Our guide Justin has ruined me. But only in the best way. He gave us such an amazing education in coffee and chocolate that I can no longer settle for the swill to which I have become accustomed.
From the moment we arrived to the last tasting of coffee each step led us to appreciate and expand our tastes. Justin was fun and knowledgable. Our time went by so quickly while he took us through the process of how each are grown, developed, and processed. Because of what he taught us, my hatred of mosquitoes is now down to only 98%.
If you are the least bit interested in agriculture, coffee, or chocolate do not miss this tour. It's easy to access from the town of Fortuna and you take away some delicious memories.

Jorge was our guide for the chocolate and coffee tour, and he was simply outstanding!!! We booked this on a whim, and it was so much more impressive than we ever could’ve expected. Anybody who has an interest in horticulture, science, or simply chocolate/coffee will love this. The amount of detail, information, and explanation we received around the processes for making chocolate and coffee was amazing. You really start from the plant and go through the whole process of how we get to the end results. They were also some very cool options to taste smell see things along the way. A great and very reasonably priced gift shop at the end was also awesome as we brought home chocolate, wine, tea, and souvenirs.

Very interesting, informative and fun tour. More than just coffee and chocolate. They have a great ethos of growing organically and using polyculture system with companion plants and using the other plants as much to build organic matter. Coffee tasting was good, also got to make our own chocolate!!

When we first drove up and saw it was $40 a person for a short tour, we were like maybe we'll skip it. Thankfully, we didn't. On the tour, we learned a lot about the harvesting and making of both chocolate and coffee. We tasted the fruit of the cocoa plant. Kinda tastes like lychee; had no idea prior. Got to make our own chocolate bars from raw chocolate power. Word of advice, use much less salt than you think you will need and taste frequently. Go early so you can appreciate the coffee samples you will get to taste.

The tour was very well organized and it’s easy access for wheel chair & disabled. The information and demonstrations were well explained and easy to follow orally and visually. You get to make your own chocolate bar how cool is that! It totally changes the way I will buy, prepare and drink my coffee from now on. I will always appreciate my chocolate when eating it much more, lol.
I find most Costa Rican tours are way over priced compared to many countries, but this tour was the closest I found worth the price, still high, but very good.

Four of us took this tour, including elderly parents with limited walking and standing ability. This was a very good tour for them with lots of opportunities to sit. We learned so much about the coffee and chocolate process. Yen was very knowledgeable and we all enjoyed the full two hour tour. Would highly recommend it. Note: put on bug spray.

My family of 4 - kids age 7 and 8 - did the coffee/chocolate tour with Don Juan. We loved the entire experience. It was interesting, educational, and moved at the perfect pace to keep the kids entertained. A highlight for the kids was grinding coffee, trying the cacao bean, and making their own chocolate bars. I was fearful that the kids would be bored. We've been home for almost 2 weeks and they are still talking about the coffee and chocolate. Our guide was excellent - I highly recommend this tour.

Out of all the coffee and chocolate tours available in La Fortuna I picked this one, Don Juan Tours, and I’m glad I did because I wasn’t disappointed in the least. Our guide was Axle and he was very knowledgeable in chocolate and coffee growing and making. I learned more about coffee and chocolate in 2 hours then I knew my whole life. When you learn how mosquitoes are actually a big part in cacao you will be amazed. I drank more coffee the following 2 days then I had in a week back home. I read that someone said they don’t grow there own cacao and coffee beans here but they definitely do. I think that person took a tour here when they first opened up and hadn’t established a farm yet. You will see your guide actually pick cacao and coffee beans right from the plants.

I’ve been on quite a few tours all over the United States, and this tour is definitely the best I’ve experienced. I was a little confused at first, somehow not understanding that there were two Dom Juan tours, one in Fortuna, one in Monteverde. The Monteverde farm is primarily a coffee farm. The La Fortuna farm is officially a cocoa farm, but they have many, many other trees as well: coffee, cinnamon, black pepper, banana, etc. Alex, our tour guide, was fantastic, answering our questions about the whole farm. My husband and I loved the hands-on learning about the chocolate and coffee processes. We were also surprised to see a few animals :) I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but we both felt it was worth every penny.

A very informative and fun tour. Our guide explained very clearly the process of chocolate, sugar cane and coffee production. He made the whole tour hands-on and entertaining. There was also tasting as we were shown each process and an opportunity to buy at the end.
