The tour was great. Ms. Akansha (our Guide) explained us very welll the history of the caves and the meaning of the sculptures. With the same passion she presented the city. I recommend this tour for those who don't have much time but they want to see the most important sites of the city.

I had an absolutely wonderful day on this tour. The ferry boat to the Elephanta Caves was so relaxing and enjoyable. The Elepanta Caves were beautiful and amazing... What made it particularly fascinating was the wonderful myths behind each of the sculptures that my guide provided. My guide, Subhalakshmi, was excellent and made all the difference with her detailed knowledge and very enjoyable personality. After the caves she took me around the city seeing temples, a stunning garden, and beautiful colonial architecture. She tailored her tour to my interests. I highly recommend this tour and Subha!! Easy booking, kept up to date with arrangements all the way. Naina was a super guide, flexible and informative in all aspects. Very comfortable car and courteous , helpful driver. The visit to Elephanta was magical - brochure and photos seen prior to trip do not do it justice. City tour very comprehensive and eye opening. Whole day gave a marvellous flavour of Mumbai.

Elephanta caves should not be missed. It's 1.5 hour boat ride each way. 25 min walk up the hill. 45 min at the caves. But still worth it. The Guide was very flexible to change the city tour to match our interests. We wanted to go to the outdoor laundry. We were picked up and returned to the airport. We only were on a 10 hour lay over and made it work.

Going to the Elephanta Caves was one our favorite things we did on our trip to India. Our private day tour was a great way to see the city. You can do a lot of souvenir shopping on the island. I highly recommend doing this tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.

Everything from booking the tour to the end went very smoothly and easy.
We were picked up in our holel as arranged. We met our driver and our guide for a day Chetan Somkuwar. We went on boat trip to see Elephanta caves, which was fantastic. And after we went to see some places in Mumbai. We were not specific on what we want to see exaxtly and Chetan did excellent job showing us places, giving us lots of informations about the history, places. And then they drop us off back in our hotel. Over all it was a fantastic day and I would recommend it to anyone. We felt safe, Chetan was very polite, very easy to talk to, full of knowledge, very well organised.

We had an excellent guide for our private day tour - Naina Shah. Our driver and our guide met us at our hotel at 8:30 AM, as arranged. We drove to dock to arrange for the boat trip to Elephanta. The boat trip is about one hour each way. At the island, there is a 2 minute train ride from the dock. The highlight of the island is the solid basaltic cave with carved Shiva depictions. The cave is reached by 120 very long steps. Naina did an excellent job steering us around large groups in the cave and allowing us easy access to the carvings. We spent about 1 1/2 hours on the island.

After our visit to the island, we proceeded to view the university admin buildings (from the outside), the train station, and India's version of the "Big Ben". Then we had an extensive tour of the Gandhi house. The house - where Gandhi stayed off and on - was purchased with donations from his followers. One rupee per person!

Then it was on to the "Hanging Gardens", so called because the park is actually on top of a large city reservoir. Later we drove by the home of one of the owners of Reliance Electric. He spent between one and two BILLION dollars to build his home. 27 stories, five private elevators (one for each occupant), helipad and more.

Last we stopped at the overlook to Dhoby Ghat - the largest laundry in Mumbai.

This was a terrific tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job of communicating historical and contemporary information about the sites visited. A lot was covered in one day, and we got a good sense of what Mumbai is all about. Be aware that the trip to Elephanta requires a 45 minute boat ride each way and a fair amount of walking. Also, be prepared for the Mumbai traffic--worst I have seen and I'm from Los Angeles!!!
