Amazing experience and customer service!
Mar 2019 • Couples
We had the best experience with Ecoterra, from the transportation, to the beautiful hotels, and the one time we had an issue, it was handled quickly and efficiently by our Jordy. We would definitely use them again if we return to Costa Rica!

Great walk with knowledgeable guide, disappointed by hot springs
Mar 2019 • Couples
Our afternoon started with a short drive to the volcano interrupted by our guide spotting Toucans and Sloths in the trees and stopping to allow us to see them. The walk was interesting with one steep climb but mostly easily manageable. Our guide told us about the history of the area, about the living fences, flora and fauna before going back to the bus for pineapple and melon. I think we were unlucky with our visit to the Paradise hot springs. We arrived at 1730hrs to be told that there were no lockers available so we had to drag our clothes around with us, keeping an eye on them instead of relaxing in the pools. We were told that we could not eat between 1900hrs and 2000hrs due to a large group that had booked and our pick up was at 2100hrs which turned out to be American High School kids. So we had a disjointed visit, didn't relax as much as we could and the buffet dinner was uninspiring. The pools and facilities are there to be enjoyed, it was just unfortunate that when we went it was very busy.

Hike without hot springs
We did the evening hike. It was Very nice hike, guides provide hiking sticks and water bottles if needed and snack at the end of hike. It’s about 2 hours, very scenic very beautiful. Not too hard of a hike. Guide was very informative friendly and even pointed out some wild life. The history of the volcano is very interesting, she showed us pictures from the eruption. I would recommend Bringing a jacket it’s a little colder and windy up in the mountains. We did not spend the money to do the hot springs because our hotel already included natural hot springs.

Ecoterra won't disappoint!
Dec 2018 • Couples
We did 2 tours with Ecoterra - the 4 in 1 combination day and kayaking in Arenal lake. Both were wonderful but my boyfriend and I loved the 4 in 1 combo day. Ecoterra was prompt, organized, informative and super friendly. Julio was our guide for the day, on the hiking portion of the day he paced the hike well, stopped to point out animals and tell us about what we were seeing and was patient when we wanted to stop and take pictures. His english was great as well! We ended the day at The Springs hot springs - very relaxing and felt indulgent! Highly recommend this tour if you're looking to make the most of your time in La Fortuna and hit a lot of sights. You can't go wrong with Ecoterra thats for sure!

Toucan!
Dec 2018 • Couples
This is a great tour. The guides are very knowledgeable about the area and the surrounding wildlife. The started the tour by offering water and walking sticks to everyone. It is a good idea to accept the walking stick. Trust me. Our group split into two because there were a lot of us on the tour. Our guide was great! He did double the work with our group because every question and every bit of information was given both in English and in Spanish. We spotted Toucans and a couple of hawks. It was a cloudy day to we could not see the peak of the volcano but honestly it didn't matter. Everything looked stunning with the low clouds rolling through the hills. At the end of the walk the guides cut up pineapple and watermelon (the also had cookies) and we all had a tasty snack. The second portion involves the hot springs. We didn't know about this option at the time of booking but I'm willing to bet it was well worth it too.

Interesting and informative walk
This was a very interesting walk! Our guide, Albert, was very knowledgeable and pointed out plenty of plants and animals we never would have spotted ourselves. He was also very considerate to the needs of our group, giving people a chance to translate as necessary. The volcano bit was somewhat anticlimactic, but that’s definitely not the guides fault. They were efficient without being rushed and even had cookies and fruit for us after the walk. Would recommend to anyone interested in the nature or history of this area!

Fantastic tour!!!
I purchased the tour through my hotel, and I’m glad I did!! Traveling solo I felt very comfortable and absolutely loved this particular tour
My guide Berny was extremely knowledgeable about the volcano history and geology, as well as the flora and fauna of the National park.
He had an amazing eye at spotting animals and insects, birds and butterflies and took great pictures for the group throughout the tour (we stopped several times along the way to see monkeys and perezosos and even a toucan!
Our guide will then pull out the telescope and take pictures thru the lens
The volcano views were breathtaking and a great place to take pictures. Highly recommended this trip

BEWARE OF TIMING
Apr 2018 • Friends
We booked a trip via Groupon for April. We were encouraged to upgrade to Tabacon Natural Springs which is extraordinarily beautiful so of course we upgraded.

While we did this, timing of the day was not discussed by the agent, Karen Vargas. She sent us multiple itineraries and vouchers with military times but did not mentioned it when selling us on the upgrade. I am upset over it because the hike itself is very short but it does not account for who is hiking so it can go for longer. The sun in Costa Rica sets very early and quite abruptly in comparison to sunsets in the states. The sunsets at 5:30 pm and it gets pitch black within 15-30 minutes.

So we ended up finishing the hike and everyone just waited around for god knows what. It seemed to me the guides were just hanging out. We end up at Tabacon with only 30 minutes of sun left to enjoy the springs. I saw this VERY intensely as the springs were very lowly lit which made it incredibly hard to navigate. The springs had lots of rocks in them so if you were not wearing water shoes, your feet were going to be sore and even if you did, you can't account for the larger boulders you randomly walk right into. Don't get me wrong, the springs are breathtaking but the need for water shoes and going in the early day so you avoid unwanted meetings with rocks is something you should be warned about.

Very unhappy with an experienced I upgraded to, I emailed Karen. She did not respond so I sought her out at her Casa Luna "office." Front desk attendant told me she'd be there after 8am. I wait around and nothing. He says she'll be back by the time I come back from my activity. I come back and he tells me she is not coming in but can connect me to an operator. I speak to Michael and reiterate that it was upsetting not being able to enjoy the springs in daylight. He gave me a run around about how it is clearly stated as a night time activity in the voucher. I state that we received the voucher AFTER being sold on the upgrade. Again, says we should have noticed on the voucher. The voucher says no such thing about it being a night time activity. It just has the time. So I explain there was no way for us, tourists, to know that the time there would mean it would be so dark so quickly. Again, gives me the run around. Goes as far as to say this is the first time someone has ever complained about it. Karen emails not me, but my travel buddy back, with the exact same response.

There was no apology or even pretend empathy for the miscommunication or dissatisfaction. I couldn't help but feel cheated on the upgrade and would not have done it had I known it would be a night activity. I could have gone to the regular springs that had lights in the water and I could have avoided many bruises.
