Overview
Join a guided tour to Arenal Volcano for better chances of spotting wildlife on the way to a scenic vista point overlooking Lake Arenal. This trail takes you right past the volcano’s most recent lava flow and includes an optional thermal hot spring experience at the end of the day. Those without private transportation will additionally benefit from hotel pickup and drop-off from La Fortuna area hotels.

What to Expect
Your tour begins with pickup from your selected hotel in the La Fortuna area. Take a short drive to the active western side of the Arenal Volcano, and then begin your hike.
The Toucan Trail leads through the rain forest and over a solidified lava flow on a moderately challenging ascent that concludes at a vista point over Lake Arenal. Afternoon departures even have the chance to see lava rolling down the side of the volcano.
During the hike, your guide provides insight into the area’s history and helps you spot local plants and animals you might miss on your own.
Finally, conclude your tour with an optional stop at a mineral hot spring (not included) before getting dropped off at your hotel.
