Knowledgeable staff and in depth tour
We did the full day tour with Andrew and I couldn't recommend it more to have a in depth understanding of the coffee process. Stunning location, good pace, great info and very friendly and knowledge tour guide. I initially thought it was a little expensive (priced at $100) but I really believe was worth it, and more! The food included was also wonderful. So if you get the chance, go for it. And make sure to take swimming stuff for the waterfall!

Family of 3 loved the horseback tour
We loved our tour of the farm, my daughter especially loved riding the horses, who were very well cared for and easy to ride. The end of the tour at the hacienda with coffee and cake was perfect, the setting is amazing. We only wish we would have booked a stay at the hacienda because it was so nice.

      Highly Recommend!
We did the horseback riding tour, which was lovely. The Aquiares waterfall was a highlight (bring your swim suit if you want to take a dip!). Our guides were super friendly and shared so much information. The seating at the restaurant afterwards was breathtaking. I wish we could have stayed for lunch!

      Such a great experience
A big highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. The house is beautiful, the grounds are like the garden of Eden. The staff was so unbelievably pleasant and kind that it felt like you were staying with family. We did the 4-hour horseback tour and our guides, Andrew and Christian, were extremely knowledgeable and just an overall great hang. The views were stunning— it felt like a tour of paradise, including the scenic waterfall we detoured. Only regret was not staying long enough and as soon as we got in the car to leave we felt sad to depart. Can’t praise Aquiares enough—will definitely return here for an even longer stay.

Immerse yourself in a coffee experience
What an amazing experience! We had a lovely drive through the mountains to reach Aquaires. We were greeted by Andrew and started with a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, breads and the most delicious passionfruit jam I have tasted. We then met the horses and took off through the coffee plantation. I'm not an avid rider, but the horse was gentle and easy to ride. We stopped to pick coffee beans to get an idea of what the typical worker would have to accomplish to earn a wage. Trust me - this is an experience. We then rode the horses and hiked a little to a beautiful waterfall. After returning to the Casa we had a lovely lunch, followed by a tour of where the coffee is processed. During all this time, Andrew was there to answer any questions that might arise and to share a wealth of knowledge regarding coffee, the plantation and Costa Rica in general. The coffee tour was very informative, starting with the growth of the coffee plants all the way to the final bagging. We were lucky enough to do a cupping session because we wanted to buy green coffee beans in bulk to bring back to our cafe in the states. The rest of the group did a coffee tasting. This was the highlight of our trip and we learned so much. the experience is a memory made with so much to learn and remember. I highly recommend.

You will be well looked after!
Traditional snacks and coffee at the Hacienda to start with. We were staying there already so it wasn’t out of the ordinary as we were very well fed every day! Calm and seemingly unflappable horses; beautiful views; lots of lovely photos to take home. As novice riders we felt safe and even somewhat confident! Caesar our tour guide was full of information - but it’s a lot to take in while concentrating on riding 😉 - and Christian, the stable manager, led the way making sure the track was clear. Andrew was learning the ropes of being a tour guide so we were very spoilt for attention. This is more a tour of the whole coffee plantation with information about the growing and harvesting of the bean rather than learning about the bean to cup coffee making process.

A very special day off of the typical tourist beat
Cesar and Christen were our horseback ride guides. They took us on a magical tour of the coffee farm along the way sharing the history of coffee and this very special place. We made two extraordinary stops along the way where we appreciated the unique mountain setting and fantastic views. The last time we were on horseback was many years ago. No issues with our guides they were very kind and patient we never felt out of control with these well trained horses. And if that was not enough, we enjoyed a wonderful multi-course luncheon in the historical inn that decades ago provided overnight accommodations for traveling coffee buyers. The lunch was a real treat on an outside veranda overlooking a beautiful garden. Everyone of the staff we encountered made us feel welcome and special. And the coffee at the end of our meal was delicious!!

      Gotta try this.
This was a great tour through the coffee trees learning the process and all about the landscape. Being on horseback makes it even better. Our guide knew a ton and was eager to share everything he knew.

This was an amazing experience. Starting in the coffee trees and following the whole process of what it takes to get a cup of coffee is amazing. Everyone there is super knowledgeable and passionate about the craft. Makes it even better.

      Great experience
What a lovely day~! The coffee farm is amazing..the horses were sweet...the waterfall was fantastic and cooling to be near...and the guides were super kind and well informed, about the history of the farm, how coffee is grown, and some of the history of the Indigenous people from the Aquiares area. Am still enjoying the coffee I bought at the store. Very worthwhile.

We arrived 2 hours early at the building of Aquiares and our guide invited us to come with him to the Aquiares Hacienda for the time in between. There we could rest from our journey at this beautiful place and were served fresh coffee which they didn’t want us to pay for.
Our tour was brilliant: coincidentally it was just the two of us for the tour at 2pm. So to say we had a private tour. It was very interesting and informative and entertaining and authentic. Our guide was very likeable and took all the time we needed for the questions so that in the end we were there for nearly 3 hours instead of the 2 it usually takes. Something that might distinguish the tour at the Aquiares facility is that they both have automated processes for the fully washed beans they produce but they also produce small batches of specialty coffee where they ferment the beans or take them through specific handmade processes. So one can see the whole bandwith of coffee production and all steps in the process.
All in all it was a great experience and probably the best tour we had so far in our stay.
    I can totally recommend it.

We really recommend this tour. We had the chance to be the only two persons within the group and had a more than 2 hours fantastic tour with Andrew. He started explaining the history of the region while putting Aquiares in this context. We had a short tour in the property and the plantation. We then moved to the industry and how the coffee is being processed, and finished with a tasting of natural and honey coffee from the farm.
Andrew is very knowledgeable on coffee topics and we could ask all the questions we had.

We had a great tour at Aquiares, just outside Turriabla. Ceaser was our most excellent guide. He spoke nearly perfect English and was both interesting and entertaining. He certainly has a thorough grasp of the coffee business. The tour was certainly more than 2 the advertised hours but worth every minute. It was not just about coffee but embraced the development and culture of the Aquiares Community.

Most interesting (in a hugely interesting visit) was to see the coffee tasters doing the tasting.

Many thanks too to Manuel who was engaging and informative.

It was a wonderful experience. Our guide took us through the whole process, very interesting even for the non coffee lovers. He gladly answered all our questions. The little village of Aquiares and the landscape around the farm is astonishing and couldn’t say enough about the quality of the coffee, simply extraordinary

This place is nestled down in the valley so make sure you have good directions. We took an off-road adventure and got there but I think google maps was confused. 🤣 The staff were so friendly and accommodating and made us coffee as we waited. The small church and history was a nice addition too. Our guide had so much knowledge to share and the taste testing of coffee coffee was fun too!!. If you want to learn about coffee I couldn’t imagine anyplace being more friendly and knowledgeable staff. And a plus is a spectacular Sabo tree.

Excellent tour (and tour guide Nicole). Very informative and full of fascinating details about the history of coffee and culture surrounding it. We also had excellent weather, so it made everything that bit nicer.
On the down side, some extra safety features could be added to the steps and railings going up to the Mirador, as my father slipped and fell down. This was more circumstantial, but still a point to make everything extra safe. Five out of five however!

We were the only guests on the coffee tour. Our guide was able to answer all of our questions and showed us the plantation and the coffee farm. He was (rightly) proud of what Aquiares has achieved without hiding any problems. We now know why we will no longer drink coffee at a global US retail company and franchiser. We understand what makes good coffee. And we learned a lot about the history of Costa Rica. Almost at the end we were able to try different coffees.
In the shop a salesperson sold us beans in German with a Bavarian accent.
What more could you want :-)

A great way to spend a few hours and I don't even like coffee! We arrived early and they set us up with coffee and cookies for no extra charge!

The friendly, knowledgable tour guide, beautiful surroundings, and lots of learning and some tasting too made this a great experience for us.

The taxi driver wasn't sure where to let us off - it's located by the big yellow church - Costa Rica isn't big on signage. Such a gift to see the huge Trees of Life. Wearing running shoes.

    Salut!

We can absolutely recommend the coffee tour and the visit to the associated hacienda near the authentic Turrialba. Under the expert and friendly guidance of Manuel (who speaks very good German!), we learned a lot about the complex process of coffee production, which made us enjoy this drink even more. Lunch at the hacienda was also great. Friendly staff in a warm atmosphere that makes you feel at home.
