We took the extreme day hike from la fortna and it was an amazing experience with knowledge helpful guides. It is a very difficult hike so beware.

Trip was great, driver was very accommodating by stopping at sights to take pictures and explain where we are and whats in area. Rapids were a blast, our guide there was great with explaining all the safety measures in place and what to do when he calls out commands to us. Very intense and exciting experience, lots of laughs and smiles. They also took photos on kayaks of us and they came out amazing. Not included in trip price but as an add on for $10/person for 100+ pictures it was completely worth it. Great food included as well, highly recommend 👍🏼

We had never been paddle boarding before. Otto the guide was great at teaching us. He was very knowledgeable about the area and at the end, taught us how to Merengue!

Fantastic rafting tour!! They were so attentive to everyone, from scared adults to excited teens to smaller kids. Felt completely safe the entire time and had a blast. Will cherish these memories forever. We even saw sloths on our tour. Lunch was great too.

My wife and I found the cooking class to be pretty elementary, particularly for the cost, but our kids found it to be one of the highlights of the trip. The fact that it got the five of us around the same table doing (relatively) the same thing and chatting all the way was worth it in and of itself. The end result was tasty too!

The best thing about this tour was our guide, JP, who was interesting and engaging. The tour itself, while a nice boat ride, just didn’t feel like more than that. I’m not quite sure what I expected, but the tour itself was kind of, well, boring. Had it not been for JP, with whom I engaged on a variety of topics of Costa Rican life and government, I think it would have been a bust. Great if you’re looking for a boat ride, but it wasn’t much more than that — not much flora and fauna (though that also could have been the weather).

Our tour with Kristel was spectacular She was very friendly and extremely informative. She hand a keen eye and spotted animals we would never seen on our own. Additionally she shared facts specific to the rainforest and Costa Rica. Her English was exceptional. We would highly recommend using a tour guide on your excursions.

We were a 3-generation family (kids 7 ad 10, grandparents over 70), and had a fantastic day with Samantha and Joseth as our guides for the day. These 3 activities complement each other nicely, and was the right amount of physical activity for our mixed group. Having the guides to spot wildlife (I don't know how they are so good!), explain about the ecosytems, and make the the timing all ran smoothly made it so we could just enjoy ourselves and not worry. A delicious morning fruit snack and lunch at Desafio were added bonuses. The only downside was I would have liked to spend more time at each place, but this was the best way to fit in a lot of different things.

Went with 10 year old grandkids! It was the most exciting and adventurous thing we did on our entire trip. The crew was great at explaining how to do everything. The walk from falls to falls and back up to the top was really cool too. The late lunch was terrific after our adventure

This trip was truly amazing. Amazing view. Otto was amazing, truly made the experience 10/10. Very knowledgeable on kayaking and the volcanos. Thank you Otto for a wonderful trip!

Such an unforgettable experience. When we arrived to the camp first we were sorted with equipment and then we were given a safety talk and a demo on how to rappel properly. There were 4 waterfalls to rappel, 2 very short ones and 2 longer ones. For the longer ones, you rappel only a short distance and then you Zipline backwards for the rest of it. This was fun but it was a shame not to have more time rappelling overall as we never really got a chance to have a proper go at it - you would just get the hang of it and then the distance would be over. In between the rappelling sections there was a small 2m waterfall jump and another fun waterfall activity. It was really cool to just walk through the canyons too! The rocks can be quite slippy so shoes with good grips are definitely needed. There is a 20min hike back to camp at the end up some pretty steep steps, we were grateful to have the wet clothes to keep us cool! At camp there are towels, showers and changing rooms. Lunch was delicious. There was a buffet style set up with a salad bar and also typical Costa Rican hot food with meat, rice, veg & beans. Our guides for the day really made the day for us - Onel, Ronnie, Brian, David & Dario. Special mention to Onel who was really great at calming my nervous friend, and to David who is the happiest person I think I have ever met! All the guides did such a great job at making the day a success. They were all having fun, making sure we were enjoying the activity but also checking in on us to make sure we were ok.

If you want to learn a little about the Costa Rican culture and learn to cook some great food this is a wonderful class. Katherine did a great job helping us cook and teaching us about traditional food in Costa Rica. Even our teen boys enjoyed the class. The food was really good too!

My wife and I visited Costa Rica 15 years ago and did multiple activities with Desafio. We didn’t look anywhere else when we decided to take our kids back all these years later. We did the Mambo Combo. We have traveled a lot, and our kids have gotten to do some pretty fun things. But, we all 4 think the canyoneering is the funnest tour/activity we have ever done. We had an absolute blast!!! My two sons were smiling from ear to ear the entire time. Our guide was Ronny. Phenomenal. We did close to 10 tours in Costa Rica. He was the best guide we had the entire time. We got pretty lucky, as we were the only 4 people on the tour that morning. But he and all the other guides provided us with so much more than just a tour. It was an absolute adventure. My parents are in their mid 60’s, and we’re going to try to tell them into going and doing this tour next winter! Rafting the balsa river was also super fun. We’ve rafted many rivers, and the Balsa isn’t the most exhilarating. But it was constant rapids and super fun. Jorge was our guide, and he was awesome. He kept us entertained the whole time! We saw a sloth along the river too. We thought the value was incredible for the combo tour compared to many other activities we did while we were gone. People that haven’t visited Costa Rica just can’t imagine how great the people are. Desafio is the epitome of that. Great people!

Avoid Oscar as your whitewater rafting guide. He is freelance and pursue inappropriately female solo tourists. He usually is under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The owner is aware and prioritizes profit. I spoke to Brian the supervisor, he covers them saying that 90% of guides smoke pot. This is unacceptable and they must have stricter guide policies!

So beautiful! We didn't hire a tour guide and were glad we didn't. It definitely wasn't necessary here. Some of our group saw howler monkeys.
