About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 786kelseys0 contributionsAmazing safari float! This was such an amazing experience and our guide and driver were so awesome! We saw so many different animals and enjoyed the nice easy safari float. Would definitely recommend the safari float tour!Written November 13, 2024
- lisanikodem0 contributionsGreat experienceMy husband and I really enjoyed this experience. Our guide Gabriel was extremely knowledgeable about everything we asked about and it was easy to see that he has a passion for sharing the natural world with others. We saw many animals, and even if we hadn't, it was a relaxing and beautiful float trip. After the float, we went to a nearby farm for coffee, juice, and snacks, including cheese made on-site. We would definitely recommend this to others!Written August 10, 2024
- CLTJennifer0 contributionsA beautiful, fun, day on the rapids with an incredible crew!!We loved this class 3-4 rapids rafting trip!! Our guides were friendly and we had a BLAST on this whitewater rafting trip!! We had a driver, two guides in the raft and an additional guide in a kayak to go ahead and get in place to get great photos of us! We were the only raft on our trip and we thoroughly enjoyed the personal attention we got. I think it's a small company with excellent attention to detail and really skilled and knowledgeable guides!! We LOVED our trip!! We were in great hands with Mauricio (in the Kayak), Esteban driving, Steven helping guide the raft and our excellent lead raft guide, Bella!! These guys were fantastic!!! And our trip started off with seeing a Scarlet Macaw on the drive to the river - we stopped and Bella took excellent photos - it was really special and they were so excited to share a stunning, local bird with us!! This was an amazing day out!!Written June 19, 2024
- 395judib0 contributionsWonderful Rafting TripOur Travel Agent, Costa Rica Experts, booked a rafting trip for us with Flow Trips. Flow Trips picked us up promptly at our hotel, Arenal Amor. We went rafting with Bella in our raft and Maurice in a safety kayak. Both of our guides and our driver were awesome. The rapids were Class II and III and just as described. We had a great time on the river. We didn't see any other rafters on the water. We did see a few tubers. Halfway through the trip we stopped to stretch our legs and they cut up a pineapple and some mangoes. After the trip we stopped for a delicious lunch. We were able to change into dry clothes before lunch and they provided towels. I highly recommend this operation. It is first class service.Written May 21, 2024
- SoloTraveler00110 contributionsCalm and InterestingNot what I expected and a pleasure. It was a calm ride down the river, although it was only me, they upheld the excursion. It was not a night rafting experience, but more pre sunset. I got to see many animals otherwise you wouldn't. 3 colonies of monkeys. A toucan (which apparently is difficult). An owl in her nook. Just a lovely serene experience.Written May 16, 2024
- 97anic0 contributionsFlows trips. Small and value for moneyEasy to deal with. Friendly helpful staff and guide. Professional unit. Good transport and raft. Small group just 3 perfect. Only us on river and one other tour group with 2 so was nice not to be in crowds. Pickup on time. No time wasted. Reasonable prices not inflated like some. Guide had good knowledge. Saw 3 troupes of howling monkeys, sloth, bats, fish, lizards, iguanas, toucan, lots of bird varieties. Heron wild turkeys vultures, national bird of Costa rica so many I can't remember their names. River was tranquil and cal.. shade and full sun so bring hat and sunscreen. They supplied water. Never felt rushed. Just drifted and took time when observing wildlife. Ended with drinks and cheese plantains and banana bread. Highly recommendWritten May 6, 2024
- denver5130 contributionsHiking with Vela in the rain and cloud forestsWe used Flow Trips for our transportation and hiking near the Arenal volcano and in the cloud forest. Vela was a wonderful guide—caring and knowledgeable about the area of La Fortuna and Monteverde. He got as excited as we did about the creatures and birds we saw! Vela went above and beyond to make our second honeymoon memorable. An excellent trip! Thanks!!Written February 20, 2024
- I5279AWsoniam0 contributionsGreat time!I had so much fun on the rafting tour. I came with my sister to celebrate her birthday. Mauricio was awesome and super knowledgeable! Gustavo was also really nice and took great pics of us. I highly recommend this tour 10/10!Written February 11, 2024

- Vacation173856998410 contributionsSunset/Twilight Flor & Fauna on a jungle riverCool experience to be on the river at sunset and as the sun went down. Lots of animals become active at this time and the mosquitoes weren’t as active in this area (much more at rio Celeste). Peaceful, beautiful, we felt very safe (we wondered about that haha). Our guide, Kato, was very knowledgeable and pointed out and explained everything we were experiencing, from the nature to the animals. We spotted many different species of monkeys, the “Jesus Christ” iguana, bats that flew over the water, even a small caiman. The plants and vines draped over the water and created beautifully green tunnels as we slowly drifted down the calm water. It was very relaxing and we highly recommendWritten September 19, 2023
- marvi620 contributionsRelaxing boat ride - great for bird watchers! My (adult) daughter and I had a very pleasant twilight boat ride on the river. This was our 3rd guided activity out of La Fortuna this week with Flow Trips, all arranged by our U.S. travel agency. For the Twilight river safari, we sat in the same type of large, sturdy, inflatable raft that we went on the day before for whitewater rafting. The safari ride is a much more relaxed experience. Our guide, Cato, paddled the boat while pointing out various birds, a white faced capuchin monkey, a tyrag(?) animal, and a family of howler monkeys. We ended up in a heavy rainstorm for half of our ride, but we still enjoyed listening to the birds and howling monkeys. We rated this a 4 out of 5 because we liked our more active kayaking and whitewater rafting tours with Flow more - personal preference. Our Flow Tours driver and tour guide were extremely organized, gave us (required) life vests, helped us get in and out of the boat as needed, and served us locally made tamales wrapped in banana leaves and cold drinks at the end of our tour.Written August 27, 2023
- marvi620 contributionsFabulous first time whitewater rafting trip!My adult daughter and I had a fabulous half day whitewater rafting trip with our Flow tour guides Mauricio and Vela. We had never gone whitewater rafting before. We received detailed instructions, including safety precautions; were given helmets and life jackets; and did some practice with the two other tourists in our raft before we set out. Vela was our guide in the raft, with Mauricio following along in his kayak. We had a fun break in the middle for a bit of swimming and a snack - freshly cut, locally grown pineapple and watermelon. Bring a water bottle and wear water shoes - you need them for getting in and out of the boat at the beginning and end of the trip and during the break in the middle. Bring a strap to hold your sunglasses if you plan to wear them - you will get splashed! Unless your camera or phone is in a waterproof bag, don’t bring it. The driver stayed with the van during our excursion (which we especially appreciated since we were in transit and had all our luggage with us). Bring dry clothes to change into - There are changing rooms when you get out. We were then taken to a restaurant 5 minutes away where we had an excellent lunch of rice, beans, plantains and a choice of fish, chicken, meat or vegetarian. This was an awesome experience. Highly recommended!!Written August 26, 2023
- P3314KJchrisj0 contributionsHighly tecommendedExcellent !! My family of four (two teens) and another family fourn(on another raft) did tour together down river. This trip was really excellent. My husband and I chose to paddle solo kayaks, and our guide Abel was in a third kayak. They were inflatable kayaks, very stable and maneuverable. Abel helped us to see lots of interesting birds and animals, including howler monkeys, two different kinds of iguanas, bats, anhingas, a green kingfisher, a gray hawk, a boat billed heron, and more. He was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, patient and helpful. I do think it was helpful that my husband and I are experienced paddlers. We would not have seen so much if we hadn't been able to ferry back and forth across the river to get in a good position to see things.
The food served at the end was also really excellent. All in all, this was one of the best things we've done in Costa Rica.

We had a wonderful kayak trip down the Penas Blancas River with our tour guide Mey. Even though I have kayaked before I had the option to ride with our tour guide. He was great finding different birds for us and we even saw a Tayra. Mey told us that was rare. He took the time to really look for different animals. After, we stopped at a local place for juice and plantains. These were wonderful.

We had a really nice kayaking experience at Lake Arenal. Guide was great. We have a 4 y.o and 9 y.o and it felt safe. The lake was calm despite some rain during the day.

This was an amazing kayak tour with this company. Our tour guide and driver was the absolute best. Much love from the Trinidad and Tobago family. He was very knowledgeable and we got to learn a bit of the country's history. Our time on the lake was enjoyable. Will definitely recommend when visiting. Thanks much

We have had the best time in Costa Rica, Fortuna is exceptionally beautiful. The beautiful scenery is breathtaking, the Volcanos, wild life, nature, and greenery is beyond words. We had our favorite tour by Joseph, we kayaked all over the Arenal lake. He was extremely knowledgeable about the country and all the efforts towards sustainability. The information that he shared with us about our planet, animals, and the functions that we each play will forever have an impact in our lives for years to come. He took his time and allowed us to take breaks to rest. He was very sweet to check in. At the end he had snacks and drinks to help us replenish. I highly recommend that you request him, he’s an awesome instructor, you’ll learn a lot. Thank you Joseph for your time and dedication to the field of knowledge 🙌🏽 #PURAVIDA

We signed up for morning kayaking on the Penas Blanco River and biking around Lake Arenal in the afternoon. Joseph, Max and their driver picked us up at the hotel. They were warm and friendly. Stopped several times on the way to their facility to point out wildlife. Very knowledgeable about the area, wildlife and Costa Rica. Their English was excellent too. The kayak trip was very pleasant. They gave us thorough instructions and helped out with paddling. We felt very safe. Saw birds and monkeys along the river. Ended at a cafe/working farm for a typical Costa Rican snack, which was very tasty.
We had the same crew for afternoon biking. It was like biking with friends. The equipment was good, although my husband could have used a larger bike. Again we felt very safe even though we were riding on roads with no shoulder. Stopped for a snack along the way. Learned more about the area and had a great time!
Thanks Joseph and Max for a great day!
