Continue to Zhaozhou Road street food bazaar, frequented by Anthony Bourdain, and see the border where French-style apartments give way to old stone “shikumen” houses. Try local dishes at three separate eateries as you learn how locals live and eat. Fun, tasty food tour and perfect for getting to know Shanghai better
What a great way to not only try new foods that I wouldn’t have necessarily found on my own - but also orient myself around Shanghai on my first full day here. Our guide Patrick was super personable, flexible and friendly. He was a wonderful host. The 2 other solo travelers I met on the tour were lovely and it was such a nice way to spend the afternoon. Definitely good value for money and highly recommended all around! Im very happy and very full :)

    Great food tour
Jim was a great host and all the food was outstanding. He asked if we had any dietary restrictions or food allergies so he could choose the best places for our group. We wound up going to about 8 different places, all small and intimate, and none of which a Western hemisphere dweller such as myself who knows just a few words of Mandarin would ever have experienced on my own. Noodles with a bunch of different toppings, four or five different types of dumplings, a tea tasting, fruit stand to try local seasonal fruit, a barbecue (seasoned meat on skewers, not brisket and pulled pork) joint, even a craft beer stand. If you like exploring and eating like a local I highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic unique experience with guide Jade
I cannot recommend this tour enough! It was the best part of our stay in Shanghai, I recommend it to every visitor!! We had the best time with Jade. She guided us through at least six different places with a variety of food and drinks which were all extremely tasty and felt really local. We spent about half the time walking and half the time eating, this was a great division for us as it allowed us to digest the food and see parts of Shanghai most tourists won’t get to see. While walking and eating Jade talked about the history of Shanghai and the cultural areas we were walking through. Thank you for the fantastic experience Jade!!

    Great foodie tour!
This is a GREAT way to sample local Shanghaiese cuisine, in places you probably wouldn’t find as a tourist on your own. Our guide, Lou Ding, was knowlegeable and friendly, sharing not only interesting details about the food we ate and it’s history and background, but also provided a friendly insight into Chines life in general and specifically in Shanghai. Last, but by no means least: The food itself was delicious, allowing us to try a wide variety of different foods in a friendly social setting. I would happily recommend anyone to take this tour, especially if you’re lucky enough to gt Lou Ding as a guide! 😄👍

The title of the Food Tour was an understatement! I saw way more than the French Concession. I was expecting good Shanghai Street Food but what I got was street food that Anthony Bourdain would have captured on camera! A hint of Indian-Shanghai fusion Curry Beef Soup paired with delicious peanut sauce-based noodles, Uyghur BBQ with a cold beer, an incredible introduction to the world of dumplings from Wonton soup'ish delights to fried dumplings prepared while we could watch to Northern Chines steamed pork dumplings that blew my mind. Fresher than fresh. My guide Jim ate as much as I did which made it all the more fun. Better than any skyscraper trip. Thanks Jim. Cheers and see you soon, Manfred

Was top notch experience. The eaterys were very unassuming but the food was A+++. Even better was the host who was extremely well spoken, very knowledgeable to the history of Shanghai. I learnt so much in just a short period. Also the food was more than you can eat!

I spent 3 days in Shanghai, and this food tour was the highlight of my stay. Jade was knowledgeable, funny, and introduced me to delicacies I would have never found on my own. The restaurants were little gems nestled in inconspicuous places. Not only did I taste the best sea urchin dumplings, but I also learned facts about the city's history and its people. I had a great evening!

We had a wonderful night out walking around Shanghai with our guide, Patrick. The food was wonderful and absolutely delightful. Going at night allowed for easier access to tables, etc (avoiding the dinner crowd). Our guide was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun. We even re-visited some of the food places later on during our trip.

This tour is really worthwhile because we sampled some fantastic food and because the guide gave us a lot of on-depth information through his stories about the food. We had some amazing Shanghai specialities, like steamed fried dumplings, steamed smaller dumplings (guotie) with pork and sea urchin, fabulous sizzling lamb skewers, and a lot more. We also sampled some excellent beer, who knew Shanghai had so many good beers? Highly recommend if you fancy a different view of Shanghai and Chinese food culture.

We were a group of 9. Three families including two teenagers. This was the highlight of our 4 days in Shanghai. Jim and Jade were fantastic! We went to hole in wall, really authentic places that locals go to. First stop was a tiny noodle place, then duck, tea tasting, dumplings, bbq on sticks, fruits from a local vendor, many more! We told Jim the group was into craft beers and we were sampling craft beers from a tiny bar with camp chairs on the roadside, very cool. They had a great system whereby Jade would be forward party so when we got to the place we had tables for the group, food was already ordered and drinks were handed to us. Very efficient, great use of time and everything was smooth and hassle free. You really feel you are interacting with locals and the money you spend is going directly to small businesses. Highly recommend!!

Jim's expertise and understanding of the local culture have left a deep impression on me. He passionately and patiently answered all of my questions and shared fascinating stories about the history, culture, and customs. His explanations enriched the entire journey and gave me a deeper appreciation of the place. Moreover, his knowledge of the local cuisine was unparalleled. He introduced me to the most authentic and delicious local dishes and accompanied me in savoring mouthwatering delicacies. Each dish left a lasting impression, allowing me to taste the true essence of the cuisine. His recommendations were absolutely perfect, and I feel fortunate to have had him as my guide.

Fantastic evening walking around some offbeat areas of Shanghai to small resturants and small beer bar that, as a tourist, you probably wouldn't visit. Jimmy the tour guide, a local, spoke great English and kept the whole evening interesting with easy conversation about Shanghai, the local food and China in general. Food and drink is a insight to an areas culture and this was a great sample. Would definitely recommend!

My husband and I signed up for this food tour with a group. Our guide Jim was friendly and knowledgeable. He chose excellent spots and dishes, and shared tons of great insight into the origin of the dishes. He also made special accommodations for my dietary restrictions while still keeping the tour fun. We had a great time eating, chatting and talking about Chinese culture. It was a highlight of our trip to Shanghai!
