We just got back from a lovely cruise and one of our stops was in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. We took the Full Day Tour to Cahuita National Park excursion with Relax Day Tours.
Our guide for the day was Monika. She was wonderful! She is multilingual and she was able to present information in both English and German for the 15 people in our group. She was informative, humorous and flexible in her approach and it appeared that the whole group enjoyed our 6 hour excursion very much. I highly recommend Monika and Relax Day Tours!

Unforgetable tour to see the fauna and flora of Costa Rica plus Puerto Limon that we higly recommend
Dec 2022
Hi,
we were cruising with Aida Luna and arrived in Puerto Limon on the 27th of December.
We found Federico and his tours on Internet and found very interesting to get in one tour two main attractions (Tortuego Canals plus Cahuita Nationalpark) plus three others: High Panorama views of Puerto Limon, Visit of an indigenous fruit market (with detailed explanations about the carribean exotic fruits and trees given by Federico) and stop and explanation about a banana plantation (only from exterior).
We are accompanied as well by Johany a very nice person with eagle eyes that had spotted a lot of the animals for us.
We have seen all the animals that one expect to see in such tours ( lot of birds, two species of monkeys, sleeping animals with two or three fingers, wash bears etc, with bonus a small cayman.
Federico is a very instructed and professional guide that gave us lots of other informations about Costa Rica its economy, schooling system, fauna and flora etc.
To mention as well is that there were a lot of cold drinks available for everyone.
We loved this tour (the best from the 10 tours we made in the Carribean and Central America) and recommend it 100% from all our heart.
Hope to arrive once again in the area in the next years to be able to book more tours with you Federico!
Thank you Johany and Federico!

I had a great experience during my full day trip with Steven. He picked me up just outside of my hotel and spent some time learning about my interests and what I wanted to see and experience before departing. After learning I spoke a little Spanish, Steven graciously agreed to help me improve my ability and kindly offered to speak Spanish with me at a slower speed so I could practice talking and understanding.
We began the trip driving around Limón so I could get a better sense of the city, before arriving at the Tortugero Canals. Our boat ride through the Canals was filled with countless animal and wildlife sightings and I saw more tropical birds, lizards, and other animals then I could count.
Following the scenic boat trip, Steven picked me up and we went to Cahahuita National Park, a beautiful national park along the beach. Steven guided me partway, then let me explore the remainder of the park on my own, letting me wander through the tropical beach side jungle.
Finally, Steven took me to a fantastic local hangout spot that he mentioned was a favorite of his family where we cracked open a couple beers and I ate a late lunch of fantastic seafood.
Along the drive, Steven was always knowledgeable about the scenery and the countryside and never failed to point out interesting information about the banana plantations, the rivers we crossed, or the howler monkeys screeching in the canopy looming over the road.
I'm grateful to Steven for making the trip To Limón memorable and for his continued friendliness and offer for future correspondence; when I return to Costa Rica, I will be sure to give Steven a call.

The visit to the Cahuita National Park was too short. We were only there less than one hour, but the things pointed out by the guide were very informative and interesting. We had a very nice stop at a little fruit and souvenir market and had some delicious organic banana samples. The guide was very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora and medicinal features of the plants. The canal boat ride and banana plantation visits were very nice. Many animals and birds were observed on the boat ride. All in all, a very good tour.

My family and I were very impressed with the tour. We were there on the day before Christmas and had an amazing time. Fredrico and the driver went out of their way to find every piece of wildlife that Costa Rica has to offer. They had tons of bottled water and Mango juice to keep us hydrated. The small group format was such that when someone in our group wanted to try some local empanadas Fredrico took us to the local place and created a 10 minute stop for the bus! His knowledge of history, economy, agriculture, plants, and animals was amazing. It was really a great day given by a great guide and driver.

We had an excellent excursion. There were a couple late cancellations, and my wife and I ended up up being the only guests on the tour. Juan Carlos took good care of us. He was very informative, interesting, professional, friendly, and got us back to the ship in plenty of time. This tour with Relax Day Tours was a good choice for us.

The tour was not full day as stated, it started at 8 and returned at noon. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, we enjoyed it albeit it was over priced. Had a bout ride in the river and later walked in the beautiful park by the sea.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. According to our records, this tour has never been completed in such a short time (4 hours is too short, definitely not enough to complete this tour), so we suspect you might have mistakenly entered the wrong vehicle/group for one of our shorter tours, or even from another operator. Please contact us to investigate this further. It's great to see that you enjoyed your day in Puerto Limon nevertheless. Of course, we stand by our satisfaction guarantee, so you are entitled to a partial/full refund if you are not satisfied with the experience. Thank you and best regards.

Great day with Rupert and George! Happy and informative. Communication is easy with Frederico. Price reasonable considering we got our own driver, air conditioned van and guide for the day. Both Rupert and George had eagle eyes for all animals. Amazing that we got our own boat for the canals which gave us the freedom to walk around the boat and get different views.
Fruit stand was very good but I expected more variety of fruits. Got to have some coffee and “Pattys” as well.
Cahuita NP is nice and got to see more animals. Quite busy but we were there on a Saturday. Got to have a bite at the restaurant just outside of the NP.

Extremely over priced tour as many are in Costa Rica. Cahuita Park is free and many people help each other find or share animals, others seen. I believe the tour guides would should all take a tour and Lear from the Tree of Life Rescue, Rehibilation, Release Center.

You reviewed the wrong company! We are certain you did not travel with us. We checked your profile, and you claim to have been in Cahuita on March, but you also visited a lot of other places in Costa Rica (such as La Fortuna, which is far away). All of our customers during March came on cruise ships, and in fact, basically all of our customers are cruise ship passengers. You couldn't have taken our tour! It looks like you were travelling on your own by car, or that you bought a multi-day tour package from another company (we do not offer that). We do not operate this tour from Cahuita, we begin from the cruise ship terminal in Puerto Limon (over 40 km away). Also, our guides do not just tell you the names of the animals, we always try to give you plenty of information and make your tour entertaining. You can check our REAL reviews to see that we strive for excellency. Please CHECK before posting a review and making a mistake like this, as you are hurting a hard-working company in these terrible times of crisis which have already decimated our industry.

Met at the cruise terminal exit by our guide Dani & driver Eric. Had a lovely seven hour trip including a boat trip on the canals & walk through the National Park. Dani & Eric were excellent at spotting the wildlife. She gave us information about the history & culture & opportunity to sample local produce. Her English & commentary were excellent & we recommend this day out.

What is the difference between half day tour and whole day tour? How much time do you allow swimming? Any changing room on the beach? I don't want to get your seats wet. Will swimming be the last stop? Our ship Princess Emerald docks from 7 am to 6 pm. What time do you think we will be back to ship?

Hi, I understand there will be swimming time. Can you advise whether there is changing room or not? Is the port close to town, walkable? Our cruise will arrive at 7 and depart at 6 pm.
Hello. We have a group that will be traveling together on the Caribbean Princess. We dock in Limon on March 7 at 7:00am and our ship leaves that afternoon at 6:00pm. We are interested in your tour but have some questions. 1) Are you available that day for a group of 6-10? 2) We may have two people in our group that will probably not be hiking and/or swimming for the Cahuita portion of the day due to knee problems. Can you recommend something they can do for that hour closeby? Please let me know. Thank you.
Federico S
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica4 contributions
Hello, yes, we have availability for a group of 6 - 10 people. Keep in mind it might not be a private tour just for your group, but a small group tour (around 12 people per excursion or fewer). If you want a private tour please don't hesitate to contact us directly. If some people do not want to hike nor swim, they could instead stay at a restaurant which is nearby Cahuita's entrance and enjoy a local dish. There are also several benches in Cahuita, so they could hike a little, and then stay at one of the benches to relax. Best regards.

Hi Horst, The weather is currently quite rainy, but generally it is like that in the Caribbean of our country, unfortunately we cannot give a correct prognostic about how the weather will be on December 1, we will try to make the tour as pleasant as possible. We currently have 2 seats available on the tour to Cahuita in German. Best Regards

Hi. our ship arrives at 7:30 am and departs at 4pm on 8th Dec. will this work for this cruise? Also what happens if ship docks late?!
Federico S
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica4 contributions
Yes, we have operated this tour for cruise ships that have this schedule (7:30 - 16:00) and we have delivered the tour without issues. Our only request is to begin early (around 7:45 - 8:00 am) to take good advantage of the time. If the ship docks somewhat late (let's say 8:30 am) we can still manage the tour, however if there is a very significant delay, then you could choose not to join the tour or we can reduce the time at each stop to fit the limited time. Best regards.

Our cruise ship is in port: 7 am through 6 pm. We (party of 3) look forward to a full day in Costa Rica to see some natural beauty and hear about your history. As this is a full day tour will there a quick meal along the way? Our prmary interest is to see as much as possible. Maybe a sloth or two?
Federico S
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica4 contributions
Hello, there are restaurants and shops along the way to have a meal, but since this is a long excursion, your guide will let you know if there is enough time, as stopping at a restaurant can take 30 - 60 minutes. Your guide can also point you to some typical snacks so you can eat something along the way. Please keep in mind the price of meals is not included.
Also, this is a nature-focused tour, so yes we have a good chance of seeing plenty of wildlife. We see sloths quite often, and your guide and driver will make sure you see as many as possible. Since this is open nature, we never guarantee you will see everything, but there is a very high chance to find at least 3 sloths on the tour. Thank you.

How do we book for 4 couples and make sure we are together total of 8 people? Do all together or can we each book our own to pay individually? Our cruise is not till March 2020
Federico S
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica4 contributions
Hello, thank you for your question. To make a group reservation, you just have to select a tour leader or lead traveler for your group and indicate his or her name to join that group. For example, if Jack Smith is your group leader / representative, please indicate "Joining Jack Smith's group" as a special requirement and we will make sure you all go together. You can pay your bookings individually, no issues. Thank you.
