About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 711tracyl0 contributionsAmazing Cooking ExperienceWe did the this in-home cooking tour with Penny (our tour guide) and loved it!! First we visited a grocery store where locals shop. Saw and sampled some unique foods. From there we went to a lovey gated apartment complex where the cooking class was held at “Shanghai Mama’s” nicely-appointed apartment. We had an incredible first-hand demonstration and hands-on cooking experiences (made dumplings together from scratch) and watched a couple other local cooking techniques. Following that we had a meal together. Hard to match this intimate look at life in the country. I would highly recommend this tour!!Written October 6, 2024
- Gilbert S0 contributionsExcellent Tour Guide for ShanghaiPenny was absolutely wonderful. We walked thru the French Concession area and adjacent neighborhoods and learned alot about the history of China, Shanghai and the current issues facing Chinese living in Shanghai. Penny spoke excellent English and helped us plan other things he to do in Shanghai. She went out of her way to show us how to navigate the subway which turned out to be great way to get around. Overall, Penny deserved a six!!!Written October 2, 2024
- 711tracyl0 contributionsExceptional French Concession TourWe booked a private tour of the French Concession neighborhood and loved it!! Our tour guide Penny was extremely knowledgeable about the history and life in this formerly European neighborhood. We visited historic buildings and also walked through parts of the old neighborhood for additional glimpses of what life was like then and now. We totally enjoyed our day touring with Penny and booked her for two additional tours the following days. I would highly recommend this tour and tour guide!Written October 1, 2024

- 823arnabb0 contributionsA quick yet fruitful stay in Shanghai"I had an amazing experience, all thanks to Cassey. Though only a morning slot was available, which meant an early start, it turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience. She was extremely helpful and flexible, adjusting plans effortlessly to ensure we got the most out of the experience. Her professionalism, combined with a genuine passion for what she does, made the day unforgettable. We asked her so many questions and she handled them with grace, don't miss up on an opportunity to get local knowledge. - lawrencec7970 contributionsOpen Your Eyes and See Old and New ShanghaiMs. Penny met me at my hotel, she helped me craft an agenda, and then we were off on a fantastic, informative, and fun tour of Shanghai. Riding the Metro and walking, I not only saw highlights of Shanghai but learned a lot of very interesting history along the way. Ms. Penny is the definition of a professional guide: knowledgeable, fun, engaging, and she taught me about using Alipay for payments and using taxis in China. I wanted to see an out-of-the-way propaganda poster museum and she not only got me there but she fully explained the nuances of the posters from pre-Maoist times until the present. This was a master class by a true, highly talented professional guide. I absolutely recommend this tour whether you know what you want to see or are looking for tips and suggestions. Ms. Penny is amazing.Written May 17, 2024
- V5677NTalext0 contributionsGreat communication with the company even on Sunday night for next day trip!We had 2 different guides from this company during our brief business trip to Shanghai. I booked my trip less than 24 hours before our arrival, for a tour on Sunday night. Kelly did a phenomenal job communicating and setting up our guides that met us at our hotel and traveled the city with us. The guides were both very personable, sophisticated, and knowledgeable and were able to show us the innermost parts of the city and culture. Money well spent!Written May 13, 2024

Our day with Kelly in Watertown started with the visit to Harmony Garden which is the most beautifully designed private garden I’ve ever seen. The art, architecture and garden “rooms” were really breathtaking. It is not a large garden so there was time to take it all in from various shaded sitting areas - an important aspect of the visit if you’re there in the height of summer. Then Kelly took us down little shopping streets introducing us to new foods (which we would never have tried in our own) and interesting vendors, like the one selling herbal snuff and beautiful snuff boxes. We also stopped at a foot “massage” shop where little fish nibble your feet! After our gondola ride, Kelly took us to lunch and ordered a number of tasty dishes after discussing our preferences with us. When we’d finished exploring this charming water town, Kelly suggested we go to an area near old Shanghai called M50, an art gallery district where current artists work and exhibit. She offered that after hearing of our interest in modern Chinese art. That was such an interesting visit as there are some fine, cutting edge artists working there. Looking back on our day, we were thrilled with what we had seen and experienced and were very appreciative of Kelly’s efforts to design a tour that was not run-of-the-mill. Kelly is very personable and knowledgeable, with great English who listens well and is extremely willing to adapt the tour to suit the interests of her clients. We so enjoyed her guidance that we opted to do another tour with her the next day, again that took us off the beaten track in old Shanghai.

Thank you Pingpingj (Kelly) for the most memorable part of our trip. The tour of the private house, gardens, and antiques away from all the crowds were amazing and relaxing. The boat ride was fantastic. Your knowledge of the area and the food was outstanding, and you helped us find the best quality gifts to buy at the best prices. Anything we wanted, you made it happen including arranging our trip to the airport after our tour. You were professional, organised, and we really enjoyed your company. We give you 5 stars and will be calling you again when we next return to China.

Kelly (aka PingPing) is a fabulous tour guide. She is very personable and has a very relaxed and friendly personality. She speaks excellent English. I loved that she was willing to adjust to our wants and needs and didn't feel compelled to stick to a regimented schedule. She met us at our hotel in a very clean and comfortable miniman. On the ride, we talked about the culture and history of the city. We really enjoyed our water town visit, going in to a traditional local restaurant, and wandering through the lovely town. I feel like she went out of her way with kindness and concern for our comfort and enjoyment. What really cinched it for me was her openness to being available AFTER our tour with ideas and tips by email as we continued our experience in Shanghai. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I was so interested in seeing the local food prepared along the street and tried some delicious ones suggested by my guide. The boat ride offered me another angle to view the whole area surronded by cannels. The garden I visited was so enchanting and exquisite, more attractive than the garden I saw in Shanghai when with antique furnitures installed.
the guide Kelly is knowledgeable and attentive.

We booked this trip after two other fantastic experiences with our tour guide Penny.
It was an incredible trip to see the old Shanghai way of life and it couldn’t have been more interesting and cool to see.
Our guide Penny shared a lot of historical parts to the town and led us through a former house turned museum as well as showing us around the streets with shops, restaurants,
We loved Penny. She was super knowledgeable and also fun to hang out with. She shared so much about old and new Shanghai life.
I would highly recommend this trip.

We met Ping last year and sort her out again this year as we really enjoy her company-she is fun relaxed n spontaneous. V informative about a wide variety of life in China. Great WeChat communication. T Zhujiajiao water village was flooded so no boat ride but Ping made up for this with other activities. We particularly enjoyed t modern/ancient architecture and calligraphy experience she took us to (unplanned). T water village was v commercial n wouldn’t recommend except t private home n garden were worth t visit there. And our lunch was deliciously local n plentiful. We went to t fabric market at t end of t day which was great experience-and to have Ping for bargaining power n quality control was fantastic. Thanks for a special day Ping! Ps. Lovely taxi service n driver. And v lucky with t weather post typhoon Lekima.

I would like to know how many people there are on each tour
Written July 1, 2018
If you book for two people, it is just two people. The price gets cheaper the more people that book together. I went with one other person and it was fantastic. It was personal and we got to do anything we wanted. Even while we were walking along Kelly our guide brought us a beer to drink while we shopped. So much great food included so don't eat breakfast. We also left some items behind at our hotel before coming back to Australia and Kelly went out of her way to get them for us and arrange for a tour guide to bring them to Australia for us. As a bit of a coincidence, I am actually meeting the guide tomorrow morning to pick up our stuff. :)
