This river protects a good portion of forest on its banks, connected through its tributaries with dozens of small patches of forest, creating a highway for several species of animals. They use the ground, water, and branches to move daily through the river in search of food and other needs. It is easy to observe monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, caiman, and numerous species of birds, as well as dense vegetation of coastal trees that support the soil and prevent erosion and floods. A quiet tour to enjoy the peace and sounds of the forest. We will use our senses of sight, hearing, and smell to locate animals. The boat captain is also an experienced naturalist guide with great knowledge to interpret the ecosystem and provide interesting information about it. At the end, we will share an unforgettable experience, visiting a Costa Rican family on their farm, and enjoying homemade snacks.

Relaxing and great animal/cooking experience
Dec 2020
What a great way to see animals! We were guided by Diego and driven by Jose, both of whom were great at their jobs. We really enjoyed how peaceful and quiet it was on the raft that was being expertly rowed by Diego. He somehow got us in to each nook and cranny to see the animals up close. We saw a ton of HUGE iguanas lounging, caimans, jesus christ lizards, sleeping bats, and tons of birds. At the end you go to Wendy's home and help her make a few tortillas which is supposed to be a snack but her great plaintain chips, bean dip, and fresh cheese really fill you up. It made me actually want to do a cooking class later but tough to find one during covid times. Every place we stopped had full bathroom facilities, soap, and hand sanitizer. Diego even took our temps before letting us on the shuttle and gave us hand sanitizer. We wore masks and washed hands thoroughly while making the tortillas and there was plenty of outdoor space while eating. On the raft you can take off your mask as there was plenty of room and we were outside.

Great peaceful introduction to Costa Rican wildlife
Feb 2020
The good: Great guides, close up to nature, lovely family with snack at end. Saw bats, many birds (including some rare ones), monkeys basilisk, iguanas, sloth(at a distance), peaceful float down river
The bad: long ways to get there, sloths way up in trees so you really couldnt see much, we went at mid-day when animals are least active (we would have booked differently had we known)

Wonderful experience, highly recommend
Jan 2020 • Couples
Two of us were joined by two others on this gentle float trip. Driver Jose was careful and van was very comfortable. Guide Andy was also excellent and thoughtful. He had a great eye for seeing wildlife (at least 4 sloths, a caiman, herons, egrets, howler monkeys) and maneuvering the raft so we could see them clearly. He spoke English (and monkey howl!) very well and was good at describing animal and plant habits clearly for us. The visit to a local family’s home for lunch (prepared as we watched) was a real treat— hostess was warm and welcoming and visit felt very genuine, not touristy. Overall, a unique and very rewarding trip.

Awesome experience
My husband and myself had a wonderful trip with our guide Estefan, driver José and Lois who was in training and did great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spotted a great number of creatures ranging from a variety of birds, snakes, iguana, monkeys, bats etc. I highly recommend this trip and it was in a float down the river very peaceful and they were very good rafters. We had a great light lunch at Wendy’s place at the end. They even went the extra mile to pick up my husband’s lost cap. Great team and great company with very professional service.

Safari float tour- guide was a little sketch
The activity itself was fine- fun and a lot to see. I highly recommend the float if you want something less intense than river rafting but still want to get in the water and see some wildlife. I didn’t have much of a choice when it came to this company it came as a package with my hotel. I wasn’t too thrilled with my tour guide. He wasn’t as friendly and little pushy when speaking to us and getting to and from. He was knowledgeable, and we did see a lot, so I gave the experience three stars. Drawback about the guide again though was he made me fill out a survey at the end in front of him, which was a little strange. The company also tried to upcharge us $5 on the way back from town for a taxi. I didn’t get the greatest vibes from the whole operation, and I probably wouldn’t recommend when my other experiences were so much better.

70 year olds’ Bucket List Trip
Miss Jessie arranged the easy Safari Float on the Peña Blancas River for 20 of my high school friends on our 53rd reunion. Hydel our guide was great and Eric our raft captain pointed out bats, monkeys, owls, and sloths that were well camouflaged in the trees. A refreshing snack at a nearby farm after our 2 hour float was perfect.
Highly recommended for those wanting the experience without the white water.

Amazing Costa Rica experience
You want a true Costa Rican experience go on the pure nature river float. We had a spectacular time. Diego and Mario were amazing they were fun, entertaining and very knowledgeable. Diego was so knowledgeable his degree in ecotourism was apparent, it was great! We saw lots of amazing wildlife. The snack at Wendy’s home was excellent some of the best food we had. All in all a wonderful experience I would do it again in a heartbeat. Totally with the price. Don’t hesitate book it!

Incredible nature trip
My wife and I did this trip yesterday, floating soundlessly down a river off the general tourist path up towards Nicaragua. The trip there is only about an hour, but on the way we saw howler monkey families including some great footage of an infant high in the trees with parents. The guide, Bernard, knows how to hold your iPhone up against a telescope (when not in the raft) and you come away with video and still footage that you wouldn’t believe. I’ll always remember this trip, which includes a nice snack prepared in a local home on the river. Here’s a couple of nice photos that Bernard shot with my iPhone.
