We did this the first night after we flew into Costa Rica, and it was the perfect way to start the trip!! The food was great the tour guides were excellent and the walk and host family went out of their way to make this the best first night here. I totally recommend this on your first day or a day you want to relax, the walk is not strenuous and the casual atmosphere just sets the mood. Totally recommend this to everyone of all ages.

I am so glad we did this, truly a highlight of our trip. Gustavo, our guide, was so extremely knowledgeable and was able to spot all sorts of nocturnal wildlife for us. We were so exited to see the red eye tree frogs and poison dart frogs (aka blue jean frogs)! The location was at a private home with stunningly beautiful views and gardens all around. Afterwards, we had a delicious dinner there on the balcony. It was truly unique because it felt so personal! Thank you Gustavo for providing such a special memory and all the great photos!!
Take care,

Francisco was great guide - very knowledgeable & funny and showed us so many animals we hadn't yet seen in Costa Rica. We saw about 6 different kinds of frogs, a lot of interesting insects, and even an armadillo!
This was all an amazing adventure on the property of the Mendez bed & breakfast & were provided a delicious Pollo casado afterward.
I highly recommend this tour!

Our tour Guide, Gabriel, was fantastic!!!! We first met him on this night tour. We were a party of 7, including 2 kids (11 and 8), an all of us were so excited and intrigued by this tour. The owners of the farm were so hospitable and friendly as well.

The next day we had an all day tour: Volcano tour, Waterfall and Hanging Bridges. Gabriel was once again our guide and again he was great! Very knowledgeable, and sincerely loves sharing Costa Rica with tourists.

It was the perfect evening. When the sun sets, the jungle becomes alive! Fascinating. The guide would point out creatures that we would have never seen without him. And it was followed by a delicious authentic supper cooked in an outdoor kitchen. Strongly recommend.

When you look at the options for excursions in Costa Rica, this one may not stand out when viewed side-by-side with ziplining, repelling, or whitewater rafting. HOWEVER, it is one of the best things you can do if you want to get up close and personal with some wildlife (frogs in particular)! I have now done this twice. Jason was our guide for both. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and has a trained eye. In both tours, we got to see sloths, toucans, the red-eyed tree frogs, glass frogs, and a lot more (all of Costa Rica's most wanted).

The Costa-Rican dinner provided by the Mendez family was the icing on the cake. I definitely think this is one of the best excursions you can do in region if you want to get close to Costa Rican wildlife!

This was a fun tour conducted by two very knowledgeable guides. We saw many frogs including red eyed and see through ones. We also saw lots of sleeping butterflies and other insects.

The chicken dinner provided was also very good with the exception of the black beans.

One of the only rainy nights we had on our trip and thank goodness! It brought the little critters we'd hoped to see. Our guide was excellent and he took the best photos. We elected to put our own camera away and he shared his with us which was such a treat. The family was so gracious to open their home and serve us a delicious meal. I only wish I could see the beautiful gardens and their view in daylight too!

My husband and I went on the night walk and dinner. We were grouped with a lovely family from the UK and had an absolute blast. The Mendez family home was beautiful, and we felt very welcomed. But my favorite part was probably Gabriel's passion for his work. He was excellent in both finding the various creatures, telling us about them, and conveying his passion for his work and eco tourism in Costa Rica. We enjoyed the dinner as well, and overall had a lovely experience. We saw several amphibians as well, but I would say just the experience of walking around the lovely property at night was well-worth it. For reference, the property is about 40-45 minutes from La Fortuna.

This was not the usual tourist tour to a rain forest at night. We were driven to the private house of the Mendez family. The Mendez family own a large piece of land that they decided to leave undeveloped to keep it as a natural rain forest. They do grow black pepper and offer small bags for purchase. Our tour guide from Ecoterra led us through their grounds looking for frogs, insects and small animals. We saw many frogs, army ants, and an iguana. They do give you head lights but your own flashlights are better.
At the end of our tour, we were served a really nice traditional Costa Rican meal before being taken back to our hotel. A really good tour.
