- 1This Buggy (UTV) (Side x side) tour gives you the opportunity to explore the area in an adventurous way by driving along unpaved roads through the mountains and down to the beach. A great tour for anyone looking for some off-the-beaten-track adventure and interested in discovering the natural beauty of the area. Your local bilingual guide will go through the necessary safety instructions and fit you with your googles. You will then have a chance to practice on your fully equipped Honda Buggy (UTV) (Side x side) before heading off along scenic trails into the mountains. On the mountain trail, you will head up into the hills where you can take in the natural beauty of the native flora and fauna of the Guanacaste region. Spot Guanacaste Trees and rare Pochote trees while enjoying the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. On the beach trail, you will head up the coast passing some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica like Puerto viejo and Playa Conchal. You will take a break on a quiet beach with crystal-clear water where you can cool off with a swim in the Pacific Ocean.

- 796joeym0 contributions3 hour ATV beach tourI did a 3 hour ATV tour. Our guide John was amazing! We stopped at a couple of beaches. It was a super great experience! Would definitely recommend this. Especially if John is your guide!Written January 10, 2025
- Ryoder19860 contributionsWOULD 1,000% BOOK AGAINOur tour guide, John, was PHENOMENAL. He was engaging, professional, friendly, and exceeded our expectations. We would definitely book again!Written January 5, 2025
- hothsolo0 contributionsShortchangedFour hour tour was only 3 hours and 10 minutes. When I asked for a partial refund, the owner refused and said it was our own fault because we were too good at driving and thus finished early. All the advertising clearly state a TIME of four hours, not a “course” to run and if you get back early, tough luck. They should have just kept going for at least another half hour because that’s what we paid for.Written January 1, 2025
- Emmet O0 contributionsGreat tour with Brian. amazing scenery.I definitely recommend Action Tours. Casey, the owner, and Brian, the tour guide, looked after us brilliantly. Casey checked us in for our 3 hour tour for Bahia de Los Pirates. The tour was incredible and Brian took us to all the best viewing points and beaches along the way. He also managed to find a family of howler monkeys on the way home. We would do another tour if we had more days in Tamarindo!Written December 28, 2024
- 997tamairap0 contributionsUnprofessional and rudeBooked this excursion and showed up for our reservation only to be told they couldn’t take us because “they didn’t see our reservation”. We checked out of our Airbnb early to drive to this excursion before we left town. The guy was not apologetic and was very rude, for an error they made. We still have not yet received our refund because he “couldn’t do it there”. Very unprofessional. He also blamed us because we booked the excursion at 9pm and said “you expected me to be on my phone at 9pm?”. Then why let us book it? Terrible experience! We found a company right down the road that was AWESOME and cheaper!! Tamarindo Dreaming - five stars!!!Written August 20, 2024

- SamerK1450 contributionsSave your money, book elsewhere.I've been on at least 8 different ATV tours around the world including one other in Costa Rica, this was by far the worst one I've been on. Ronny was an absolutely miserable guide - rude, condescending, and not informative at all and the owners of this company should take SERIOUS note of this. I cant speak on the other guides but he is actually terrible. He made several off handed comments during the tour and just seemed miserable and impatient the whole time. We had to give him a lecture on coordinating instructions with a large group including some beginners after he got angry with part of our group not heeding his hand gestures because they couldnt see how many fingers he was holding up from 200m away. Honestly ridiculous. The front brake was completely disabled which made stopping on a whim very dangerous as we had to rely wholly on the rear break. On several cases with the momentum of two riders on a single ATV going downhill with some speed required some experienced swerving and maneuvering to avoid crashing into riders ahead of us who got stuck on the difficult terrain because the brakes were simply inadequate. Before the tour, some riders in our group asked how to use the reverse function and Ronny insisted that we would not need it and refused to show us. Early on in the tour we had difficult terrain and a sharp turn that nearly sent two ATVs off of a cliff. The riders were stuck with their front wheels partly off the edge of the road without the knowledge of how to reverse. Ronny and the group continued down the hill and it took him a long time before he realized he lost some riders and had to go back and pull their vehicles back into safety simply because they didnt know how to shift into reverse. Ronny expressed no concern, only frustration at the drivers inexperience and had no reservations in voicing his displeasure. The mood was killed for the rest of the tour right from the start. About half of the tour was incredibly dusty enough to reduce visibility from the ATVs ahead of us. We had no expectation of this or opportunity to do anything to protect us from inhaling mouthfuls of dirt. We also crossed paths with two other ATV tour where everyone had bandanas or masks and we can only presume that they were given the bandanas or at least informed and had the opportunity to prepare in advance to deal with the insane amount of dust. At the beach stop my wife asked me to help her take off her helmet, I reached up to help her and Ronny nudged my hand away stating "she has to learn on her own" and continued to show her how to take it off herself, it was strangely aggressive and risked a confrontation with me in the process. By the end of the stop we gave him some gentle remarks that the group was not at all pleased with him and his tone had changed and he assured us the second half was a more gentle ride but it was far too late, no one was having a good time with him. There were a number of other small incidents and off handed comments throughout the trip that I wont speak to but it left a bad taste in the group. At the end of the tour he explicitly asked us for a tip... lol. ATV were a 5/10. They worked okay but the disabling of front brakes weren't a good idea especially on an intermediate terrain. Tour guide was a 2/10. Anything worse would have led to a full out confrontation but he really towed the line. Trail 6/10. Besides the dust it was an OK trail, not very scenic and partly challenging, some of it was on main streets and it made some beginners feel unsafe but as an intermediate rider it was fun for me and there were good opportunities to drive faster than what some might expect around ~50kmph.Written March 31, 2024
- Justin T0 contributionsSet up like a scamBooked in advance and when we arrived was told we needed to take a ride test first. The test was someone sitting behind you throwing hand signals you could not see on when to switch gears because they are manual ATVs. Told us both we failed and needed to pay more to drive the other vehicles. Refused and just wanted money back but they said no refunds. Finally they relented and let us ride test again and passed to then be taken on a tour where the tour "guide" spent the trip making donkey sounds to harass women we passed and being forced to buy a drink at the beach or we wouldn't leave. Bottom line go elsewhere or at least don't book in advance unless you are sure you can handle a manual ATV.Written March 26, 2024
- 850Pike0 contributionsAwesome time with Action Tours TamarindoMy wife and I booked two trips with Action tours Tamarindo. The first trip was a night tour from 4:00 - 7:00. We visited several beaches, and small beachside bar for a great drink. The second trip was from 9;00-4:00. We rode up the coast on back roads stopping at various Playa beaches, and great nestled in the woods hotel lunch spot. Both trips were with Ronnie and we could have had a better guide. He was the life of the tour. It’s a must do tour.Written February 18, 2024
- eaa7950 contributionsDangerous equipment; buzzed guideRented four ATVs. Equipment is not well maintained. Tires bald making turns dangerous. Front brakes disabled “for our security.” UTV on the tour broke down. Guide drank alcohol at the two stops.Written January 18, 2024
- dillonp20240 contributionsSave the $290, rent a car. We felt duped and would not recommend. Our friends sent us an online brochure with pictures of a an incredible looking night tour with decked out UTVs traveling to the beach at night with bioluminescent algae, mind blowing imagery of star gazing etc. Trip was supposed to be $200 for a driver and passenger. We got there and they said it was going to be $240 for the tour instead of the $200 advertised. I asked him if he would honor the $200 price we were looking at and he had a million reasons why he couldn’t honor the price and told me to prove that we actually saw that price because it didn’t exist. After we showed him the online brochure, he said that price was for UTVs he didn’t have anymore. The trip was literally driving the main roads to Pirates Bay in a UTV and taking a few dirt roads along the way. We stopped and looked at a couple of old trees too. No stars on the beach, no bioluminescent algae, no lit up tricked out UTV. We ended up paying $290 per UTV (3 ppl) for three hours. It was nothing more than the old “bait and switch”…. Sell you on one thing, deliver something completely different. By the time we got back to Tamarindo, the owner was nowhere to be found. Bring your own goggles. There is so much dust that gets through their old goggles that your eyelids get dust in them and you can barely see. They will try and charge you to take pictures and they take you to a bar at the beach where they try to get you to buy food and drinks. That said, Pirates Bay is beautiful and we got some good pictures at sunset. The UTVs were new and the tour guide actually let you have some fun in them. If you’re looking to try out cool machines, you don’t mind the dust, and you want to go see Pirates Bay for $300, this is for you.Written January 8, 2024
- 214katek0 contributionsGreat place to rent a cart for the week!We were very happy with the golf cart rental process. Our concern at first was that we might not get a cart, but they were very kind and accommodating and managed to get in and out super easily! If you are staying in Tamarindo w/more than one person, the golf cart is SO much better than renting a car. Frankly, you can walk the entire city no problem (the main drag is pretty flat) but it’s nice when the sun is high to not have to walk as much and be under a shade. The electric cart was quiet, ecological, and a great choice for our family! We are so grateful for this company (who also do some fun adventure tours, but we didn’t try those out so we can’t speak to it) but the rental prices were fair (even with the tack-on for high season). Be prepared to pay cash (American) as well as the $500 deposit (returned upon return of charged cart). Highly recommend going this route for getting around the area with ease and comfort!Written January 1, 2024

Had a blast going to the different beaches. The 4 seat ATV is the way to go. Gabby was the best guide. Funny, informative and kept us on time. At one of the beaches, she even rescued a lady further down the beach that was very dehydrated and barely conscious without missing a beat! Highly recommend,!

After an initial mess up by me on times we were meet by Ronnie our tour guide who showed us all we needed to know about the UTV we were using
We left the base going on all the dirt roads through the forests
Ronnie kept his eyes out for any wild life and didn’t disappoint we saw two lots of Howler monkeys
Stopping at 3 beaches we were able to swim in all of them but we chose to keep the last beach as a swim getting more time there
We stopped twice for drinks
All in all a great trip made much more enjoyable by our guide Ronnie who knew just about everyone in the area
Great guide and a great bloke(we also meet two of his kids on the way round)

Got rained out on our first attempt, but we are SO glad we re-booked. Gabby was an amazing guide and helped us trek to three beautiful beaches. Allowing us time to explore, swim, relax, or drink at each location. Because we had time left over at the end, she took us to one last beach outside of Tamarindo. The equipment is well taken care of, clean, and the communication from the owners was top notch! If you love riding ATVs or UTVs, then this is the tour for you and will allow you to explore the lovely trails surrounding Tamarindo and see some of the most beautiful beaches in the area!

This was excellent fun from start to finish. Very dusty so don't wear a white t-shirt but worth getting messy. Great adventure driving the buggy and plenty of time to spend on deserted beaches. Very good value for money and fantastic guide
