- Andrew M003:1 Arenal Bridges, waterfall and volcano hikeThe hanging bridges and waterfall tour was fantastic. Our guide (Jason) was particularly passionate and knowledgeable about the Forrest, animals, birds and fauna we saw. His enthusiasm made the events memorable and special. The whole day was set at a manageable pace and his 'eagle' eyes and scope enabled us to view and learn about things we would have easily passed if we had gone alone. Jason was well supported by Hyme our driver who steered us through some testing weather conditions which unfortunately cut our tour short (but we were offered a timely refund or rebooking the next day). We would thoroughly recommend this to one and all as the group was small and the 500 steps to the waterfall were gentle and easy to handle and definitely worth the effort to get there. We were taken for a traditional meal which was spectacular.
- Rachael C00Great day floating, swimming and hikingWe absolutely LOVED this tour. Thanks to Oscar and Johan for making it such a brilliant day. We really enjoyed every activity but the river float was both fascinating and one of the most relaxing ways to spend a morning. Highlights included watching a heron eat a massive snake up close and two types of monkeys swinging through trees. Oscar really took his time to make sure we got the most out of the tour and found so much wildlife that we would have missed. Then onto a farm where we had the most delicious cheese, plantains, breads and fresh juice, a meal I would have never chosen myself but was one of my most favourite things I ate all week. The waterfall hike and swim was so much fun with incredible views and refreshing water and it’s ONLY 500 steps to come back up again…. Then more delicious food at the company’s restaurant (can you tell I loved the food?!) A traditional CR Cansado. Finally onto a hike up the bottom section of the volcano for excellent views. We really lucked out as it was a clear day so we could see the whole of the majestic Arenal, before being dropped off tired but elevated at our hotel. Thanks to all at Rainforest Excursions for providing a true highlight of our trip and again, special thanks to Oscar and Johan.
- Relax72288700Exceeded my expectationsIt was a pleasant experience. The guide, Francisco, was very supportive, showing us some animals, taking pictures and explaining us about Costa Rica in general. The lunch was a traditional 'casado', very delicious. Eventhough I couldn't see vulcan Arenal as a whole, because it was too cloudy, the tour overcame my expectations. Highly recommended for those who stay at La Fortuna.
- Scenic3706510514600Arenal volcano, hanging bridges, waterfallAbsolutely wonderful experience. Fabricio and Jaime were amazing! The hanging bridges had breathtaking views. The waterfall hike will take your breath away, literally. The food was authentic l and absolutely delicious. They saved the best for last, which was the Arenal volcano hike. I highly recommend this activity.
- Tahobie00Great early morning bird watching tour. Exceeded expectationsWe went on a bird watching tour with Tony. It was awesome. We saw a great variety of birds. Too many to mention but we did see toucans, parrots , herons macaws and we saw sloths. Then a fantastic breakfast at the rancho. This is a family run business and they are truly the best.
- Navigator2157000Girl’s getawayWe did 2 excursions with them and they were both absolutely wonderful. Our guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to be around. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They go above and beyond and really made a difference in our trip. Mario and Jason- thanks for helping us make some great memories- you guys were great!!
- JOE B00Best time everWe had an amazing time. Our tour guide Mario was amazing. He was friendly, punctual and was able to provide so much history. We would absolutely recommend this excursion as it was the best we have been on. The hanging bridges was our favorite.
- lilggngtrvl00Best Tour in all of Costa Rica!!We loved this tour!! Francisco was a great tour guide. He was very personable, engaging and knowledgeable. We learned so much about volcanos, and nature. He even managed to get us an incredible picture of a sloth. (Unfortunately there are no sloths at the volcano but the driver Johan saw the sloth when picking up some passengers at their hotel and when we returned to drop them off the sloth was still there. The guys set up the telescope and allowed us to take a look and even took pictures for us. At the end of the tour we were greeted with a delicious and beautifully plated pineapple and watermelon snack. Best pineapple I’ve ever had. The views were incredible, they provided us with walking sticks making the hike more manageable and the knowledgeable tour guide made this our favourite in all of Costa Rica!! Highly recommend this tour and if you can request Francisco all the better! I almost forgot - the hot springs were also amazing! The place is beautiful, and they had the best cocktails. We would definitely return to the hot springs too! So gorgeous!!
- 12danam00Best tour company!!Over the past 2 days we had private tours and hiked Arenal volcano and also went on Hanging Bridges tour and the La Fortuna waterfall tour. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our tour guides Tony and Mario. They were absolutely wonderful!!! They took the time to explain the history of the volcano and showed us so many animals, birds, monkeys, sloths that we would have missed had their sharp eyes not found them. They both had fantastic telescopes and showed all the details and could photograph the images also. Today we were able to visit Mario’s family farm where he and his family were so gracious and made us the most authentic Costa Rican meal. It was delicious. And the charcuterie board that was prepared after our volcano tour yesterday was phenomenal. We would absolutely recommend all of these tours and tour guides. They went above and beyond what is expected. They patiently waited while we shopped for gifts and we got to meet their family and see their personal farm where they grew the vegetables we ate for lunch. Hands down the best tour!
- Janice P00Wonderful excursionThank you Juan Carlos for making this a memorable experience for our adult family of six! Juan was very educated and we never imagined we would learn and see so much on this excursion. Monkeys, snakes, iguanas, birds, sloth, insects and so much more! Would highly recommend!
- K5561XWdanielz00Nice Way to Spend a Day: Several AttractionsGreat way to see multiple local attractions. Our family of four was with a trustworthy, welcoming and well-informed guide. Breathtaking views all day.
- 416trishd00Family owned and operated fabulousness in the rainforestThe entire team at Rainforest Explorers is top notch. We had a lovely hanging bridges hike with Francisco. He is so knowledgeable about the rainforest flora and fauna. It was pouring rain and we'd do it all over again. Not only was he a safe driver, but we also LOVE Edgar's easy hearty laugh. At the farm, it's evident that the brilliant women rule the roost. Grateful for the opportunity to support a woman owned business while enjoying an incredible day in La Fortuna capped of by a riverside picnic.
- Nvita200Jason is the bestOur tour guide Jason was amazing he really made our trip so far ! He gave us recommendations that were amazing and his knowledge on the tour was incredible and he spoke amazing English
- lornaw76500A Pura Vida Kind of Day!What a fun time we had… hiking, walking on suspension bridges and relaxing in a thermal spring. Norlan and Hans were both informative guides and the guests were fun, too! Would definitely recommend! 🤩
- Beaniesocksdog00An amazing dayThis was an incredible day with two of the nicest guides you could wish for, Oscar and Edgar. Five of us went, including three teens, and everyone had a great time. The river safari was brilliant, around two hours of peaceful floating seeing moneys (including a troop of white faced monkeys crossing the river in the trees) lizards, birds and more. Then a break at a lovely house for a snack and drink. Then the waterfall at fortuna. Yes it’s 500 steps down and then up, but well worth it for a dip in the cool water beneath the fall. Then an amazing lunch, and an impromptu tour of Edgar’s garden/farm next door before the hike up/around the volcano. Incredibly well organised and Oscar knew so much about the area and animals, fascinating. It’s a really worthwhile investment in an incredible day out, particularly if you don’t have much time in Arenal so don’t have time to see all the places yourself. It was the highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Fabulous.

We spent two amazing days with Carlos, on the first day we did the river safari float and La Fortuna waterfall, it was tiring but a never to be forgotten experience. We also had lunch at the family ranch and were made to feel so welcomed by the family and staff. We spent quite a bit of time at lunch and did not feel rushed in any way, the food was also traditional and was fantastic.
Our first day was so enjoyable that we decided to another trip for the following day where we went to the hanging bridges, and again this was an incredible experience made even better by Carlos spotting all sorts of different animals. The trip was rounded off by a relaxing sit down to eat a fresh pineapple.
Also we cannot forget to mention Edgar who was our driver on the first day who was hilarious and extremely friendly.

Absolutely the best. The guides Fabricio and Johan where so helpful and wonderful. We had a 3 yearold on the float trip with another family they got wind of the fact that today was the 3 yearolds birthday and at the end of the float portion had a banana cake and candle for her. The food at the farm in between the two trips was great fresh cheese and cakes, fesh squeezed juices. At the waterfall which has 500 steps down and back up they waited for our swim and watched the valueables. The information and stories they tell along the way are great. The lunch after everything was at a small ranch/farm it was the best food with homemade ice cream What a wonderful day. Really anyone can do the float trip portion The waterfalls can be seen above if you dont want to walk down. Fabricio and Johan really made the trip special

Absolutely wonderful day! Mario and Carlos pointed out animals nearly as soon as i got in the van. The float was serene, saw lots of animals! The snack in between was great and the property it was on is beautiful. The trip to the waterfall was gorgeous. Those stairs are no joke going back up. If you aren’t in the best of shape (like me) take your time. Carlos was super patient w/me. The lunch at the ranch was amazing. Their property is absolutely stunning and peaceful. The food was delicious and the family were warm and welcoming.
100% book this trip. They were nice enough to do the trip with just me. It’s hard as a solo traveler sometimes to find places that don’t require two people let alone don’t cancel if nobody else signs up. They were also kind enough to let me park at their house since I had my luggage in my car as I was headed to monteverde afterwards. Eliana was very helpful making those arrangements and even joined us for the float on her day off.

We did the 4-in-1 tour with the safari float and Tabacón Hot Springs, and it was by far the best tour my friend and I have been on. Hansel was an absolute delight who was so knowledgeable, fun and personable. Edguardo was lovely and very friendly. The lunch was so delicious, thank you ladies for your wonderful cooking and the watermelon juice was delicious. This tour was absolutely sensational and would recommend to anyone who wants to pack as much into their day as possible. Thank you guys. Simone and Peta

Tony and Mainor were our guides for one of our favorite Costa Rica adventures. We did the 2-in-1 river safari and La Fortuna waterfall with our 6 and 2-year-old children. They were patient and warm, incredibly knowledgeable and overall fun people to spend a day with. I had some nerves going into this with the two little ones, but Tony made it easy and let us move at our own pace (which is often dictated by toddler legs and potty schedules). And the meals! The snack between the two was fabulous, but the meal we had at the end of our adventure really was one of our favorite parts of our whole trip. The food was fresh and delicious, the location was so beautiful and the women who prepared our meal were simply lovely. We couldn't possibly recommend the whole experience enough -- it was a highlight for sure!

The raft safari starts after a short drive from the hotel, unfortunately ours started with a bang as our raft exploded when they tried to pump it up and we had to wait for another raft to be brought out to the start point. The guide was a nice friendly lad who obviously enjoyed his work. A lovely relaxing float down the river with lots of birds, reptiles and a few mammals to spot amongst the trees and rocks. We "saw" a furry anteater up in a tree (you wouldn't know it with the naked eye) which the guide said was only the second one he'd seen in 15 years guiding. Even the short rainfall didn't distract from the relaxation. After the safari finished, we had a snack and then on to the famous waterfall (back towards town).
The entrance is imposing and you are warned about the 500 odd steps you need to walk down to get to the base, you even have to sign a health disclaimer! Just inside the entrance there is a viewing platform where you can see the water emerge from the jungle cliff on the opposite side and drop down into the pool you are about to walk down to.
What goes down must come up so after making your way all the way down to the lower viewing area (where we were advised against going in the pool due to the sharp rocks) you realise what a waste of time that decent was and also realise you've now got to walk all the way back up. I wasn't going to be put off so braved the sharp rocks (he wasn't kidding) to slip into the very chilly water of the pool for a few moments before setting off back up the steps. It's a lot of steps!!
In reflection, unless you can't live without a bit of water spray on your skin, or love walking barefoot over jagged, slippery rocks why would anyone bother to climb all the way down and even weirder, back up again to see a waterfall from ground level when there is a perfectly adequate view from the top?
I'd do the river safari everyday of the week but not the waterfall, if it was the Victoria or Angel falls, maybe, but this isn't even a small wow let alone amazing.

Dear traveller,
Greetings from Rainforest Explorers, we thank you for all the explanation about your tour. We are glad to know you enjoyed the Safari float, is sad you were not aware of the trail to the waterfall. Fortunately it is a matter of likes and dislikes and other travellers have found the waterfall amazing, but I certainly agree with you that you must have some physical condition to make it.
If you know of somebody travelling to Costa Rica that will enjoy an experience with us we thank you in advance for recommending us.

This trip was amazing and well worth! We started out early. Our guide, Carlos immediately found us two species of Toucans and an elusive sloth on the roadside before we even got to La Fortuna Waterfall. The waterfall is breathtaking. The tour company prepared us well. Remember to bring water shoes and go early before the crowds arrive! We swam with some fish there too. Next we were off to the river for rafting. Carlos was so well versed in all things Costa Rica and he has been a tour guide for years. He even attracted some Howler monkeys for us. Even though it rained it did not hinder our enjoyment of nature. It is the rainforest after all, expect to maybe get wet. The lunch was homemade on a wood stove by a lovely Costa Rican woman. So good!! It Included coffee and ice cream too. Just book this tour - first rate, well educated and kind folks! We were done by early afternoon.
PS Don’t be intimated by the waterfall steps. Take your time, there are rest stops. I had a bad back and managed fine. Pura Vida!
