Enjoy a private and authentic home-cooked meal with your host Yakuta in her home. This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. Food has always been a central part of Yakuta’s life as she has been blessed with an incredible culinary lineage. A Bhori Muslim with ancestral roots that trace back to Yemen, she grew up with her cousins and relatives in a cottage in Agripada, the heart of the Muslim area of Mumbai. At the age of 13 she moved to the suburbs with her Bohri mother and Maharashtrian Hindu father. 13 years later she married a Parsi, so she now her cooking is an eclectic mix of Bohri Muslim, Maharashtrian and Parsi traditions. Her passion and love for food guided her to switch professions and start a catering business called Cold Food Company which specializes in dishes that are best enjoyed cold or at room temperature. Yakuta believes that every meal has a story to tell and she looks forward to sharing hers with guests.

      Immersive experience and delicious food
The private cooking class with Shilpa was incredible. She will not only teach you how to navigate a market or grocery store, but will walk you through making several classic Indian dishes. The food was absolutely delicious -- much better in quality, freshness, and complexity compared to the restaurants we had been going to. I can't wait to try making paratha and that amazing deal at home. Highly recommend this class if you don't want to just look at buildings and get a cultural experience.

      Wonderful Cooking Class in Mumbai
I recently took this cooking class and loved it. I wanted an authentic look at Indian home cooking, and that’s exactly what I got. I had thought Indian cuisine would be challenging, but it was actually very manageable. Shilpa also shared great insights into the culture and little details of home cooking, and it was very fun to discuss the differences to and similarities to my home cuisine. I also enjoyed that the recipes can be tweaked to be vegan friendly! Highly recommend this class!

We didn’t cook but food was tasty
Enjoyed meeting Shilpa, her and her husband were quite friendly. Recipes were simple, healthy, and tasty. For me, this was unfortunately more of a ‘watching’ class than a cooking class. We did not participate in cooking: her cook did the chopping and she did all the sauteeing. The extent of our participation was rolling out roti dough balls prepared by the household cook which was interrupted after the dough got a bit sticky. Additionally, we did not go to an outdoor market but to a neighborhood supermarket for 10 minutes and did not buy anything. If you prefer to actively cook and learn by trial and error as part of your experience, this class may not be for you. In previous cooking classes I’ve been to, each group has their own small cooking station to prepare their own meal as instructed by the teacher. As Shilpa’s recipes were quite tasty and she was receptive to feedback, I’m looking forward to hearing how this class develops in the future.

      Great Class
Very informative and a great class! The recipes I learned have been staples in my house since the class. I got to meet her family and sat with her daughter for a long time talking about recipes and learning new tricks. I would absolutely do another class, her food was really amazing!

      Harvest festival lunch
Mumbai Magic Tour organised a driver to collect us from our hotel. Our dining hosts were delightful and very knowledgeable on nutrition and traditions. As we attended on a Hindu festival day, they prepared special food. It was very relaxed, good conversation and tasteful lunch. Thank you!

      Nice Punjabi cooking class.
The cooking class was very nice. Shilpa and her daughter prepared everything beforehand and explained how to make a few dishes. We were with a group of 15, which makes it hard to give an interactive cooking class so I would not necessarily recommend it for the size. But in general we really enjoyed it!

Explored delicious Parsi cuisine with a great host
Mahrukh welcomed me into her home and taught me about a variety of Parsi dishes. She was a very gracious host, and always made sure I was enjoying myself. First we went to the local market, to see where Mahrukh buys her meat, fish and vegetables. Then we returned and made 3+ Parsi dishes. I even had a go at making a very wonky chapati! Mahrukh and her family were very attentive and it was very interesting to hear about their background and life in Mumbai. Would absolutely recommend!

      Nourishing on so many levels
We very much enjoyed this whole experience with Reyna & Shivalika! I feel so much gratitude for the warmth we felt from everyone, and the passion each of them have for delicious and healthy lifestyles. I highly recommend! We booked the tour of a local market and stopped by a lovely all vegan & organic shop called Rose & Joe, then went back to the host's home for a home-cooking experience with vegetables we were able to pick at the market, and then enjoyed the meal with the family hosting us. We got to find out about stores and markets where we could shop to cook for ourselves while we are here, and they even gave us great recommendations of places to visit in Mumbai / Bombay and around India. Everyone was absolutely charming, shared with us their journey being vegan and recipes, too! We got to learn more about them as we also shared about us, and really felt at home.

      Above and beyond service ..
Mahrouk was a really fantastic host. She was warm, friendly and very welcoming. The dishes she cooked were absolutely delicious, using only the freshest of ingredients. We felt that all the recipes she used were ones that we would be able to recreate at home when we return to Australia. She was very generous not only with the number of dishes she made but also with her time and with her many tips. We really enjoyed visiting her home and would recommend her very highly.

      Authentic Indian cooking experience
Shilpa was so kind to welcome us into her home and give us an authentic Indian cooking experience. She walked us through every recipe, step by step and showed us how to cook the meals properly. Afterwards, she took the time to go through all the written recipes with us and took us to the market to make sure we had all the ingredients and knew what to do/practice when we’re back home. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in learning how to prepare Indian dishes in a healthy, authentic way with a great host
