship. If you are on a cruise ship that offers this excursion, it is strongly recommended,

Booked this trip through a cruise line. Picked up up at the dock and had a comfortable bus trip to the rainforest through local villages. Part of the trip was a gravel road, but seeing the local homes and flora/fauna on the way added to the feel of the trip. My wife was having problems with a recent hip replacement surgery and the staff at the beginning of the walk offered a free wheelchair for her. There seemed to be only one wheelchair there, so don't assume it will be available. The rainforest walk has two versions. A fairly flat boardwalk trip through the rainforest was guided by a informative guide who pointed out local things of interest. The other (which we did not take) had a trip to a waterfall with 175 steps to get to the waterfall. The butterfly house was amazing. After a hot lunch, we were bussed to theTortuguero Canals where we boarded a small river boat and in the short, smooth ride on the boat, we saw several sloths, howler and white faced monkeys who followed the boat, crocodile, and lizards. It was the highlight of the trip. Tony was our tour guide throughout the entire trip and was excellent.

Juan Carlos was an excellent guide and very friendly and fun. The rainforest was beautiful to see and it was not buggy. I enjoyed the butterfly and frog exhibits and the waterfalls. We did not see animals close. However during the boat ride in the canal we saw lots of sloths, monkeys, and beautiful birds and lizards in the wild. Overall a very nice day.

We booked with Relax Day Tours based on some other reviews. We were in port for the entire day and the price was very reasonable for the day. Frederico and Florian was waiting for us as we walked off the ship and showed us everything possible in Limon. They were flexible with what we felt like doing and went out of their way to make sure we were able to see everything that was possible. Incredible day and we highly recommend them. Such a fun day and wonderful memories!!!

We did this as a shore excursion from our cruise ship. The drive to Veragua was long and, for a significant portion, bumpy and uncomfortable. The tour guide on the bus gave very little information about Costa Rica or the neighborhoods and areas we drove through on the way to the rainforest. The rainforest was beautiful, especially from the aerial tram, and the guides were very informative. Only saw frogs, snakes and birds…no larger animals.

The Tortuguero Canal portion was disappointing. This is a man made canal near the port. The water was dirty and smelled. We did see some birds, a cayman and sloth but overall, we could have skipped this portion of the tour.

Hello, we have checked our guest list and could not find a customer with your name and region. You wrote that you did a shore excursion from your cruise ship, but we are an independent tour operator - the cruise lines are our competitors. In March 2024 (your review says this was your travel date), we only used vans and smaller vehicles to go to Veragua, as our groups were quite small. We have not used a bus as you mention, that's what the cruise lines do. The boats in your pictures are not ours either (our boats are smaller and called "Relax"). If you don't mind, feel free to contact us with your booking information and we can try to point you to the correct company. Also, please make sure to post your review to the right page. Sadly, this is not the first time that someone posts to our page to complain about another company. Best regards.

This is simply a taste or beginner’s guide to this part of the world. If you have that expectation, then it will meet expectations. It’s about a 5 km dirt road drive once you leave the paved street to get there. The fee for our approximate three hour tour was US$75; that’s over and above what you might pay for any transportation or tour to get there but that was disclosed ahead of time. No lines.

Wear bug spray & if you are especially prone to mosquito bites (as I am), here’s a tip you won’t find in any medical books: Take a B12 shot within a week of going. I did both those and got no bites!

There was so much diversity in biosphere that our guide, Paula, shared with us. She was so passionate, cheerful and genuinely loved what she was doing!

Thank you for the positive review! We are glad you enjoyed your trip to Veragua, and it's fantastic that Paula conveyed her passion as a guide. As you note, this tour covers a section of the Caribbean region of Costa Rica and it's designed to accommodate cruise ship passengers such as you. There is definitely so much more to see of our country that can't be covered in such a limited time frame. We hope you'll have the opportunity to visit and see more of the beauty of our country sometime in the future. Thanks again and best wishes from Puerto Limon.
