About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jasmine21230 contributionsAmazing! We did the horseback riding tour to the waterfall with our tour guide Danny, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience! Danny was the kindest, sweetest guide! He was so professional and so fun to do the tour with. I got to hike down to the waterfall halfway through the ride and it was an amazing to witness such beauty. I would absolutely recommend this tour! And Danny!Written January 14, 2025
- Manuel S0 contributionsAttentione!I wanted to book a tour for the following day and contacted the tour provider via WhatsApp. I did this to check if a tour was available on short notice. The provider asked how many people would be joining, and I responded that we were two people. He then mentioned that a tour was possible for the two of us and asked which hotel we were staying at. I asked about the cost per person and provided the hotel name. He replied that the tour would cost $97 per person. However, I found the same tour on Tripadvisor for €77, which is approximately $80. I asked him why the tour was cheaper on Tripadvisor, and he mentioned something about taxes and last year’s prices. I then asked if I could book the tour for the next day through Tripadvisor since it was cheaper, and he said yes. So, I booked the tour on Tripadvisor for €77 with included taxes, and the booking was confirmed in the app. Shortly after, the tour provider messaged me on WhatsApp, saying that the tour for the next day was no longer available and had been filled with other people. This makes me feel that if we had booked the tour via WhatsApp for $97, we would have been able to go on the tour. However, because we booked through Tripadvisor at the lower price, the confirmed tour was canceled by the provider. I find this behavior absolutely outrageous and completely unacceptable. This tour provider is dishonest and untrustworthy. I strongly advise against using their services under any circumstances.Written January 7, 2025
- nedb780 contributionsGo blue! Rio CelesteDiego was an exceptional guide! He was very informative, a good listener and accommodated the pace of the mixed ability group. The driver was also a professional at navigating the sometimes narrow, mountainous, steep roads. I felt safe. La Fortuna was quite rainy but we were fortunate to get some sunshine and Rio Celeste was blue!Written December 25, 2024
- chicanainternational0 contributionsAmazing Tour of the Hanging BridgesI had a great tour on Saturday. I chose to go in the afternoon because there’s typically way less tourist traffic at that time. You won’t get to see as much wildlife as you do in the morning but it’s a fair trade off if you want a more intimate experience with the rainforest and hanging bridges. It was only me and another solo female traveler so it was almost a private tour. The tour guide took his time and was very knowledgeable of the forest and wildlife. He even spotted a couple of eyelash vipers, birds, peccary boars, and monkeys. We got lucky! He took awesome photos with a much better high definition camera and shared them us in the end. He was very down to earth and accommodating. I highly recommend this tour!Written December 23, 2024
- Erin V0 contributionsMarvelous Mendez FamilyWe had a fantastic time getting to know the Mendez family and the dinner was phenomenal! Traditional wood-fire casado. Delicious. The gardens are gorgeous and would have also loved to see them during the day. Would do this tour again!Written December 13, 2024
- 768clays0 contributionsGreat experienceWe had a wonderful time! Had our own private tour with me and my wife. My wife had never done caving before, and she loved it. The tour was about 1.5-2 hrs, transportation provided was seamless, and the experience was great. You are walking through a river up to about your ankles or shins for the majority. There were some tight spaces but most were voluntary, and it made it more thrilling. We had a great time.Written December 10, 2024
- hunter11940 contributionsBreathtaking waterfallAbsolutely beautiful waterfall and well worth the steps it took to go down and back up again! Due to the amount of rain in the area the past few days we weren’t allowed to swim at the waterfall but it was still a breathtaking sight. Thanks Diego for leading our hike and sharing information about the falls. The lunch afterwards was really good as well. Highly recommend this tour!Written December 5, 2024
- hunter11940 contributionsGreat way to spend a morningWe thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the hanging bridges. Our tour guide Diego was friendly and very knowledgeable about the plants and animals on the tour. We were lucky enough to see howler and spider monkeys plus some beautiful birds. It was a wonderful way to spend a morning. Thanks Diego and EcoTerra!Written December 5, 2024
- emilylH5733ZS0 contributionsFun hike we enjoyedEddy was great! Really enjoyable and educational even in the rain. We liked seeing monkeys, snakes, tarantula and we conquered our fear of heights. Not too scary for those who might be nervous.Written November 30, 2024
- 145juliannec0 contributionsAwesome tour, but kind of physically demandingWe loved this tour! The guide was super knowledgeable and was willing to answer all of our many questions. He knew loads about the actual cave, but was also able to answer our questions about the local volcano, hiking in Costa Rica, the wildlife, etc. It was about a 40 minute drive from the start point to the cave, but the guide kept us entertained with lively chatting the whole way. This cave is not like the curated ones that you might encounter in the US and this tour is not for the faint of heart. Because we were such a small group (just myself and my husband), the guides took us on a slightly more strenuous tour than is normally done. They had us crawling through passages that were elbow/thigh deep in water, climbing rock formations in the cave, and squeezing through narrow passages. If you are claustrophobic, afraid of getting dirty (you will be walking through water and bat guano) or afraid of bats, I would not recommend this. If you are open to some adventure, though, this would be a great addition to your trip! This tour was one of the highlights of ours! Definitely bring spare clothes because you will need to shower afterwards at individual bathrooms in the facility near the caves due to the bacteria in the bat guano. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy delicious fresh fruit and cookies. As a whole, an awesome tour and a great way to spend a morning!Written November 20, 2024
- kylegB4793LC0 contributionsGreat experience and great staff! I would choose them every time!We did the following: - Night tour - Hanging bridges (Part of all day tour) - Waterfall (Part of all day tour) - Volcano hike (Part of all day tour) The staff (Jasmin, Daniella, Diego, and Freddy) was amazing. They were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They were very willing to provide the best possible experience for us and we could tell they enjoyed having us and also enjoyed their work. We are very happy that we chose Ecoterra and would recommend them if anyone on this site is unsure of who to go with. Example of their great service: My wife forgot her water bottle on the shuttle after the excursions. They drove it to our resort within 30 minutes of us calling about it. Very impressed!Written November 14, 2024
- injoy29110 contributionsLocal experience! This was a really fun experience! We got to visit a family farm, learn about local flora and fauna, taste the food, and interact with the animals. The family and staff were so nice and welcoming! Diego was a great tour guide.Written November 10, 2024

- Discover1580970 contributionsUnique experienceThis was a very interesting experience and unlike any other we’ve had. Everything was great- from the driver, to the food, to the walking tour. Our guide, Harvin, was like an encyclopedia of all the plants, frogs, lizards and insects we saw. He was skilled at finding them and even helped us take some amazing photos and videos. Definitely worth it.Written November 7, 2024
- sabinem6220 contributionsMaleku-!Worth the visit !!We were 12 women, family & friends. After the hot springs, restaurants and Arenal. We decided to spend a day at the Maleku Village. We got a history lesson on their culture, community values and a chance to purchase their beautiful art pieces. Great time & informative. Negotiate the prices, they do bargain. … a lot of what they have you can buy cheaper in town but we didn’t mind paying extra to support the indigenous villagers.Written November 6, 2024

We can't say enough good things about Ecoterra and our guide, Mainor! We had the combo tour booked (Arenal, waterfall, and hanging bridges) and during the Arenal volcano tour, my mother could not ascend the stairs leading to the lookout point - but Mainor immediately offered to take her back to the van and stay with her as we continued. Mainor's knowledge of Costa Rican ecology and history are encyclopedic, and his enthusiasm and good humor are contagious. If you are considering booking a tour while in La Fortuna, do yourself a favor and GO WITH MAINOR Guzman! He's the best! thank you, Mainor! Feliz Ano!

This is one where a simple rating system breaks down. The high points were very high, and none of it was bad, but Ecoterra probably has better options than this tour. Our guide was fantastic - knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. She even administered well-done first aid when I had a mishap on the rocks at the base of the waterfall. The hanging bridge tour is not to be missed, as we saw a wonderful variety of wildlife. Lunch was great. The only downside to this particular tour is that the waterfall and volcano viewing hike are a little on the ho-hum side; you're probably better off just booking the hanging bridges and using your time elsewhere.
One side note is that we had to delay our trip twice, once due to COVID in 2020 and once due to a death in the family in 2022. Of all the vendors we had to deal with to make those changes, Ecoterra was the most responsive and most professional in handling things.

We had a great day with Ecoterra! Gustavo was our guide and he was great company, really knowledgeable and spotted so many animals we never would have seen. We did the volcano tour first, then the waterfall, then a delicious lunch in a beautiful restaurant and finished with hanging bridges. Highly recommend!!

All in all this was such a well thought out day from beginning to end. We first hiked up the Arenal Volcano Lava Trails and this was lovely despite the not so great weather. Our guide Jasmine was very knowledgeable and friendly. After our hike we were greeted with fresh fruit which was a welcome surprise. We then did the La Fortuna Waterfall and that was also such a beautiful experience - we were given time to swim. The highlight of the trip was definitely the Mistico hanging bridges - this was an AMAZING experience and Jasmine was great at spotting animals we would have never seen without her. My last stop was the Baldi Hot Springs hotel and I was given hours to enjoy and relax. The tour included lunch and dinner (dinner was a suprise) and I really felt safe and taken care of 100% of the time.

We had great weather and a fun tour guide. The trail is easy enough to do in sneakers, if that is all you packed. The trail could be muddy if it had been raining, but was in prime condition when we went. We didn't read well enough that we would be able to soak in the Ecotermales (hot springs). Towels are provided, but bring your suit! half of our party was prepared, the other half just soaked their feet.

The organization was perfect, no downtime but moments to rest sufficiently between activities, beautiful explanations and clear instructions. Friendly, funny and caring guides who were a real gold mine of information. We loved our day: Arenal Volcano, waterfall, dinner, suspension bridges, Baldi spa and dinner. Just positive!!!

We did the combination tour: arenal hiking in the morning, then la Fortuna waterfalls and in the afternoon the hanging bridges. It was great because they took care of everything: a shuttle came to pick us up, we had a guide and a driver who took us to the hike. We were given water and walking sticks. There we spent about 1,5h hiking at the bottom of the volcano. Unfortunately it was a little foggy, so we couldn’t see much of the volcano, but it was still a great hike and our guide (Dani) showed us many plants and explained all about the history of volcanoes etc. Afterwards we did a quick walk to the parking lot and saw a few animals on the way. There cookies and fresh fruit were already prepared for us. Next stop was the waterfall, which was a nice excursion. After that we were taken to a restaurant for a nice lunch and then dropped off at the hotel for an hour. Then another shuttle and guide (Rosa) picked us up and took us to the hanging bridges: amazing ! We had very little time in arenal, so the combination tour was perfect because everything from tickets/lines/driving was organized for us. Definitely worth the money.

This all day excursion is an absolute must if you are in La Fortuna for a short period of time. Our tour guide Alberto was fantastic - friendly and extremely knowledgeable especially regarding wildlife. Before we even left hotel grounds, Alberto spotted a group of toucans. We pulled over, and he set up the spotting scope so we could see them up close. He even took photos with our phone through the scope. He always took the time throughout the tour to offer to take photos of our family at the perfect place to capture the beauty of the landscape. Not even a few more miles down the road we stopped to watch 3 sloths. One was climbing a tree. We were told that this isn’t common, so we were very happy to have experienced it. The hike to the volcano was comfortable for people of all ages. The waterfall was beautiful, but the hike back up was quite a workout. The hanging bridge tour was awesome. We saw 3 viper snakes, 2 were so close that we could touch them. We learned to look before you step and watch where you put your hands. We also saw birds, bats, lizards, a beehive, a frog, a tarantula and amazing trees. Alberto knew each species and told us all about them. The views from the bridges were beautiful. Lunch and dinner were delicious as were the fresh fruits provided by the tour guides. They always had water on hand and walking sticks were offered during the hike. Ending the day at Baldi hot springs was just what we needed. The kids had a blast on the water slides. I would highly recommend this all day tour if you want to see all that there is to see in La Fortuna in one day.

My husband and I did the full-day combination tour which included the park hike, La Fortuna Waterfall, lunch, Hanging Bridges tour, Tabacon Hot Springs, and dinner. If it sounds like a lot in one day, it is, but was so worth it. Our guide was Rosa and she couldn't have been better suited for her task. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the land, the wildlife, and her culture made her the perfect companion for the day. With so many activities and so much transportation to coordinate, I was very impressed with Ecoterra's efficiency. After a full day of walking and climbing, Tabacon Hot Springs were the perfect way to soothe our muscles. Our tour group was small (never more than 8 people at any one time) and we felt that Rosa was personally addressing each of us. Thank you Rosa and Ecoterra for an incredible (although exhausting) day.
