About
Near La Fortuna Arenal Volcano National Park you will find an option to learn from this outstanding animal in our sloth sanctuary. The sanctuary purpose is to rescue and rehabilitate sloths that have been brought to our place as they needed immediate attention. The tour we offer will help you understand them better and you will get to know what implies to care for them in order to release them or to keep them alive if the first purpose is not an option for them anymore. We are dedicated to take care of the two species of sloths in Costa Rica. The design of our sloth sanctuary allows guests to see the them in a safe environment that does not interfere with the animals, so that we keep the rehabilitation process as it must be.

No sloths to be seen, but lots of birds!
Mar 2020
Small, nice park easy to walk through. The restaurant was the best part as many birds come right by so great for spotting unusual birds. Food very good and very reasonable compared to others.
*If you really want to see sloths you should go to Cahuita National Park & area they are everywhere! More animals by far.

Very dry tour.. not recommended for small children
Mar 2020 • Family
I came with a group including two young kids.. it was almost two hours of straight talking including a ten minute video.

The kids were restless.. a lot of the information was repeated over and over again.

My attention span was gone in the first twenty minutes and I left the tour early.

If you have two hours to kill and want to see three sloths.. and absorb so much information you will forget the next day..go here!

I would recommend they make it more interactive for the group's.

Hi U4845CMingrids, Thanks for your review. We will share this with the team to keep working in improvement if this is necessary. We understand this kind of activities are not what everyone could expect, but it is very important as a rescue center doing it that way. Education is what matters the most, we do not sell shows (I do not say you are asking for it, but we want to use this to let other know as well). Thanks anyway for your visit and sharing your viewpoint, as I said before. We will share with the team in order to do better.

An educational and entertaining activity
Dec 2019
I have participated in the original volunteer tour in the past and enjoyed it so much that I was anxious to experience the new sloth tour.

We were so impressed with the work that has gone into the facility and the careful planning of the tour itself. Proyecto ASIS offers the highest level of education and shares extremely important messages related to wildlife conservation and ethical treatment of animals.

Our guide, Leidy, was friendly, entertaining, and did an excellent job of explaining the biology, behavior and challenges facing sloths. The tour is engaging and entertaining. I highly recommend it for everyone able to fit it into their itinerary. As is the case for the longer tours, it may not be best for young children with shorter attention spans.

Oh, yes, there is an observation area from which visitors can observe the sloths being rehabilitated. Every effort is made to release resident animals at Proyecto ASIS. This experience is a world apart from many other sloth experiences offered in Costa Rica and many other countries.
