About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Scenic7953900 contributionsGreat experience, great price and lots of fun! From the pick up at the hotel to the drop off the experience was top notch. Big boat = less chance for sea sickness. Catalinas is a quick boat ride. The dive masters were profession, courteous and skilled. They knew where to take the group for the best and safest experience. They stopped on the way back so we could do some whale watching. Super fun!!Written September 13, 2024
- GoPlaces4538840 contributionsGreat experience all around!Angie and Tim were absolutely wonderful on our diving trip. Not to mention all of the marine life we saw on our dive as well! If we ever come back to this area I know where we will be diving through.Written September 7, 2024
- andrewsN1053NP0 contributionsGreat Dive Master - Memorable Diving ExperienceThe staff were all friendly and professional. Sam was our Dive Master and did an excellent job going over the details and preparing us well for the two dives. He took some amazing footage of the dive also. These are relatively straightforward dives. The unique aspect of the Catalinas is that it is primarily volcanic rock with little to no coral. The numbers of fish is astounding with massive schools of different varieties filling your view constantly. We saw close to 10 white tipped reef sharks, 7-8 Southern Rays, lots of Moray's, a turtle and an Octopus. The highlight was hearing the mother and calf Humpback Whales calling to each other in the water as we were diving. The visibility is lower than most places you will dive in the Caribbean and Pacific coast but it is the reason it is filled with larger fish as they chase the plankton. Be prepared for the lower viz, and the coral-less rock and you will find this a very enjoyable and different dive. One that you will remember for good reason.Written September 5, 2024

- NienkeBlack0 contributionsGreat crew to dive with!I went diving with the Pacific Coast crew for 4 straight days and they were incredible! Their staff was friendly, professional, safety conscious, and also kept things fun and lighthearted. We saw some amazing things - sharks, rays, morays, octopuses, turtles, and tons of fish. I especially enjoyed their pre-dive psych up music that they played to get us ready for the dive. Great operation and would definitely dive with them again!Written August 16, 2024
- 174keithj0 contributionsSnorkel tripOur experience was okay. But I thought the boat was too crowded and that the way they tried to drop off and pick up divers in different spots than the snorkelers was awkward and added a lot of unnecessary waiting time for snorkelers both in and out of the water. Staff were very attentive. Snacks were healthy, but minimal.Written August 16, 2024
- whitfies0 contributionsFantasticToday we completed our PADI Open Water Training / certification with Pacific Coast Dive Centre, having done the first half in the Maldives and then completing here. Despite the slight complication of starting training elsewhere, they were super amenable to helping us complete our training, and full credit has to go to Jose who was super trainer extraordinaire ! Super friendly and helpful and patient with us, especially during a couple of wobbles. I can’t imagine a better person to guide us through. On the dives we saw tons of fish, couple of octopuses, eels, a shark, starfish, puffer fish etc. He took a ton of pics for us and is a great ambassador for the sport. Thanks again Jose !Written August 9, 2024
- andrewnX9152EQ0 contributionsTerrible snorkeling experience - lots of seasickness and very long trip due to oversold boatThis was our family's last full day in Costa Rica and we highly regret taking our Tamarindo hotel's recommendation to do this excursion. We signed up for snorkeling and were told it was "about a 4 hour trip" but instead was a 7.5 hour round trip from our hotel. We only got 40 good minutes of snorkeling out of it but my daugther was so seasick by that point that she couldn't even enjoy that part of it. The boat was very oversold - 25 snorkelers and about 25 scuba divers. This created lots of waiting (especially to drop off all of the groups of scuba divers at their stops). The water was very choppy - made even worse by having to stop in lots of choppy waters to drop off the various groups of scuba divers. My teenage kids who are both good swimmers and have lots of experience in boating were seasick and threw up (there were at least 4 others on the trip who threw up as well). Shame on us for not preparing with dramamine but our hotel hadn't warned us it would be so choppy with so much waiting. The first snorkeling spot was good with lots of fish - the second was bad (I think this was probably a good scuba dive site but incredibly choppy surface waters and very little fish to be seen).Written August 9, 2024
- pf5110 contributionsOversold Tour made for a Rough DayThe dive was pretty well organized but way oversold. Divers couldn't hear important instructions because there were different groups in the same space - some were working on their certs, there were snorkelers, and the instructors were yelling over each other. And because the boat was so full, drops and pick-ups took longer and on a rough sea day, that's an unprofessional way to operate. Our dive leader was respectful of the environment which we appreciated, but I would not recommend this company.Written August 8, 2024

- Y7367MLjustink0 contributionsGabi Marino is the guy you want!!!!Wow..... what an amazing 3 days. My family went from zero experience to certified open water divers over 4 days. We trained Friday, Saturday, had Sunday off, and finished up on Monday. This was a great pace of training and I would certainly recommend it. Our instructor was Gabi Marino. Gabi is a holistic teacher in the ocean. While there are specific skills that must be mastered, the practicing of them is part and parcel to the diving. This makes the whole experience very enjoyable and left us all wanting to keep diving. We saw a manta ray, a turtle, several other rays, moray eels, lots of sharks, and innumerable fish. We are so glad the universe brought Gabi to us and you should hope he is available for you too.Written July 24, 2024
- colev4410 contributionsStaff/and crew made this an unforgettable experienceWe had a tremendous experience made all the better by the staff! Jose kept stopping to show us marina life we would have completely missed and the female diving member (sorry, I can't recall your name) helped my young daughter several times. The ride there and back was smooth thanks to the expertise of the crew.Written July 18, 2024

We had a very unfortunate experience with this company. We paid extra for them to pick us up at a location they use at 7:30am. We arrived at 7:24am and no one ever came.
They claimed they were there at 7:18am, however no one was there when we arrived. The 2 confirmations we received said they would pick us up at 7:30am! PLEASE be aware of what they mean in regards to time. No refund was ever given, and no snorkeling we are VERY disappointed! We were really looking forward to this trip 🙁.

My partner had not dived before we spent the day with Pacific Coast Dive Center. I was impressed with the clear communication and thorough safety brief in the swimming pool before we went out into the ocean.
I am a qualified diver- but they allowed us to dive together with Jose, who was clearly both an experienced instructor and a passionate diver. He made us both feel at ease and gave us a safe opportunity to share two excellent dives where we saw sharks, eels, starfish, and a wide variety of other underwater life.
I would thoroughly recommend Pacific Coast if you're looking for a secure way to try your first diving experience.

From beginning to end this novice diving journey for my husband and I was exceptional. It has been something my husband has wanted to do for many years. I was going simply to be supportive, but with some hesitancy. Our dive instructor/guide, Risky, made it all incredibly easy to enjoy. He was an excellent teacher. He allayed my fears immediately. The instruction was clear and comprehensive.
Once we were on the dive, he juggled three beginners with ease. He made us all feel safe and confident. Any issues or questions were handled with patience and kindness. Risky was a
Wonderful example of the phenomenal service provided by Pacific Coast Diving.
Each diver, crew member, office employee and captain was fabulous! We have gained a new hobby due to this company. We highly recommend Pacific Coast Diving for your scuba and snorkeling tours!

We made the right decision booking our scuba trip with Pacific Coast Dive Center. The staff was phenomenal! Especially our dive guide, Eze. I hadn’t scuba dived in over 20 years and my wife and son had no experience, and Eze made the whole experience smooth and seamless! We were all a little nervous and Eze walked us through everything and totally calmed our nerves. He especially helped my son who at first had some issues equalizing his ears. He worked with him patiently and got us all exploring and we saw a white tipped reef shark, octopus, moray eels, crabs, starfish and so many tropical fish. I’d highly recommend to beginners or experienced divers!

I had an amazing experience diving off of Catalina Island. It was my first time diving, and as a sola female traveler I was a little nervous but the whole crew was great and I ended up loving diving. Jose was my group's instructor and he was fantastic and made sure we were safe the entire time. He showed us different wildlife while we explored and took pictures/videos that we were able to purchase for an incredibly reasonable price (bring cash). We saw so many different kinds of fish, a sea turtle, white-tipped reef sharks, octopuses, eels, rays, starfish, and pufferfish. I can't wait for my next dive!

I had never been scuba diving before, and had a great first experience with Pacific Coast Dive Center, as they offer a beginner course for non-certified divers. Our instructor/guide, Sebastian, was friendly, welcoming, and patient as I was very nervous and anxious. He walked us through all of the safety procedures, made us all feel comfortable and confident during our pool training, and kept close tabs on our group while we were underwater. He grabbed incredible photos of us and the beautiful creatures we got to experience that day from turtles to eels to starfish to rays! It was also great that we got to go out on the same boat as our family that wanted to snorkel instead of scuba, and one person in our group is scuba certified and got to dive down much deeper than us, and heard humpback whales in the distance! I highly recommend Pacific Coast Dive Center for all experience levels if you're wanting to get in some amazing water activities!

We had a fantastic experience with the Pacific Coast Dive Center! Some in our group had zero dive experience and others had been certified many years ago. We found the equipment to be in great shape (some of us even received brand new wetsuits) and the whole operation to be extremely efficient and safety oriented. But the real stars were our lovely guides: Maria, Gaston, Marco, Andres, and all the rest. All were so, so kind and so patient, even with our nervousness. They are real professionals, helping us every step of the way, and took lots of pictures on our dive. We were lucky to have great conditions in the water and saw sharks, devil rays, and so many colorful fish. Thank you to the staff for making this an unforgettable experience!

Wow what an amazing experience with the whole crew here, but especially Luna. My son who is 11 and I decided to use them for our open water certification, we completed the online prior to our travel and showed up on the first morning as instructed. We of course where a little nervous, but soon felt like the team has been our friends for ever. Luna our instructor took good care of us in the pool and out in the ocean for our 4 certification open water dives. What a great experience, we saw a million different fish, multiple manta rays and reef sharks. But what was best is how organized the whole experience was. We went back for dive 5/6 a few days later. If you are looking to become an open water dives or just try it out, I would totally recommend them. I 've done some diving else where and nothing compares to the waters off Costa Rica, and the team they have.

Bucket list experience today diving off Catalina island with Gaston of Pacific Coast Dive Center. It was my first ever five and I will never forget it. We swam with several white tipped reef sharks, Giant Manta Rays rays, spotted Eagle rays, schools of fish of all kinds. Gaston was an excellent dive instructor and really blamed our fears (there were only two of us in our five group so we got the perfect amount of attention, assistance and freedom). Got to do two 40 minute dives at a very reasonable price. Can’t wait to see the video Gaston took of the giant ray that flipped over upside down and floated up underneath us as we were ending our dive. I can’t recommend this excursion enough.

If you want a life-changing spiritual experience without psychedelic drugs, I highly recommend the Pacific Coast Dive center. I went on my first dive alone with no prior experience, and was met by the warm, safe and professional guide Gaby. Even though I was initially very nervous, I quickly understood that my safety and comfort were top priorities, along with having a joyous experience. I got to join a boat of other divers and snorkelers and immediately felt taken care of and part of a cohort. Every step of the way, Gaby was by my side to offer me reassurance and care. I got to swim with turtles, sharks, eels, clown fish, sea serpents and even glimpsed a very rare manta ray. The Catalina islands are magical. Seeing under the sea is such an incredibly rare and beautiful experience that made me want to fight harder for this planet and its creatures.
