      Cooking and Loving It!
We loved the intimately small cooking class we had today making ceviche and empanadas. The class was fun, and the food turned out delicious. We learned a lot from Chef Scott. After a few minutes with him, it was as if we had been friends for years. We recommend this opportunity to anyone who loves to cook or eat fresh and amazing food. The dessert was over the top. Thank you, Scott! We will be back.

Wonderful instruction by a very talented chef in a beautiful kitchen with amazing views; we loved our 3 hour cooking course. Absolutely delicious results with all farm to table ingredients. Highly recommend this class.

      A great experience
Costa Rica Cooking class. We made mojitos, pork empanadas, ceviche and banana flambé Scott the owner is a delight. He gave us each tips on knife skills and cooking. We had SO much food! (There was a lady in our class that is Muslim and doesn’t eat pork or fish. He accommodated her dietary restrictions.) It was a fun and informative class. Do this! Before we left, we visited his puppy rescue on site. It made us so happy!

      Fun & Tasty!
What a great experience with Chef Scott and team! We were graciously welcomed upon arrival and even had the opportunity to meet some of the four legged friends from the rescue. Chef Scott provided great tutorials on how basic knife skills for the whole family, including our 9 year old daughter. The recipes were all incredibly tasty and we left with plenty of leftovers to get us through our 3 hour drive to Monteverde. Highly recommend this if you're in the La Fortuna area.

      Standout cooking class!
Taking the Ceviche & Empanadas cooking class with Chef Scott and his team was a blast! It was a pleasure to learn in his thoughtfully curated space — everyone in our group took away new lessons learned from this experience, regardless of our varying levels of cooking expertise that we came to the class with. As a bonus, we even spotted a toucan! Scott was super fun, informative, and incredibly patient with our class — he adapted so well to the young children that the other attending family brought along. All of the food and drink we consumed was so delicious! As soon as my husband and I returned home, we made Pico de Gallo & empanadas of our own. I definitely plan to make ceviche next!

Most Fun You'll Have In A Kitchen
This class was a blast! Chef Scott was very likable and knowledgable about cooking in general and Costa Rican food in particular. The empanadas we made were delicious and we had enough to take home for later! The setting was particularly gorgeous with the classes being above the restaurant in the jungle. Chef Scott also runs a dog rescue on site so we had plenty of furry friends to help out in the kitchen! I highly recommend this class if you are interesting in food and want to learn some basics about Central American food.

The class and the food was amazing! Chef Scott was patient and super nice. I would highly recommend adding this to your itinerary! My sister and I took the class to learn how to make empanadas but learned so much more. Chef Scott you Rock!

      Great class, teacher, setting
On Christmas, my husband, 19 y.o. son, and I took this class with Scott and had a wonderful time. We started off with making mojitos, moved to ceviche, guacamole, pico de gallo, and empanadas. We had bananas flambe and ice cream for dessert. Scott's tips and instructions were useful and will last way beyond the class. The class took place in a lovely room with panoramic views that include the volcano. After our meal, we got to play with half a dozen of the dogs that Scott fosters at his dog rescue. Such a lovely experience.

Fun, Authentic, and Delicious Way to do Dinner!
My husband loves cooking, so when we saw the option for having a cooking class with a local Chef as an attraction opportunity, we definitely wanted to try. We were picked up at our hotel by Chef Scott's team and driven to his restaurant for what turned out to be a private cooking class in the rooftop kitchen at Scott's restaurant and home. It was absolutely amazing. We learned how to cook local plantains and beans, which we have made multiple times since our return, pistachio crusted sea bass, and pork, finishing it off with doing our own bananas flambe! We also got to make our own mojitos, which kept coming after we finished the first one. Everything was absolutely delicious and we loved getting to talk with and learn from Chef Scott throughout the evening. Even better, he runs a dog rescue and when we told him we loved dogs and were missing our own, he let a couple of the pups hang out in the kitchen, so it felt like home. The view from the kitchen is stunning, and we saw plenty of toucans while we were cooking. Absolutely loved this experience- if you love to cook and love the feeling of cooking with family and friends, this is a must while you're in Costa Rica!

Highly recommend, reproducible menu to take home, delicious food, good conversation
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Scott and this cooking class were amazing! A standard we will now hold all other cooking classes to. He tailored it to our tastes and dietary restrictions without any issue. The best part is how reproducible our menu was - we’ll be able to take amazing local cuisine back home with us!! And the mojitos were so fresh and fun to make. We even learned basic dicing and cutting techniques we can use in the kitchen daily. We finished in time to have a full afternoon of activities as well. Highly recommend.

Great family activity in La Fortuna
Scott arranged our transportation to and from our hotel to his kitchen, super nice guys with tons of local knowledge. The views from his kitchen are amazing, we got to see the entire volcano which is rare. The class was super fun for our family of nine with ages ranging from 11,13,14,15,17 and four adults. We all learned a bunch of kitchen trips and the local flavors were delish. Great activity for a group or family in La Fortuna.

Educational, delicious, entertaining, and just a lot of fun!
What a treat!! Chef Scott was simply terrific!! He not only taught us how to make empanadas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and Tico Mojitos….he also provided hands on cooking techniques that my children (and myself) can use for years to come. This all done while looking out on one of the most beautiful verandas in La Fortuna. Simone great!!

Add this to your list of things to do in Costa Rica!
Wow! What a great class with Chef Scott and Dillon. We made Ceviche, Empanadas and Flambe of Bananas with chocolate sauce. It was all delicious! It was a wonderful morning. Make sure you arrive hungry because you eat all of this for lunch. We felt very Covid safe because the entire kitchen is open.

I am a private chef traveling solo, and so elected the “shared” class instead of the “private” one, the latter of which indicates a two person minimum. I was later advised via email that the “shared” class also had a two person minimum, and so I would “need to pay for 2 people or bring a friend”. I expressed my surprise and asked about a refund if I was unable to find a second person, and never received a response. Instead, the booking remained “pending” and I was too afraid to cancel, as I was not guaranteed a refund to cancel. Instead, I wasted my day waiting for the class, only to be informed at the time of class that it was not happening because I hadn’t confirmed. I am incredibly upset at the unprofessionalism, the poor communication, false advertising, and ultimately the lost day I could have spent at a different cooking course. I still have not received an apology or clarification for why the “shared” class was not actually an option.

Do you love great food, a local experience, meeting interesting people, and gorgeous panoramic scenery? This is the stop for you. Chef Scott made us comfortable immediately with his casual, yet professional style and hospitality. He introduced us to plantains two ways, secret DR condiments and techniques that make the difference in the dishes, and tropical fusion cuisine rooted in CR favorites and regional fresh products. All in an authentic environment with a dog rescue! We were in heaven. Thank you, Chef, for a memorable and super day!

Our group of four had a wonderful evening of cooking, drinking and conversing during our time at the cooking class. Scott made us feel welcome right from the start and presented the class according to our wishes. I highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to have a fun evening with amazing food. Even if you don't cook this is a must experience evening!

We love taking cooking classes when we travel and experiences like this with Chef Scott are exactly the reason why. Chef Scott is very fun and friendly and his kitchen provides a beautiful view of Arenal Volcano and the surrounding countryside. Chef Scott was great at adapting the menu to our own food restrictions. We made mojitos, patacones (fried, plantain pancakes) with a delicious black bean dip, ceviche, cashew-crusted tilapia with mango salsa, marinated pork with papaya chutney, and bananas foster with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

On the first full day of my 10-day solo journey, I did a private cooking class with Chef Scott. Out of all my experiences during my trip, this one rates as one of the greatest highlights! The entire experience was amazing- you can’t beat the location and the food was phenomenal! Scott cooks with an absolute pure love for cooking, food and teaching. He explained everything thoroughly, taught great skills with how to use a knife and chop food properly, and kept it light and fun the entire time! I could not recommend this experience enough and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to cook and learn alongside Chef Scott. He is the real deal with many years of experience and I love that I was able to cross paths with him on my Costa Rican adventure! Thank you for the most wonderful time Scott, hope to see you again one day!

My wife and I did the cooking class and it has been the highlight of our time in Costa Rica so far. We did the three-course meal and every dish was very practical, delicious, and easily reproducible. Everything was surrounded around authentic CR cuisine. My wife and I were the only two doing the class for our day and we had a great time. Would highly recommend this event for couples or friends traveling together. We would do this again in a heartbeat and I felt that I got my money's worth by the end of the appetizer (and we still had to make the main course and dessert).

Scott actually owns the popular Lava Lounge and he knows what he is doing. We did not get to eat at Lava Lounge but we think that this experience was more memorable and valuable.

We’re so glad we decided to do Chef Scott’s cooking class! You can tell he genuinely loves what he does. We had a private class for the four of us which was awesome. From the third floor kitchen you can watch all the toucans in the trees and get the most amazing view of the volcano. We started by learning how to make mojitos which were delicious then everyone got involved in the cooking of the most amazing meal! We learned some new techniques to boot. Chef Scott gives great instruction and his food is AMAZING. This was the best meal we had and was truly a highlight of our time in La Fortuna. Some of the proceeds from his classes go to help fund his dog rescue so you’re also helping a great cause. If you’re staying at TiFakara Birding Oasis hotel (which I highly recommend) you’re in luck because he’s right next door. We had such a great time and would do it again. It’s worth every penny. Thank you Chef Scott, we had so much fun with you!

Chef Scott was awesome. The food was amazing, and we loved learning how to make it almost as much as we loved cooking it! The drinks definitely helped too! The other thing is that Arenal is just a rainy place. It will rain, just accept it, especially in the afternoon. This was the perfect activity in Arenal because it's fun, you get fed, learn a little culture, and you don't get stuck staring at each other in the room because it's raining too hard to do any of the outdoor activities. I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the area.

A fun afternoon with friends. Scott is a warm, engaging, informative host. So very accommodating to our group and needs. The cooking class accommodates for all interests and abilities. Able to be as hands on or off as you wish. The crew supporting Scott were super friendly. Food was fresh, tropical, full of flavour. Unlimited mojitos and wine for those interested. Scott also runs a dog rescue centre - on site we’re 60 + dogs. A fabulous service for the local area, run by volunteers. Scott’s cookbook is a MUST purchase!

Scott is friendly and the kitchen is located in a beautiful area - surrounded by beautiful nature and the view of the Arenal mountain. Unfortunately, Scott’s assistance, who was responsible for cleaning after us and making sure everything stays organized, had to leave shortly after we arrived. The class will probably be best for people who don’t have much cooking experience or who haven’t had a chance to taste a lot of different cuisines.
