    Expectations Exceeded
This was a fantastic experience for anyone who wants to learn a lot and have a rad time for 2 hours. The farm is gorgeous, and the staff are excellent. Our guide, Alberto, was exceptionally knowledgeable, helpful, and funny. It felt like learning with an old friend. If I were staffing a tour, I would hire him in an instant. The chocolate is delicious, but make sure you temper expectations for young children as it is not Willy Wonka; much of the chocolate has a high percentage of cacao, which made some of the younger guests grimace. The coffee was phenomenal. In addition to learning about the process, we got to experience a small batch roasting that we drank minutes later. I will never approach coffee the same again! If you’re on the fence, do it!

Very good experience, easy and straightforward
We took a 2,5 hour tour & tasting and got to learn A LOT about the production of coffee, cacao and sugarcane, especially enjoying the chocolate and coffee parts. 🤩 It came as a surprise that Costa Rica only produces around 1% of the world’s coffee, as it’s so well known one would imagine it was more. But no, they state it’s the quality over quantity: and that would also be a great description for our tour. So yeah — I did buy couple of coffee bean bags on our way out. What can you do, really? Hahah. ☕️ I booked through WhatsApp on the day before and it was super easy and straightforward. Special thanks for our tour guide Rosbi for being awesome. 🙏🏻

Calling all chocolate and coffee lovers 😍
Wow! What a brilliant way to spend the afternoon. We were picked up from our hotel and driven to the chocolate and coffee plantation. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Our group included couples, families with children and people travelling on their own. Everyone was warmly welcomed. The facilities were very clean and the tour was really interesting. Alberto was our host and he was clearly very knowledgable and passionate about his job which made the tour even more enjoyable. We not only learned about all the processes of making both coffee and chocolate but got to sample a wide range of chocolates and coffee. I don’t think coffee will taste the same again. Luckily we bought some in the shop to take home before we were driven back to our hotel as part of the service. A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting afternoon. Many thanks Alberto and the whole team! I am full up but very happy! 👍 Best wishes from the English couple who know know how to make proper coffee!

    Choctastic Coffee Tour!
A wonderfully informative tour and tasting experience by the team at North Fields. Every process of making chocolate and coffee delivered by clearly experts in their field who are also passionate, informative and personable. A ‘must do’ activity whilst staying in the Arenal area. Alberto was a true delight to get to know. A great trip with a very reasonably priced shop to visit after. The transfer to and from our hotel was a great added bonus.

    A Unique Experience
Being able to learn how both chocolate and coffee are grown and produced in Costa Rica was a great way to spend time in a different way. Our guide, Cesar, explained everything so clearly as we walked through the setting, and it was so interesting for my teenage grandson, too. We got a chance to taste different varieties of chocolate and coffee in a unique outdoor setting. My grandson had a chance to extract liquid from sugar cane, too. The tour gave us greater appreciation for these products we enjoy in our daily lives and how hard the Costa Ricans work to be able to export them. It was a wonderful tour!

Delicious blend of chocolate, coffee, and sugarcane! Excellent tour guides.
Wonderful tour! We learned tons, about chocolate and coffee production, from the soil, plants, beans, harvesting, processing, then samplings of their finished products, and we learned about and sampled sugar cane. Our guide, Cesar, was knowledgeable about everything, including the various tropical fruits growing on the property, birds, and wildlife. The staff supporting the tours, by roasting coffee beans, making candied cacao, and snacks, cleaning up after up, and running the gift shop were also important to making our experience perfect. Everyone was friendly and generous. Note, it may rain, but they gave each of us an umbrella before we started our tour!

    Informative trip
Worthwhile trip. Cesar showed his passion for coffee (and chocolate) despite it being a really hot afternoon- even for Costa Ricans! Very informative trip - we learned a lot.

Amazing tour in North Fields Cafe
The tour was amazing! Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide (David) did a superb job explaining how cacao- and coffee products are made in North Fields cafe. We got to taste cacao beans, melted chocolate and freshly roasted coffee and everything was delicious. We had a great time and the tour exceeded our expectations.

My family and I were so impressed with this tour ! David the tour guide was very engaging and our whole group had a blast! We learned so much and the experience was definitely top of the list for our teens! It’s very hard to find something that your teens will enjoy and I have to say this one was a hit! The tasting of the coffee and chocolate with all the sweet and spicy toppings was so intriguing and delicious! Jorge picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back off and the icing on the cake was when I purchased a handmade coffee pot and left it at our hotel, Jorge went back to the hotel ( 20 minutes one way ) picked up the coffee pot and sent it to me back in the states!
Alan kept in contact with me the whole time my coffee pot was being shipped and made sure it arrived to me without a scratch.
The plantation at North Fields Coffee was such a treasure to find. It’s so far from a mass tourist trap. North Fields was a place of passion, family, love and care and their coffee and chocolate was intoxicating! We will definitely be talking about them for years and hope to visit again! Thank you North Fields family!!

This was our second tour with North Fields, as we brought family with us to Costa Rica for our second visit. We highly recommend this tour. The guides are knowledgeable and easy to talk to, the family business is great, and the tour itself is very informative. We always buy products where we are there because their products are high quality.

This was a lovely well-spent 2 hours of my vacation. The information was very interesting, and the guide did a good job explaining and showing us everything from the plants to getting it on the table. There were so many wonderful tastes. I especially liked the chocolate tea. The chocolate was amazing! Thank you.

A great tour with an enthusiastic guide, Cesar, who was very passionate and knowledgeable along with his younger sidekick Matteus who was keen to be involved and has great future potential. Lots of information and plenty to see and taste. Cesar spoke excellent English and delivered the tour with humour and warmth, his English was excellent and I hope he pursues his future dreams of becoming and English teacher - he will make a great one. A traditional tour with a family orientated business. Both my daughter and myself had a great afternoon here. Thank you.

The remodel that was done here was very nice. The food was good (a little pricey) and our server was very sweet and very good. A good place if you're a drinker. The only problem was that we had a Local Flavor coupon that they would not honor as we were supposed to order entrees. The coupon does not specifically say that. It says good for dinner only and we were there at dinner but ordered sandwiches. There had only been 6 or 7 items for entrees (only 1 of which I would have ordered) and they were QUITE expensive. We were annoyed that the manager didn't have the courtesy to explain why we couldn't use the coupon but had the server do it. We will NOT be back.
There was a happy ending though...Local Flavor refunded the money for the coupon!

First I have to thank Daniel, he was so informative while explaining the entirety of the cocoa making process and life cycle of coffee beans. We got to taste the pulp of cocoa beans, taste the bean fresh from the pulp, then see the bean heated to create a delicious sugar glaze (you can buy the at the gift shop too), then taste 100% chocolate when its grounded from the beans, and experience the difference after adding milk. Later we got try watch and learn about the coffee bean roasting process and why we taste different kinds of notes depending on roasting and freshness from the grind. There's is also sugar cane (we got to juice and drink) and other goods North Fields farms and it was so much fun being able to see it all. Highly recommend this experience, it was a lot of fun and a memory that I know I'm excited to have!

This was a fun, informative, and interactive tour. We started at the cafe with a barista-style caffecito. Our guide, Cesar, was well-versed in different styles of coffee preparation and helped us understand how to detect the various tastes and scents in our coffee. After that, we made our way to the plantation where we learned about cacao growth and production. Cesar took us through step by step and eventually toward what we recognized as chocolate. We got to sample different versions and blend our own to our liking. We ended with a cup of a fresh dark roast (and Grandma’s pancake) and a deeper appreciation for the cultivation of coffee and chocolate. As a bonus, we happened upon a copo vendor (Copos Peña) just up the road and bought a couple for the drive back to the hotel.

Chocolate tour was a priority for our kids 12&15. Our guide was not a family member but had for the family for years and was very knowledgeable about coffee and chocolate growing and production. The included several tasting stations, brought us through the growth and processing of chocolate, Coffee, and sugarcane and included tasting at many stages. I loved the discussion of the challenges of the growth and production gave us all a new appreciation for our favorites and some insights into quality. Kids loved this tour.
