      Stop: 3 hours
We’ll meet at Pangas Beach Club in Tamarindo where there is parking, bathroom & shower facilities. Before setting out on a 35-minute kayak through lush mangroves I will brief you on the correct safety and paddling techniques. On reaching the heart of the Park we’ll leave the kayaks ashore to hike numerous trails, observing as much wildlife as possible; howler monkeys, exotic birds, parrots, herons, cranes, iguanas, squirrels and others. You will see exotic plants, like dragonfruit cactus, wild hibiscus, mushrooms and big trees such as the garden of the forest and the national guanacaste tree. We will visit and climb to the top of an archaeological site, built by the ancient indigenous people using rocks brought from nearby. Here we can see a stunning bird view of the tree canopy. This is a great place to observe the wildlife from above before returning to the kayaks for a refreshing drink and paddling back to Tamarindo. During our adventure I will guide you, explaining the animal behaviours and plant life we see. Due to daily tidal changes it is important we schedule the tour 60 – 90 mins before high tide.

      Captivating Capitan
We had a wonderful time with Tom going to Capitan. The paddling was quite the adventure and the island is beautiful. We snorkeled and took a lovely walk and saw animal life and critters and really enjoyed ourselves. Tom was a pleasure. Thank you for starting our vacation in such a lovely way . Now, when we look out on the island from the beach, we know we’ve been there!

It was a great time, saw great creatures! Had to paddle hard against the wind but we conquered it! Would go on another trip again!

      Awesome, intimate adventure!
We toured with Luis two days: once to kayak into the estuary before sunset, and then to see the nesting sea turtles. Both were outstanding experiences. Off the beaten track to places we never would have ventured alone, with an experienced naturalist (and world traveler) Luis Ernesto. We arrived to the deserted beach just at brilliant sunset and immediately observed a turtle dragging herself up the beach to begin excavating her nest, and then the deeper smaller hole into which the eggs are deposited. Much later, several large groups showed up and we departed, feeling grateful to have witnessed this ancient ritual of survival.

Great for adults, challenging for young kids
We got lucky and saw two turtles on our adventure! So cool. However, I would not recommend taking young children unless they are very, very patient. Our kids had a hard time waiting while the guide was looking for turtles. Amazing experience for adults.

Recommended tour to see one of natures truely remarkable creatures.
Luis is a knowledgable, patient and enthusiastic tour leader. He met us at a local spot in Tamarindo and loaded us in his 4X4 and we set off just before sunset on a nice mid-November evening. The whole way there he explained to us the life-cycle of the Green Sea Turtle, patiently answering our questions. At a certain point we turned off the paved road and headed slowly down a rough dirt path (with stream crossings) until we arrived at a secluded beach, about 45-minutes after leaving Tamarindo. Spraying up with bug repelant and equiping ourselves with flashlights, we made our way to the beach. We waited in our small group while Luis went down the beach in search of a Green Turtle. There was no guarantee that we would see one. We had good fortune in that he spotted a big one making her way back to the sea after an unsuccessful attempt at climbing the steep sand dune. We stayed behind her for 10-minutes as she made her way back to the ocean for what Luis described as a rest. She will likely try again at a different time or a different beach. Lots of pictures were taken in the faint red-light of Luis's flashlight (this colour is the only one we are allowed to use for fear of confusing the turtles). We were all delighted to see one -- Luis said that there are tours where they visit several beaches and do not come across one and other tours where they might see 2 or 3. With thunderstorms looming, we decided to head back. In all, a delightful and informative trip. Recommended.

      Unbelievable Turtle Tour
Our guide Luis was amazing. He went the extra mile for us and didn’t stop until we saw turtles nesting. Because of his perseverance we not only saw one turtle but 7 on our tour and took home a video of one of the turtles laying her eggs. It was amazing and would definitely recommend!!

      Good for kiddos!
Although my daughter and I didn’t see any turtles, our guide was very helpful and informative. He was also good about letting us know in advance that the turtles were out of season and may not be visible at our location and offered to take us to other spots further away for a better chance at seeing them, just in case. Great experience and we caught an a e some sunset on an isolated beach. Gorgeous!

      Bumpy ride!
The guide was the worst driver I have experienced. The turtles were amazing thanks to the second person who met us at the beach. The guide at the last minute presented us a secondary destination due to better nesting. He then refunded us our fee through trip advisor and then charged us double and cash only. He took us two hours though the jungle on the worst roads in Costa Rica and came to skidding stops a dozen different times. We were just happy to make it back safely.

      Beautiful turtle watching experience
My wife and I went on a turtle watching tour with Luis from Sol Eco adventures. Luis was extremely knowledgeable about sea turtle's nesting patterns and provided us a ton of interesting information on the drive over to Playa Minas, where we were planning to observe turtle hatching and egg laying. Even though we were not situated in Tamarindo, Luis drove out to Playa Conchal to pick us up. We were lucky to see a baby turtle hatch and make it to the ocean that day, before sunset so that we could capture the baby sea turtle's beautiful moment in daylight. Unfortunately, an incoming storm prevented us from seeing any nesting adult sea turtles and forced us to leave the beach early. However, we still felt that seeing that one baby sea turtle's daring escape into the ocean was worth it. Luis was also one of the most interesting tour guides I have met in Costa Rica! He was well traveled and we loved hearing his life stories! We would definitely go on one of Sol Eco's adventures in the future.

      True experience
Luis the Legend absolutely gave us the best tour. Luis is so educated in nature + we were so happy to learn so much from him. A true personal experience as it was just Luis, my friend + I on the tour. We drove out + then a short hike through the beach mangroves. We landed at the secluded beach that is a nature preserve, + was carefully guided by Luis. While we didn’t see any mum turtles nesting, we did see babies hatch + run to the water!! So incredible!! Wow…. amazing. Thanks to Luis we had a wonderful experience, plus he safely got us back home. He even provided water + snacks! We loved our time with Luis so much that we booked another half day tour next day! Luis the Legend!!! 🐢

Baby turtles and mamas on May 15th 2023
We had the most amazing evening starting with a beautiful sunset. If that wasn't amazing enough we were fortunate to see 5 baby turtles coming out of different nests and two Mama turtles going to make a nest. It was a life changing and beautiful experience. Our guide Luis was super knowledgeable and gave us all the information we could have wished for about these amazing animals and he kept us informed how to keep a safe distance from the nesting turtles and support the babies into the first few minutes of their little lifes. Thank you do much, we truly loved your tour and will keep this as a life long memory.

Best way to spend your final night in Costa Rica
I didn’t book a private tour, but my family of four just happened to be the only ones to book the tour for that night. Tom took us to a secluded beach away from all the other turtle nesting tours. It’s a small hike in—nothing difficult, but I wouldn’t wear flip flops. We wore our hiking shoes and I was glad we did. We arrived at the beach just as the sun had set and the stars were starting to come out. It was so beautiful. There was only one set of footprints on that beach form the whole day. Far more turtle tracks than anything else. While we waited for turtles, Tom explained about the life cycle of sea turtles and the remarkable way in which they travel to Australia to grow and mate and return to the very beach they were born on in Central America to lay there eggs. It’s truly incredible. As it got dark, we had the privilege of seeing three adult turtles come up on the beach. None of them chose to lay eggs, but we were able to see these remarkable creatures up close. Then we found a nest of baby turtles hatching. The eggs are buried underground. When they hatch they dig themselves out of the nest and work their way towards the ocean. I believe each nest usually has 100-200 eggs. It was amazing to see them all trying to climb their way out and then watching them struggle on down to the ocean. They are adorable! This is such a rare and magical experience and one I know my teens will remember their entire lives. Tom knew right where to go and wasn’t afraid to take us to the place where he knew we could find turtles even if it was a little harder to get to than the place the other guides started out. He was friendly and knowledgeable. You are never guaranteed to see turtles, but your chances are much higher with Tom. And even if we had seen no turtles at all, being on a secluded beach at sunset was pretty amazing by itself.

      Great turtle tour
Really liked how Tom took us to beach early, to see sunset. We got to see both baby turtles hatching and running to the ocean as well as an adult lauing eggs. Super cool for the kids.

If you like your guide to be derisive and sarcastic, then he’s your guy (she says sarcastically). After haranguing us for not getting our phones out of the dry bags to take a photo of the crocodile, when we were just enjoying the moment, he purposefully (I believe) paddled close to it and flushed it, for our experience of seeing the croc move and swim, and as a result the next kayakers immediately after us missed seeing it at all. Then the other group pointed out a troupe of monkeys on the opposite side of the river after we’d gotten out on our side for the walk through the forest, and we hesitated to get back in and paddle over. Tom told us to go see them so we did — of course he was right, the monkeys were great to see up close, especially the babies— but for the remainder of the trip we were subject to repeated snarky comments about oh yeah, didn’t want to see the monkeys, aren’t monkeys boring and not worth seeing, etc etc. One couldn’t help comparing his style to the other group’s Costa Rica guide there with the monkeys, who was welcoming and encouraging and nice. And when Tom started telling us about the trees, and we chimed in among ourselves with questions and comments about the trees, he literally said, are you just going to talk to each other or are you going to listen to what I’m telling you? (Bear in mind this was a tour of just us three friends; there was no one else who we might be disturbing by verbalizing our thoughts.). Overall I feel like you can spend your money on this person, or on a guide who is positive, or at least not overtly insulting.

We met Tom on Tamarindo Beach and he gave me his card.
I prefer take a local tour so I wrote to him.
When I wrote to him I specified that I Wanna see crocodiles, specially our kid.
He proposed us to visit Las baulas in cayak and we booked it.
The day of the tour we arrived at the point of the meeting and Tom told us that he don't have kayak and we are doing the tour in boat, ok but I had prefer to knew it before, and we saw the price in another tour in boat less expensive that his price.
OK we were here so we did it.
But we saw nothing, except trees and few birds.
I know it's nature but if you sell something to see crocodiles go in place where the crocodiles is there.
We did tour with guide before this one and we saw lot of animals and the price was much better.
45 dollars and 20 dollars for kids ( because we asked discount at the end) is too much expensive to do just boat on the mangrove.
I didn't put 1 star because he was friendly but his tour is a trap of tourists like we said in French.

After completing the Turtle Nesting tour with Luis, we wanted to go exploring with him again. This was the perfect adventure! Luis has so much knowledge about nature we were so happy to soak it all up. He taught us so much. We were likely the worst kayakers in the history of kayakers, but we survived to tell the tale. We even saw a big family of Howler Monkeys who came very close - just 9’ away, + put on an amazing show for us. We had a great time exploring the mangroves, learning the history + details about nature. Then we kayaked back. Excellent experience! Luis the Legend is the GOAT!

We had a great boat trip up the estuary with a hike in the jungle. Too windy for the kayak trip, so Tom recommended a switch to the boat trip. So many birds, a young crocodile, monkeys and the iguana. Learned so much from Tom and the boat driver. They kept spotting wildlife where we could hardly see anything. Tom led the hike and has a vast knowledge about the plants and animals. Amazing and highly recommend.

This was a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. It was too windy and the current much too strong to kayak, so we took a boat instead. It ended up being better that way. We started out early in the morning, which seemed to be the best time to go. We saw a wide variety of birds including Parrots, Osprey, Heron, and Hummingbirds. As we made our way into the mangroves, we saw a racoon family climbing through the trees. Right where we planned to leave the boat to hike, we were greeted by a big Crocodile! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna pointing out everything along the way. We ended up seeing monkeys on our hike through the forest and bats hiding in a hollowed out tree. There were even ancient Mayan burial grounds we got to climb up. The excursion really exceeded all of our expectations!

Luis was our guide and Victor piloted our boat - no kayaks for our adventure because of some mechanical issues with their truck, but they did not let that spoil the morning - ventured out promptly at 8a and were able to see a tiny of wildlife including howler monkeys and crocodiles. We did a little hiking as well to take in more of the NP from a different vantage point. Highly recommend this outfitter - thanks Luis & Victor!!!

My wife and I were the only ones that day to book so we had Tom, our guide put us in a double kayak. The equipment showed use but it was in good condition. Tom gave us great instructions and an overview of the trip. My wife and I have kayaking experience and even though we are retired handled 30 minute trip into the park with ease. Tom pointed out many things of interest on the way and guided us to the landing. We have a great interest in nature and found Tom's knowledge of the native plants and animals valuable. He has a extensive history of travel and experience that he was willing to share.

Luis is literal at the worst ever. He rushed the whole tour and it was wildly underwhelming. Do NOT do this tour. He had no plan whatsoever. It started with him yelling at us and belittling our knowledge of kayaking and the local ecology. He was 100 meters ahead of us and yelled when we couldn’t keep up kayaking. He talked about vines for an hour on the hike and didn’t really show anything worth seeing. This is a super tourist trap and a horrible experience. I cannot stress what a terrible experience this was. Again, do NOT DO THIS. This experience was horrible. 0/10 would recommend. Lots of choice words were used to describe the experience but not allowed in the description.

It was quite windy during our stay in Costa Rica so we took a little motor boat out to the estuary. It’s really amazing such a wild and natural place exists right next to tamarindo! Tom (along with our boat driver) were such excellent guides! We spotted all sorts of birds cruising up the mangrove forests. Next we took a hike through the dry forests. We saw a family of howler monkeys which were amazing. Tom explained all about the local trees and plants and we learned so much! It was really a wonderful morning exploring nature. Definitely recommend!

A nice bit of kayaking but there are probably better tours around. The forest you go to has well trodden paths which you follow and it isn’t quite the wilderness we were hoping for.

Having said that we saw some wildlife and interesting plants.

Unfortunately guide was a bit unfriendly and it kind of seemed like we were inconveniencing him by doing the tour, which was a shame. He tried to make us feel a bit stupid because we hadn’t kayaked before, and didn’t weren’t experts on the local nature.

but we all survived. Some basic tips on safety would have been great, since we were travelling with a 5yr old.
