There were five different sultanates which ruled Delhi from 1191 to 1526 and then the Mughals came in power. Delhi is divided into two parts. Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi was founded by fifth Mughal emperor Shahjahan who made it his capital and named it Shahjahanabad. But New Delhi was founded by the Britishers when they were in rule.
Both cities are completely different. So let your local tour guide show you both cities of Delhi.

Haider was a wonderful and enthusiastic guide - we did indeed skip the line at the Taj Mahal (which was such a relief!) and got a ton of historical facts the moment we entered. Haider ended up even being able to accommodate us with a driver for the day, another tour of Agra Fort and the mini Taj Mahal, a lunch in a beautiful and peaceful outdoor space and then made sure we were safely on our train at the end of it all. Highly highly highly recommend!
