Having the opportunity to visit 3 amazing locations in a single day was such a great experience and our tour tour guide Roy was so kind, patient, very knowledgeable and accommodating.

We were fortunate enough to have an encounter with a howler monkey at the Mistico Hanging Bridges where he actually came down onto one of the bridges and even tried to swipe some phones from some of us in the group! Roy provided lots of information about the forest, the animals and insects we saw and took photos for us.

We then traveled to La Fortuna waterfall where the pictures don’t do it any justice. Getting to swim in the water was really nice. Again, Roy shared tons of information about the waterfall, took pictures for us and watched our stuff while we swam.

We went for a delicious lunch nearby and then went to another area really close by to begin our hike at the volcano. It was not a difficult hike in my opinion, even after a long day. The views were amazing and Roy once again shared lots of information about the volcano and animals and took pictures for us.

Would highly recommend this experience. Small families could probably do this as well. There was another group near us that had two young children and they seemed to have a good time. Dress for the weather, I’d recommend bringing water shoes if you plan to swim but not 100% necessary, a change of dry clothes (I brought just shorts and didn’t have to change). Our guide had a cooler with water bottles but can’t hurt to bring extra.

An absolute must if you’re in Costa Rica. From the moment we booked the trip, the team had excellent communication and were so organised, ensuring we had everything we needed and that we knew we to meet. Because our hotel was in Tamarindo, we made our own way to La Fortuna. The team were great in helping us organise where to leave the car and where to meet them.
Our guide was Levi - he was so informative and made the experience something we will never forget. The tour was so much fun, we learnt lots about the plants, the animals and the people of Costa Rica. We managed to fit three main attractions of La Fortuna in approximately 9 hours, but we were never rushed, Levi always made sure we spent enough time at each place and that we had taken our photos - he even took some fantastic photos for us!
Levi - thank you so much for the tour, we will never forget it, your passion for nature and your country was just wonderful. We hope we will be back in Costa Rica very soon!

No, you will not hang on the edge of the caldera clutching the Ring but you will see three major attractions in the La Fortuna area with a very capable guide, a comfortable ride and fueled by a delicious lunch.

Roy was our guide and he was terrific! From spotting the tiniest hummingbird, to explaining how the 1968 eruption of the Arenal volcano formed the larger crater and taking our group photos everywhere, we couldn’t have asked for someone more capable. Our kids, both teens, loved taking pictures of the wildlife through his scope.

On a practical note. The morning tour of the hanging bridges is on a paved trail and relatively easy. The waterfall portion has all the amenities needed to change into bathing suits and dry off upon return. Going up and down does take some effort. The water is very refreshing however bear in mind the wet rocks on the edge are quite slippery. The last activity is a 2 hour hike that is on the most uneven terrain with a very rocky trail. Hiking shoes would be a good idea for this one, especially if is raining.

Overall it was a very satisfying experience for our group (two adults, two teens) that left us tired but thrilled to have seen so much in one day.

My wife and I really enjoyed the tour/s. Ericka was an amazing tour guide that was able to give us so much information on the animals and plants and Costa Rica. She really made the experience. I highly recommend taking this tour as you will cover three of the biggest attractions in the area and will get a true experience with a guide like Ericka. She found things we never would have seen without her expertise. I found a waterproof backpack on Amazon that came with a waterproof phone holder. It was the perfect thing for visiting the rainforest. I recommend the 30 liter one. When it was raining and i couldn't use my nice camera I was able to take pictures with my phone with the waterproof phone case.

This was the best thing we did in CR! Our guide was AWESOME, very knowledgeable, pointing out flora & fauna all along the way. She also kindly took photos of our group or took pics & vids through her telescope all while sharing her knowledge of Costa Rica and being very engaging along the way.

Hanging Bridges: this was amazing and where we saw the most animals. She would quickly get the telescope out and show us creatures far up in the trees, burrowed into holes, or swinging above us!

Arenal: We hiked and learned about the history of the eruption and how it shaped the future of tourism in Costa Rica. The hike was a little over 2 miles, mainly uphill, and hot, but we stopped for breaks as needed.

Fortuna Waterfall: Entering the waterfall area is not easy as you have to climb over slick rocks and it's very easy to slip. But getting into the cold water with the beautiful waterfall behind you is an incredible experience. Off to the left is a calm area with water simply flowing around rocks. It's very shallow and perfect for young kids or those who may have trouble navigating the slick rocks. Be warned - you will have 500 steps on the way back up! Leave plenty of time to get back up.

TIPS:
*bring water shoes as it will make walking around the rocks and in the waterfall a lot easier
*bathroom stalls are available on site so no need to wear your swim clothes all day under your hiking clothes
*bring a cooling towel as it can get very hot
*restrooms are available at all 3 stops

We went on this tour on January 25th 2020. We were the lucky group to have Roy as our guide. The weather was really not as great and he had to deal with unhappy guests early in the morning. It didn’t take too long for him to make us all smiling again. As soon as we started the hanging bridge activity he spotted a species of monkeys in the trees! Woah! We were so impressed to see them in their own habitats that we forgot about the bad weather, the clouds, the rain and the fog! The hanging bridge was great! We were lucky to see other species of monkeys, birds and snakes. At each look out point Roy asked is if we wanted to take a picture or a video. He really cares about making sure we don’t miss a thing!

The waterfall Arenal are great! The water is cold but the experience of swimming beside the waterfalls is amazing! The story behind the creation is also really interesting! Roy took the time to explained a lot of Arenal and La Fortuna history.

Yummy lunch! Rice and beans! Everyone was chatting about their lives and work and it was a great group.

Then the Arenal Volcano! Ugh! So much clouds that day, we couldn’t see much of the volcano! Roy made this experience a more historical moment and really took all the time needed so we understand what happened in 1968, before and after the eruption. He explained why they named the city La Fortuna and I think everyone that takes this tour should really understand the massive impact the eruption of the Arenal Volcano had on the towns located at the base of the volcano.

Thank you so much for this unforgettable momeries you helped us created!

Cheers!

It was a long day, but a great day! Erica was our tour guide and she was knowledge, kind, informative, and kept our group moving throughout the day. We started out being promptly picked up at our hotel via a shuttle bus, then took a hike that involved the hanging bridges, got a great lunch at a local Soda, went to the waterfalls where we were able to swim, and then hiked around Arenal Volcano. If you have only a few days in the La Fortuna area and want to hit all the hot spots in one day, I would highly recommend. Additionally, I needed to make a last minute change to the day of our hike and the company was very accommodating.

This tour was a fantastic way to collectively do all the walking tours worth doing in the Arenal/Fortuna area.

1) Hanging Bridges- great experience, saw so much wildlife including plants, birds, spider monkeys, bats, tarantulas, snakes (don't worry, we were always safe with our wonderful guide Erica (?spelling). The bridges themselves are breathtaking. Truly would not have noticed nearly as much wildlife without Erica pointing them out. She was incredibly knowledgeable and an excellent educator!

2) The Waterfall- amazing! The 500 steps are easy on the descent but will certainly give you a workout on the way back up! The waterfall is worth it, amazing to swim so close but beware the rocks can be slippery (watershoes recommended). There's also another area with calmer shallow waters for easier swimming. So many fish!

3) Arenal Volcano- wonderful views, even though you are not permitted to climb very high up the volcano. Was enjoyable learning about the history of the Volcano and the momentous 1968 eruption.

En route to one of the locations, we stopped for a short chocolate/coffee tour, where we also saw 2 toucans!

Finally, we stopped for a scrumptious cassado lunch.

Summary: one of the best ways to see all the main walking attractions in Arenal without worrying about transport or food. Highly recommend a guided tour to actually spot the wildlife, otherwise will be very difficult.

Hard to pick what was the best - the whole experience was fantastic! However, the hanging bridges tour was the most unexpected delight! Our guide Erika was wonderful: enthusiastic, super knowledgeable, and funny! She was amazing for spotting very hard to see animals and made it possible to get close-up pics through the scope she carried everywhere.
As a solo traveller, I felt very comfortable and welcomed. I recommend having a good breakfast beforehand and bringing a few snacks - you’ll definitely get your steps in for the day, and then some! 10/10

This was our first activity in our week long trip to Costa Rica and it was one of our favorites! We were picked up on time and the van was kept really clean and the ride was nice. Fabricio, our tour guide, was amazing! He taught us so much about Costa Rican culture and the environment! We learned more on this experience than most of our other tours. He taught about the history of the volcano and the rainforest and the animals that we could see.

I would recommend bringing a raincoat because the beginning of the tour you start with the volcano hike which starts off in the rainforest. It did rain in the beginning and eventually we didn't need the coats anymore, but it was useful to have just in case it does rain which is not uncommon. The rainforest hike is not bad at all. You get to see a lot of animals and insects. Then we make it to the volcano hike, but it was very cloudy on the day that we went so we weren't really able to see the volcano because of it. The volcano hike can be tough, but manageable. Fabricio did let us stop to catch our breath and taught us more about the volcano while we were waiting to continue the hike.

Then we got back into the van and drove to the waterfall. I would recommend water shoes for this part. You are able to get into the waterfall, but the rocks in the water can be a little rough on the feet. The waterfall is beautiful and you able to take lots of pictures. You have plenty of time to enjoy the waterfall as well. There are 500 steps down to the waterfall and you have to walk back up to get back to the van. So I would make sure to bring the water they provide you because you will need it on the hike back up.

Then we were to a local soda (restaurant) for a typical costa rican lunch! It was one of the best lunches we had the whole week! You also get to learn about how they make coffee as well. Overall, wonderful lunch and the weather started to get better so we were able to see the volcano more in the distance.

After lunch, we went to the hanging bridges. Fabricio told us how many bridges there were and how tall each of them are. He showed us different animals there as well. You can see another waterfall and the volcano from a different viewpoint as well from the bridges. We were able to a viper and howler monkeys while we were there!

I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and hopefully you'll be lucky enough to have Fabricio as your tour guide!
