What to Expect
Meet you host Shalini at her lovely home in Andheri, Mumbai. She will welcome you with a warm smile and serve you a refreshing drink of Moru Vellum (Spiced buttermilk). After a few pleasantries, you can head to the kitchen with Shalini for a cooking class. She will teach you to make a common Kerala chutney, Mullaku Chamanthi, made with shallots, green chillies and coconut oil. The next dsh that you will prepare will be the vegetable stew. Shalini will explain to you the entire process right from cutting of the ingredients to the different types of spices that will be used for the stew. For non-vegetarians, Shalini will teach you to make Kurumulaku Chicken/Seafood Roast. Following this you can head to the dining table to enjoy the complete meal.

Some of the dishes included in the menu are Kappa with Mulaku Chammanthi (Boiled tapioca served with crushed green chilli and shallots), Kurumulaku Chicken/Seafood Roast (Juicy pieces of chicken cooked with lots of crushed pepper/Choice of seafood (as per catch of the day) tossed in homemade Kerala spices), Sambar (Lentils cooked with roasted spices, veggies and tamarind), Vegetable Stew (Stew that was prepared by you in the kitchen), Nadan Mutton curry (Kerala mutton curry prepared in traditional style). These will be accompanied with Appams (Soft and lacy Kerala pancakes made with rice flour and coconut milk), Steamed Rice and different types of Pickles.

For dessert, Shalini will serve you with Semiyan Payasam which is ghee roasted vermicelli; made with milk, sugar and cardamom, garnished with cashews and raisins.

Please note: This is not a professional cooking class. It is an opportunity to learn the tips and tricks of Indian cooking and to dine with a local family!
