Night Turtle Nesting Tour from Tamarindo
Head out into the Cosa Rican night in search of Green Pacific and Olive Ridley sea turtles laying their eggs on Playa Grande. During this 4-hour evening tour from Tamarindo, you may even see baby turtles hatching, depending on the conditions. National park fees included.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group at the Native's Way tour office, located in front of La Oveja Negra Hostel, just west of the Banco Nacional in downtown Tamarindo. Meeting time is at 6pm, just after sunset. Turtles can be seen year around, but October to April is the peak season for turtle nesting.

Travel to a protected beach, Playa Grande, approximately 30 minutes away via tour vehicle. Once there, climb out and spend time watching nature take its course: Green Pacific and Olive Ridley turtles laying their eggs. You may even see Leatherback turtles (very rare) or turtle eggs hatching and babies making their way to the sea.

Flash photography and flashlights are prohibited, but your guide will use a special red light that does not disturb the turtles.

At the conclusion of your tour, get dropped off back at your hotel.

We pre-booked 2 tours with Native’s Way prior to arriving in-country in February: the turtle nesting tour and the Tamarindo Estuary tour. If we had to do all over again, we’d choose a different tour company. Communication via email about where to meet for the...More

Quite a treat

This was a longer activity than expected. The trip to and from the location was about 1 hour each way from central Tamarindo, surprising considering it's pretty close as the crow flies. We spent about 3 hours on the beach watching the turtles, which were...More

Not a great tour

Not super impressed with this tour. From the moment we got in the bus, the guide started telling us that we probably wouldn’t see turtles because the moon wasn’t clear enough. He did not have enough flashlights for everyone in the group. None of the...More

Wondrous evening experience - quiet and peaceful yet very exciting. Our guide was great. He took us to two different beaches where we were able to see Pacific Green turtles going back into the sea - they had changed their minds about nesting that day!...More

What a fun evening for the family. A little bit of hiking (wear good shoes) but nothing overly strenuous. The guides were great and met up with someone who had pre-scouted to make sure we went to the right place where the turtles were heading...More
