Lakshmi really brought them to life with wonderful funny stories. In the afternoon we did a food tour of the bazaar. Lakshmi introducing me to fantastic food opening my eyes to the different favours of South India. We had some wonderful laughs and interacting with the local people and eating places was a high light of the tours. If you only do one tour of Chennai make it with story tellers and if you are lucky enough to have Lakshmi as your guide I can guarantee you will have a great time.Written November 18, 2024
- annbO1590RQ0 contributionsAn excellent tour for lovers of foodWe spend a splendid time in 3 different restaurants sampling the local food and drink. Rain prevented the normal tour from taking place, but Lakshmi arranged this really nice alternative. The stories she told about the food and its origins were very interesting and entertaining. We recommend this tour to all food lovers. Make sure you're hungry before you go!Written October 12, 2024

I had a tour in Chennai and one in Madurai with separate guides and both were briliant. Knowledgeable, interesting and infinitely patient (I asked a LOT of questions) the guides made the tours both fun and informative. I really cannot recommend them highly enough. Lakshmi is an engaging, knowledgeable and highly skilled guide; she imparts her knowledge in a fun and accessible way. We learned so much about the market, it's people and history and the goods on sale without feeling lectured. Stories are a brilliant way of immersing you in a culture, and by the end of the tour we felt we had properly experienced a little bit of India thanks to this delightful guide and excellent itinerary.Written February 3, 2024
- marciaj4210 contributionsEat Your Way thrrough the Sowcarpet MarketMy guide was knowledgeable and engaging. We visited eateries with a long history of operation in Sowcarpet Market and tasted the signature offering of each. My guide had warm relationships with the owners of each place we stopped to enjoy snacks. She also knew many shopkeepers along the way and introduced me to a variety of interesting shops. She was expert at negotiating the heavy pedestrian and wheeled traffic as we made our way from one stop to the next.Written December 27, 2023

We were given the peacock trail tour with Lakshmi. We all had a fantastic time and learned a lot about the temples and history of Mylapore. Lakshmi’s delivery of the information, friendliness and the actual underlying information (I.e. the telling of the stories behind what we saw rather than talking about architecture) made this one of the better walking tours we have been on. Storytrails are only running private tours at the moment but it was worth paying for and we left having learned a lot which really gave us a good grounding for what we have been seeing throughout Tamil Nadu. I highly recommend booking in with storytrails - getting to know Lakshmi and the tour was one of the highlights of our Chennai trip. Storytrails are also operating in Madurai!

The tour was amazing - our guide was the wonderful Lakshmi. Her storytelling really brought to life the complexity of the religion at Kapaleeshwarar Temple. she was friendly, helping us understand what was allowed and not inside the complex. Listening to her storytelling was so much more engaging with the. We loved the TukTuk ride through the crowded and noisy streets to the cathedral and back to the mess for a wonderful dosa breakfast.

Lakshmi is a natural born storyteller - original, honest, generous and brave - and the most beautiful person. The Peacock Trail offers a thoughtfully curated introduction to Hindu religious and social history, traditions and contemporary life that fits perfectly against the backdrop of the magnificent Kapaleeswarar Temple and surrounding Mylapore. Like sitting at the feet of an elder, Lakshmi's delivery is just so effortless that it was only in hindsight that I realised just how much was shared and how much I've gained.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and wished for more time in Chennai to further explore the rest of the Storytrail offering.

Lakshmi was an excellent storyteller who was able to condense Mylapore's rich and long history into bite size pieces. Although I'm a foreigner and my group was comprised of very learned Chennai natives, the tour had something new for all of us. Will definitely be doing another storytrails tour!

The tour was amazing mostly because our guide Lakshmi was brilliant. The story telling style made the information so incredibly interesting, amusing and fascinating. She has to be the best guide we have ever had and we have travelled a lot. Apparently everyone in the company is trained the same way.

I've taken this tour 3 times over the last 5 years during various business trips to Chennai and I loved everyone of them! Lakshmi is a fantastic story teller, delivering an engaging history of the temples and surrounding area of Mylapor. If all of the tours they offer are like this one, you can expect an engaging experience.

I am a regular visitor to Chennai on business and I don't often have time to be a tourist. But when a friend was in town recently we joined this tour and it was just wonderful. Our guide Akila was a passionate, natural storyteller. We came away feeling we had been comprehensively educated not just about the secrets of life in Chennai but also Hindu culture, local politics and Indian customs and traditions. It was a beautiful evening and experiencing the sun setting over the local temples and markets was very special. I loved it so much I've booked for the Bazaar tour next week!
