About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Resort674173511490 contributionsAwesome food tour in Old DelhiFood tour was a great experience. Sonali was our guide and she pointed out historical significant buildings while walking and told us everything from history of the food vendor we were visiting, to difference of each food sample between regions and much more. We took the 1pm tour and it was enough food to fill us for lunch and dinner. We would have never found these places in the labyrinth of old Delhi alleys on our own. Highly recommend!!Written January 22, 2025
- AdamB52340 contributionsFood and Tour Filling and DeliciousParul and The Lost Compass are a must when visiting Delhi. It ended up just being myself and Parul on my tour which was a lovely time exploring various foods and areas. The food was delicious and the information rich and filling as well. Highly recommend!Written January 20, 2025
- Alice P0 contributionsMy perfect day in DelhiI didn't know I had a perfect way to spend a day until Sonali took me into Old Delhi foodie heaven. No one else had booked but instead of cancelling (which every other tour operator would have) it was just the 2 of us meandering through the market stalls with all the sights, sounds and smells. Stopping off at the most established family run food stalls. These guys know their craft, their secrets handed down from generation to generation for our delectation. One can't stumble on such a wonderful array of traditional street food without inside knowledge. Sonali was so warm, kind and informative. I truly could not have imagined a more perfect experience. If you want to know the real side of Delhi's food heritage and culture, book a tour, you won't regret it!! Worth every rupee and a day out of your schedule. Am experience I'll never forget. Thank you so much Sonali!!Written January 20, 2025
- 469randyd0 contributionsTerrificSonali, the guide made this a 5 star experience. She was extremely knowledgable about the cuisine, the venues, and food’s place in Indian history and culture. Her choices gor tastings were diverse. Her ability to navigate chaotic Delhi was truly impressive.Written January 17, 2025
- Stallionbarley0 contributionsBrilliant tour - would definitely recommendWas a brilliant tour - have done a few street food tours in different cities and this was definitely up there with our favourites. The food was incredible, our guide Stanley was very knowledgable and passionate, and it was nice to have extra context to the city and history beyond just the food. Definitely recommended.Written January 16, 2025
- Wanderer5529270 contributionsA tour for foodiesIt was the best food tour ever! The different flavors, textures, and ingredients were so perfectly arranged! I loved the mix of history, culture, and visual fest of old Delhi!Written January 16, 2025
- GrandTour578413717060 contributionsDon't have a big breakfast! The vegetarian food tour with Sonali was fantastic. She takes you to some great places you would never find yourself in bewildering Old Delhi. You can eat as much as you like or just taste different foods. A great experience just walking the narrow streets too. Highly recommended.Written January 15, 2025
- fedms0 contributionsAmazing food tour of Old Delhi marketsSonali treated us to a feast of vegetarian delights as we walked round the Old Delhi markets. She was very informative and a pleasure to wander around with. The food was well spaced out with walking in between which was good so we could digest before the next stop. Would definitely recommend.Written January 15, 2025
- aviadpaz0 contributionsRecommended food tourHad amazing day with sonali, Meeting up in Central Place and taking from there the Metro with all the group . The tour is interesting and not too heavy. Normally they do it in a small group . she took us to a lot of amazing streets where we could never visit without the tour in the end of the day we were full of food and happinessWritten January 14, 2025
- hagalaz10800 contributionsSavor the authentic flavors of DelhiThis was one of the best food tours I've ever attended, and I couldn't imagine a better way to immerse myself in India's fascinating and vibrant street culture. Sonali was the champion of this tour. Chandni Chowk can feel overwhelming, but following her lead, I felt safe and free to fully enjoy the energy and charm of this lively area. The street food we sampled was bold, flavorful, and rich with history. Each bite came with a story that added depth to the experience. My personal highlight was the Chai house we visited. That was no doubt the best Masala Chai I had all week, perfectly paired with NanKhatai (delightful shortbread-like cookies). Beyond the food, Sonali was a spectacular storyteller. I came away with a deeper understanding of India and how its food culture has evolved through history. I also appreciate this young startup's commitment to transparency in Delhi's touring market. They don't do commissions, so you won't find yourself being diverted to souvenir shops or unexpected detours. If you love walking among locals, experiencing real life, and savoring the authentic flavors of Delhi, this tour is a must-try!Written January 14, 2025
- F8651TC_0 contributionsWonderful experienceGreat experience, delicious food, learned a lot about the history and the culture of India. Raghu is a very open-minded and friendly guide.Written January 14, 2025
- Navigator034209287660 contributionsFantastic Indian Food TourMy wife and I took the afternoon food tour with Sonali as our The Lost Compass guide. I could not have asked for a better tour with a better guide, she was superb. From the start, meeting her and traveling to Old Delhi she was confident, knowledgable, and compassionate. I felt safe, even in the most chaotic of scenarios (in an Indian tuk-tuk, navigating the Metro, or walking through throngs of market goers and vendors). The experience was fabulous, enriching, and exciting. Sonali has a definitive grasp of Indian food, history, and the market culture. It was clear that the food stops had been curated from the multitude of food vendors, for quality food, history (many were the original, or the oldest still in existence, purveyors of their type of food item), and cultural significance. Sonali took great care in adding to the food stops with notable sites on our route, such as Fatehpuri Masjid and Naughara, Row of Nine Houses. I would not hesitate to book another tour with The Lost Compass, unfortunately I do not have the time on this trip, and hopefully will get to see Sonali again. Saying "Great" Indian Food Tour is underselling it.Written January 14, 2025
- epicureal0 contributionsUnforgettable! What an unforgettable experience! We chose the vegetarian tour and were guided by Sonali. She, being a foodie, is amazingly knowledgeable about the food, the history, and the preparation. While the area is crowded, she led us seamlessly though to each restaurant. Those working in each place know her and she gets tables when none seem to be available. Sonali is a great conversationalist and is easy to understand. She handles difficult situations with ease. The food choices are spot-on with a good balance between sweet and savory. She is conscious of the level of spiciness each person prefers and is not pushy about what you choose to finish or toss. We are so grateful to have been paired with Sonali for this tour. She is the best!Written January 14, 2025
- minnaf20250 contributionsFantastic introduction to Old DelhiThis was an excellent tour. Sonali held so much knowledge and was friendly and easy to talk to. As a solo female traveller on my first day in India, I felt very safe the entire time. The food was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommend this experience.Written January 11, 2025
- Daydream007015287720 contributionsUnique food tourReally enjoyed our food tour with Stanley - he was an excellent storyteller and we got to try many incredible local street snacks with a meal at the end. He also covered a lot of history and areas we wouldn’t visit alone in Old Delhi.Written January 11, 2025

We recently enjoyed an exceptionally engaging tour of the stunning Qutub complex, guided by the wonderfully informed Parul. She demonstrated a profound knowledge across a broad spectrum of subjects pertaining to the history of the site. Her delivery was not only insightful but peppered with anecdotes that were both captivating and, at times, startling. For anyone with a keen interest in architecture and cultural history, this tour comes highly recommended. Parul's expertise truly enhances the experience, making it memorable and enriching.

One of my favorite walking tours ever! My guide Parul was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Delhi and the historical complex of Qutub Minar. She also explained everything in a very enjoyable way and was a fun person to spend time with, making the tour an absolute pleasure. The tour made visiting this complex
- which in itself is fascinating - ten times better. All in all, a definite must for any tourist in Delhi! :)

A tour that only an extremely interested, knowledgeable person can provide. My guide was Ms. Parul, a local who had extensive knowledge about the history of the place and was an amazing storyteller.
The very informative narrative of Qutub Minar Complex started with a brief history of the various clans that ruled in and from Delhi. We then moved to the monuments that dotted the area and Ms. Parul provided a detailed explanation of each structure, their architecture, anomalies (of which there were quite a few!)
I was provided the opportunity to explore the intricacies of some monuments and form my own theories. I heard the various theories about the Qutub Minar and Iron pillar.
Personally, this was the best tour of any historical site I have had so far.
