Awesome tour, you don't want to miss this!
We chose the Manuel Antonio tour because it seemed to provide the most comprehensive experience. The tour was fun, educational, dynamic and delicious! Gregory was the best part of our experience. He was funny, knowledgeable and patient with our big group. We did this tour with a group of 5 friends and a couple. Gregory git every one of us involved, answered all of our questions and provided a really interesting tour. We learned about cacao, vanilla, coffee, and all the local plants on the plantation. We learned about the entire process of turning cacao into chocolate as well as the history and evolution of cacao. we also got a very interesting lesson about coffee and history of coffee in Costa Rica. We got to taste the drink of the Gods and to taste coffee and chocolate with different fruit, other spices and flavors. We loved this tour and highly recommend Gregory as a guide on this fascinating tour that stimulated all of the senses.

        Wonderful tour!
We had a fabulous tour with Juan. His ability to engage with participants and to share knowledge of the historical background of cacao as well as current practices and processes was second to none. He had knowledge also of many other plants and their uses that was fascinating. His ability to make it interesting and fun created a wonderful experience! Highly recommended!

        Way more than chocolate!!!!
Juan Campos, our guide, was fabulous! His English was great. He was extremely knowledgeable about eco-medicine and plant cultivation, including cacao, coffee, sugar cane, spices and herbs. He had us smelling spice leaves, tasting cacao, enjoying his re-creation of meso-American hot chocolate, trying Arabica coffee, and downing fresh fruit bites with fresh spices drizzled with liquid chocolate made on the spot. It was scrumptious and educational. Juan, you were the best and thank you for a great experience and your passion. For those of you who haven't met Juan, book this tour!!! LindaPojman, February 2023

An Amazing, Tasty Tour with Juan
The chocolate tour with Juan C. was so much fun! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history behind the production of chocolate and all kinds of plants. He was funny, personable, and made the tour interactive for everyone. We had an introduction to the cacao bean, a short walking tour, and then a tasting. Our group got to help make the chocolate and try several different kinds of chocolate (including my favorite, a cup of fresh mango with chili powder, salt, cinnamon, and melted cacao chocolate). It also included some fresh drinks. After the tour, you can purchase chocolate, coffee, and some beautiful handmade cups, mugs, and plates. This was one of my favorite things I did during my two-week trip to Costa Rica. It’s especially great if you want something that’s a little more relaxing but still a lot of fun!

You won't regret this magnificent experience in Manuel Antonio!
We booked a chocolate tour with Juan and we've had an experience we will never forget. Juan is very knowledgeale and will make you enjoy every minute of it, while making you understand so easily all the process in making the chocolate that everyone of us knows; while telling you the important history behind these magnificent seeds, he will show you how to get to the final step of what we think as chocolate nowadays, from cutting the fruit and their fermentation. It's an awesome experience also for children, very educational. Highly recommend, you won't regret!

This tour was so much more educational than I expected! We learned about cacao but also Coffee, cinnamon and so much more. We ate the raw beans. I loved them! We ate the nibs. Yum! Tasted chocolate as it was first brewed (with cayenne!) even a drink from fresh squeezed sugar cane at the end. Guide was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions. Highly recommend

        Great Tour
Super fun and educational tour of farm growing cacao, vanilla, coffee, and sugar cane. Gregory, our guide, was funny, entertaining and very informative about local growing of all these. He took us through the farm area and pointed out many different plants and creatures. Best, we watched as cacao nibs, hot chocolate, and then cacao dipping sauce were prepared for us. Gregory and his assistant also prepared coffee for us from fresh beans and instructed some children in our group how to crush sugar cane to create juice that we also drank. A fun and delicious tour!

Fantastic tour! So informative and fun at the same time. Beautiful location only 20ish mins from downtown MA. Brian was a great, welcoming and knowledgeable guide. Loved getting to taste the freshly roasted cacao beans, delicious hot chocolate and coffee! Our 7 year old loved the tour too. Brian was great about including the kiddos. Highly recommend!

Visiting Costa Rica for the first time, we were extremely excited to lean more about the delicious coffee and chocolate we had heard so much about. At the beginning, Brian was able to offer an entertaining and delightful history about the cacao beans. We had scrumptious samples and were taken on a quick tour of their own supply of growing trees(with coffee and cacao beans). When we arrived at a gorgeous, open, outdoor kitchen; we started right away in how to make chocolate. Our stuffed tummies were delighted to try chocolate in its purest form, while being able to try new combinations to our own liking. Soon after, we moved onto coffee. After Brian helped educated and entertain us with the history of these tasty products, we were able to see/meet two very friendly oxen. Our two boys had the chance to make sugar cane juice as we came to the end of our tour. Overall, we all had an amazing, memorable time. I can say with confidence that everyone in my family thoroughly enjoyed this interactive tour and I would 10/10 recommend. Brian was an hardworking, insightful, funny, knowledgeable, and kind(especially with the kiddos). He made our experience all the most pleasant. If you are considering this tour, go for it! If your visiting Costa Rica, this is a tour you wouldn’t wanna miss.

We took at tour with Brian and had a a wonderful time. He was incredibly knowledgeable, very accommodating of another family with 2 toddlers and children with nut allergies. He was very honest about some cross contamination with nuts but it ok for children who can tolerate nuts in the same facility level of allergies.

He was a great guide. We learnt about hallucinogenic plants, coffee, chocolate, pineapples and sugarcane. He helped us get some great pictures too.

We had great fun trying out all the steps to make chocolate and sugarcane juice including trying to imitate oxen.

We tasted chocolate with 15 different kinds of flavorings like hibiscus, cinnamon etc.

We had a wonderful time ! Thank you so much Brian !

Had a great time on this tour. Booking was easy, very responsive, and if you don't buy a SIM card in Costa Rica you can message them using WhatsApp (very easy communication). Loved the education on the tour about cacao, coffee in Costa Rica and cane sugar. It was so fun tasting the chocolate and drinks. Coffee was great. Cane sugar demonstration was really fun. Thanks for the great day!

I visited the chocolate farm during my short stay in Manuel Antonio. The booking was quite easy and the response was quick and reliable. Although I was a Single Traveller it was no problem to join a group. After the pick up nice on time we had a 15min drive through a green and blooming jungle to the farm. After arriving our tour guide Brian explained everything you need to know about the cultivation of organic chocolate and other plants like coffee or sugar cane they provide on the farm. I was surprised about the all around knowledge of the hole process and interactive and passionated presentation. My highlight was definitely the “kitchen part” where we produced our own magic chocolate potion and tasted chocolate with different flavors. The tour ended with a typical Costa Rica coffee ritual and a self pressed sugar cane drink. So yummy! There is a small shop, if you wanna buy some chocolate or coffee. But it’s not a pushy thing. So all in all a very good trip I would highly recommend.

My family loved this tour! We learned so much about chocolate, coffee, and sugar cane, and Brian made every part interactive and engaging (not to mention delicious). I would highly recommend this chocolate tour as well as other tours by Terra Travel if you are going to the Manuel Antonio area. We did several and they were fabulous.

I toured the local cacao plantation yesterday. The tour covered biology, history, culture, chemistry, the relationship between land and air and son all in the context of learning about cacao. I discovered health benefits and learned the difference between tri-bromines and their beneficial effects and the street buzz of caffeine.

And I to to play 'oxen' for a few minutes and help turn a 200 year old press, made in Hillsboro, Ohio in 1810 and used, to this day, to extract fresh juice from sugar cane. We tasted cacao and experimented with differing combinations of flavor as we added fresh hibiscus, black pepper, cayenne and vanilla extract to try our hand at customizing the experience.

Gerardo Artavia was our witty, informed, philosophical and just plain fun guide. I have traveled to diverse places - South Africa, Kenya, Tasmania, Scotland, Costa Brava and so forth but almost never write reviews. However, this was so outstanding from customized pick up and delivery to the tour itself, that I couldn't pass on sharing my thoughts.

Never thought about this when I planned my trip. Sure am glad I didn't miss it.

Brian is an excellent tour guide! I know a fair amount about cacao, but happily learned even more. The tasting part of it is top notch- the chocolate, coffee, and fresh sugar cane juice, with cacique. And feeding the bulls the sugar cane at the end was awesome. They are incredibly sweet and docile. Highly recommend!

The chocolate tour (with coffee and sugar cane as well) was one of the best experiences we had during our month stay in Manuel Antonio. The education of the cacao farming and plants to the harvest to the table, while tasting along the way, was fun and memorable for the kids and adults. We highly recommend!! (Also ask them about cooking classes and other tours...top notch!)
